- 223 Remington Hornady Black 75 grain BTHP ammo ballistics gel test fired from a CZ 527 Carbine with 18.5 inch barrel.

All shots are fired from a distance of 100 yards so as to encompass the majority of common real world hunting scenarios.
I will be shooting into 10% ballistics gel from www.clearballistics.com that has been calibrated to meet the FBI ballistics testing protocol.
While ballistics gel isn’t an exact proxy for big game, small game, predators or defensive situations, it does provide a repeatable medium through which to test various bullets and ammunitions against each other.
With each type of ammo tested I collect data on bullet penetration depth, bullet weight retention, bullet expansion and muzzle velocity.
For reference, bullet expansion is measured at the widest expanded point using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Caliper.
Bullet weight is measured using a calibrated Frankford Arsenal Digital Scale after having removed as much ballistics gel as possible from the expanded bullets.
Bullet velocity is measured using a ProChronoPal chronograph set approximately 7-10’ from the shooting bench, depending on the cartridge and muzzle blast.
I am fully aware that a chronograph measuring bullet velocity from 10’ away from the muzzle is going to register a slower velocity than if velocity were measured directly at the muzzle, but that difference is going to be so small as to be all but irrelevant in regards to comparison of actual measured velocity versus factory stated velocity.
My goal with these ballistics gel tests is to provide hunters like you and I with the most objective information possible to help us make the best choice for our particular hunting situation.
The results of these tests are my own and I cannot guarantee the same or similar performance on your part. The views and opinions expressed in this video are solely my own.
All videos are filmed in a safe and controlled environment on a private range with all applicable safety precautions by a trained professional. - Zábava

Thank you for conducting the ballistics testing at realistic ranges. Too many YTubers want to conduct rifle ballistics tests at handgun distances.
Thanks for your support, I’m glad to be of service!
Good to finally see a ballistic gel test at 100 and accompanying velocity information
Hornady 75gr bthp bullets (hand loads) consistently shoot the best groups for me. My AR with a Wilson Arms barrel loves them.
Thanks for your hard work doing these tests.
Glad to be of service and thanks for your support! Please share the video, it’s a big help!
I really like how you set up your videos. Consistent testing and no time wasting banter.
These Hornady bullets fragment pretty well down to about 2200 fps.
I load them at 5.56 pressure levels for about 2750 fps out of my 16” Scout rifle.
Pretty much a MK262 clone load which had quite good results overseas and is used by many police agencies, including our RCMP.
I wouldn’t hesitate to hunt deer with this load out to 200yds. After that I’d be a little worried about falling below the fragmentation threshold and ice picking.
Glad you tested this, shoots very good out of my AR. Nice view of those wound tracts too, keep em coming sir
Glad to be of service!
I’ve had really good results on deer and hogs with this ammo out of a 16” barrel. Doesn’t exit on large hogs, unsurprisingly.
Still waiting on that Winchester 64gr power point test. Love your videos.👍
Nice test, thanks for satisfying my 4am curiosity. Have these and some 53gr vmax sitting in the reloading room ready to roll so glad to see both perform pretty well.
Glad you did this one. I had been curious of that load
That's what she said
The 75 gr interlock round works very well i use it in my 16 inch ar-15
Nasty is quite right. And now folks understand why our boys in the sandboxes, liked the 77gr OTM load. When compared to the 62gr Green Tip ammo they had been using for years.
Thanks for the vid.. if you have a short barrel that would be a super awesome video
Thanks for another great video that would be good. Target ammo. But I would like to see you test some metal jacket federal. Just curious to see what it would do in the gel block. I’ve shot it and it seemed to explode only went about 8 to 10 inchesis a paper wet pack.
Eventually I might
You do a great job but it would be nice to now the twist rate of the barrel especially when It comes to the 223/556
Id like to see a video on some aac sabre blade black tip
Out of my CZ527 LH Lux 1:9" the heavy 75-77 grain bullets keyholed at 100m. But my Tikka T3 Lite LH 1:8" stabilized them perfectly at 100m.
👍 Keep up the great work.
Glad to be of service!
By what I've seen on a lot of channels testing stuff, Hornady bullets often seem to be so prone to fragmenting, ripping open in random ways, shedding lead and jacket material. Not all of Hornady stuff does this but quite a bit of it does. Anyone else notice this?
these are match bullets which have very similar construction to varmint bullets, they aren't meant to hold together
because they chase the B.C they suggest stuff like the ELDX which is basically a glorified ballistic tip projectile sold for a high margin
Makes sense to showcase something with such low drag. You can extend your range, maintain higher terminal velocity, reduce shooter error slightly in varied conditions, etc. etc. etc.
But if it comes at the cost of what happens when the impact actually occurs, how much better is it really?
@@exothermal.sprocket ELD-X are meant for hunting. ELD-M are match bullets. Supposedly the ELD-X are pretty popular with hunters and their terminal ballistics are good
New to your channel….have you mentioned what the twist rate of your .223 rifle is?
1:9
Got two 150 lbs hogs with this ammo it worked well
What is the difference between this and the 75 grain interlock stuff
Completely different bullet
Mason, do you use 10% or 20% gel?
It is stated in the video, 10% per FBI protocol. 20% is NATO protocol specifically for stopping FMJ bullets.
I counted 4 shots this time!
🍇
How far [how many yards] were you from the gel?
100 yards, it is stated in the video and video description.
❤️🔥🤙🏽🇺🇸
What twist rate is your rifle.?
If it was made after 2002, it's 1-9. Prior to that, the 527 came with a 1-12. 🤠
