    Thank you for making these videos. It takes alot of time to make and set up gel blocks and everything else involved. Thank you.
    My daughter likes to shoot but is very recoil sensitive. These vids are a big help in choosing the right ammo for the job. I hope you have some 62gr gold dot and trophy bonded to try. I have some of that and would like to see the results. Thanks again. Loved the 30-30 stuff also. Maybe 35 rem corlok and hornady gummy tips?

    I went through my shot log and I found that I tested velocity of the Hornady Superformance 5.56 NATO with a 55gr GMX bullet, the predecessor to the CX bullet. Using a 20” barrel with a 1-12 twist, I got an average velocity of 3223 fps.

    I just shot some 50cx today, hand loads out of a ar15 18" barrel using cfe223 and I got 3101 fps avg, hornady 4dof says at 100 yards my velocity is 2671 and energy at 100 is 792#s. Planing on using these on a doe this coming season

    Interesting. Really impressive but wound cavity is so weak but would do the job. I enjoy seeing the mini action demos. 350 legend, 300 Bo, 7.62x39 6.5 Grendel.

    Not terrible but if I go with these I am going 55. I am not overly impressed with small & short wound channel. Good shot placement at closer range. Thank you.

  • @dustinjohnson7728
    @dustinjohnson7728 Před 2 měsíci +1

    55gr is the minimum weight allowed in some states for deer hunting. Also, since copper is less dense than lead, copper projectiles tend to be longer than cup and core bullets of the same weight.

    • @BuggaBoy69
      @BuggaBoy69 Před měsícem

      Bullet weight and velocity are nice to have but shot placement and shooting within effective range are the key factors to ethical hunting.
      I know an old timer that would pop (does, fawns, spikes) with .22 shorts at night because it was hard to hear the shot. He always aimed for the neck and would recover the deer every time.
      It wasn’t until he bought a .270 Winchester rifle, started hunting legally, and started taking lung shots, shoulder shots, and heart shots that he ran into trouble tracking his deer.
      Know your limits, the limits of your rifle/scope, and the limits of your cartridge/ammunition.
      Don’t go for a shoulder shot with a 50gr .223. Go for the neck.

  • @mot0rhe4d40
    @mot0rhe4d40 Před 8 měsíci +1

    I suspect the four petal design, lends itself to the good penetration characteristics. Does more of a broadhead effect versus the classic instant mushroom that acts like a parachute.
    Think either these or the Barnes would serve a hunter well in this caliber

  • @mr.mr.3301
    @mr.mr.3301 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Found out for best accuracy you should have a clean barrel for copper. Lehigh even has an insert in their ammo.

    • @phild9813
      @phild9813 Před 8 měsíci

      In my experience, the issue is with a dirty barrel from traditional ammo. I haven’t run into issues shooting just the same copper ammo, and starting with a clean barrel. I don’t find this to be an issue, except with an AR15 that I’m switching back and forth between cheaper fmj/bthp at the range and Barnes TSX. Makes me not want to shoot copper in the AR15, as I also don’t believe scrubbing on the barrel with copper solvents all the time is good on the barrel.

  • @randymathewson7939
    @randymathewson7939 Před 8 měsíci

    Your old Browning's 1 x 12" is the same as M16A1 so 55 gr or lighter should be fine, as long as your individual barrel likes it. As u said, the copper solids are a bit finicky

      @@sayimsgt4953 yeap personal experience shooting deer and hogs with both bonded and copper bullet types. I love both and both have their place but copper just hits different and cuts a hell of a wound channel. I shoot the barnes 110gr tac-tx in my 300blk and the barnes 129gr LRX and hornady 130gr CX in my 270win. Also other copper tests on targets. Vortex nation does some great videos testing them.

    How do the CX bullets compare with Barnes bullets?

  • @Fredmullegun
    @Fredmullegun Před 8 měsíci

    the 50gr has a terrible BC and is slower. probably useful if you have a 1:12" twist rifle. those rifles will have longer barrels. They probably loaded that shorter bullet with slower powder to take advantage of that longer barrel. Probably lost a ton of velocity with your short barrel.

  • @carfvallrightsreservedwith6649

    Published velocities are established in standard longer barrels, usually 22-24". Expect to lose 50-75 fps for each inch lacking.

  • @CircleBrewery

    55gr- 10% more weight, roughly 10% more velocity, energy and penetration over the 50 gr load.

  • @Weatherby406
    @Weatherby406 Před 8 měsíci

    From my experience with both copper and lead.. copper penetrates much farther and holds together. Game usually runs after shot.. lead blows up more and I get allot more dropped game on impact. Negative is you have lead in all the meat because it explodes into it.

      This stuff would be very expensive for target work, I’d go with whatever’s cheapest for that, unless you’re talking about precision stuff, in which case you would have to try a bunch of stuff to see what your rifle shoots the best
