    Notice at 13:26, the whites are completely blown out on the VX1. I thought it was a bug on my WXF1. It has the specs to properly handle that dynamic range, so there's no excuse why it's blowing out the whites, possibly fixable in a future firmware update I guess.

    Panasonic could definitely make a version of the X1500 without the external controls and be much smeller. Too bad that it seams like companies aren’t wanting to make small consumer camcorders anymore. Same situation with super zoom point and shoot cameras. Would definitely be nice to see new consumer cameras that can shoot 10 bit 4K 60p videos.

      X1500 with smaller form factor and a 1 inch sensor that could do 10 bit 4k 60p with the same level of optical zoom as the x1500 would be perfection.

      @jacopoabbruscato9271 Před rokem +1

      It's already quite small, you can easily use it with one hand. One can only go so far in reducing size, they still have to house a zoom lens, the sensor, the internal ND and the computer. The external tactile controls are very useful, fumbling through menus is a pain in the ass in a lot of cameras.

    Does the VX1 have night vision and would you recommend the VX1 or is there anything better in the same price range?

    Why does the CX10 looks darker than VX1 in this comparison? Does X1500 has IR night vision capability? I want night vision and mostly available in camcorder but one CZcamsr say it doesn't have IR light build in and just can only detect it does it still make X1500 a good buy? Camcorder is nice because they have a lot build in, I not sure if this still a good buy since another CZcamsr say it's not really good in manual because of the buttons are hard to press, might better buy an auto camcorder, is it really bad in manual mode?

    Nice explanation, thank you. I was thinking of getting a VX1, but the x1500 is 10 bits and it tempts me. Will there be an entry-level 10-bit model in 2023? By the way, what is the file size of the recordings made with H264 and H265 codecs with the same image quality?

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  Před rokem +1

      There will most likely not be a 10-bit mode on any Panasonic camcorder in 2023. The X1500 is what Panasonic wants you to buy if you want a low cost 10-bit camcorder. If you want 10-bit under $1K, you'll have to buy a used GH5 mirrorless camera.
      The file sizes are selectable on both cameras. The VX1 can go as high as 72Mbps and the X1500 can go as high as 200Mbps.

      @SonicVision Před rokem

  • @stevenrostron6671
    @stevenrostron6671 Před 2 lety

    Are the VX1 and X1500 using the same sensors and lens? Is the extra money for the X1500 for mostly the pro level features and 4K 60p? Out of the box, would the image quality be the same for an amateur using them in good lighting?

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  Před 2 lety +3

      They use the same sized sensor and lens, which doesn't mean they are the exact same, but they could be. The extra money for the X1500 is paying for a more professional body design, full manual control that is quick to access, superior 10-bit codecs, which no camera has at that price range, lots of picture controls, superior audio quality, and extra long battery life.
      An amateur will notice a quality difference between the VX1 and the X1500. These cameras are meant for different markets. If money is a concern for you, get the VX1. If higher picture and audio quality or ease of manual control are important to you, get the X1500.

  • @fasttrax

    Is the VX1 the new version of the 981K model? I was told they use different chips. Is there much quality difference? Can't find the VX1 now, but a few places have the 981K. Would I be better to wait for new stock on the VX1? Any significant differences you've noticed?

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes, I believe the VX1 is the update to the 981k, since the VX1 came out two years after the 981k was released. There are minor upgrades, so the image quality is not a big difference. But the lens is a significant upgrade on the VX1 if you like wide angle shots.

  • @darrenmartin6869
    @darrenmartin6869 Před rokem +1

    I’d love to see more examples outside and different dynamic range situations. I have just bought the vx1 but not super happy with the quality (I’m used to shooting slog3 on 10bit a7siii) I know it’s a massive difference but how well does the hx1500 footage hold up to a pretty dramatic grade

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  Před rokem

      I made another video comparing the footage from a Canon XF400 to a Canon CX10/X2000/X1500: czcams.com/video/-9kC8sN15Hs/video.html
      I wish Panasonic would add V-Log to the CX10/X2000/X1500 in a firmware update. Not being about to use Log is holding back the 422 10-Bit codec. The colors are great, but the dynamic range struggles when you heavily grade it or don't expose properly.

    • @darrenmartin6869
      @darrenmartin6869 Před rokem

      @@VideoGizmology thanks for the reply, yes I totally agree. Log profiles are essential capturing in 10bit. I wonder why they haven’t added it. Is there any other camcorder that shoots in 10bit with log that are small form factor and focal range similar to cx10? I loved my rx10iv for the form factor but the codec is only 8bit even though you can shoot slog3 on it. And the stabilisation is crap! I love the stabilisation on the vx1 which means I actually get the shot. If only Sony came out with a one inch or even 1/2.5 camcorder with af like their new cameras, stellar stabe, 10bit codecs 4k 60p, 240fps in 1080. I would pay good money for that! Why have companies given up on camcorders? I absolutely love the form factor

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  Před rokem

      I'm assuming a 4K 422 10-Bit camcorder with Log for under $2500 is coming, but right now there is nothing capable of that for the price. You can get a mirrorless camera, like a Panasonic GH5, GH6, Sony A7IV, etc. And if you don't mind spending over $3500 for a camcorder, the Panasonic CX350, Panasonic HC-X2, Canon XF605, and JVC HC500U are the next price level up that can shoot 4K 422 10-Bit with Log.

  • @SonicVision
    @SonicVision Před rokem

    Does the 10-Bit of the X1500, without LOG, make it the better cam than Sony AX700 8-Bit with LOG?

    • @VideoGizmology
      @VideoGizmology  Před rokem +1

      Tough to say. If you work event video, like weddings, 10-bit with no LOG is better for a fast turnaround with vibrant colors. But if you're doing narrative, music video, or anything where you need more dynamic range and have the time to color grade, then 8-Bit with LOG could be good, but usually 8-Bit is not enough color information to take full advantage of LOG, so I would rather go 10-Bit with no LOG than 8-bit with LOG. The only exception is Canon. For some reason, Canon has been pretty good with 8-bit LOG footage from their cinema cameras like the C100 Mark II.
