0:00 Intro
0:05 2019 Ford Ranger. Not sure why but the customer decided to change the spark plugs himself, even though the truck didn't need them. Looks like the customer dropped a socket (6mm) into the spark plug hole.
0:32 As mentioned, the customer forgot to install 1 spark plug. The vehicle will still start and what you hear is compression coming through the spark plug hole. The vehicle is a Mazda Tribute (Same as Ford Escape).
0:44 The technician said he's not buying the full story of what the customer said. The viewer who sent this in has sent in a lot of clips + updates, so I will update you guys if I get an update.
0:55 As you can see one of the rear shocks is bent 90 degrees.
I was thinking this was caused by maybe the customer lifting their truck and keeping the stock shocks in the rear. So the shocks are over-extended and over time it bent one of the shocks. However, I did not get more information from the technician who filmed this but will update you guys if I do.
1:10 I've seen this lots from people driving on old tires. Most tire manufacturers recommended getting new tires after 10 years, even if they look to be okay. On the sidewall of the tire, you can find the date code, which tells you what week and year the tire was manufactured. You can read more about this here - bit.ly/3R6HRzj
1:17 The customer drove from somewhere in Alberta, Canada (didn't mention where) to Vancouver Island Canada which is quite the long drive, with a lot of mountain driving. It is scary to think they drove on these brakes. Also, 1 caliper bolt was missing.
1:29 Wiring looks clean but they could have done a cleaner job on the installation.
1:39 No extra info from the technician who filmed this. He did say it looked like quite the fire hazard though.
2:06 A good reminder to check the u-joints/grease them every service.
2:21 Not sure how long the customer drove on a flat tire, but I'm going to assume quite a while for the wheel to look like that.
2:28 As mentioned the tires were made on the 14th week of 1995 and are VERY dry rotted and should be replaced.
2:40 New wiper blades have a plastic cover on the thin rubber strip to protect them before being installed. The customer left that on and that's why it wasn't working as designed.
2:53 Got towed in because it wouldn't start (needs ignition switch). The viewer who sent this clip in should be in the comments and able to answer questions regarding this Trans Am.
3:10 Outro. Thanks for watching! - Auta a dopravní prostředky

Happy CANADA DAY 🇨🇦
27 year old tires with a ton of dry rot. Guy probably said there was plenty of tread left and the mechanics are trying to sell me something I don’t need.
@Harry Balls in America many states do not require vehicle inspections. I personally think there should be a mandatory brake, tire, and frame check every couple of years but the state can't do anything right so I'd rather no inspections at all.
When they blow out he'll get to buy new tires and pay for a tow, if he doesn't wreck first.
Oohhh they're good for another 100,000. C'mon now. Those were Perelli we're talking about 👌🏻👌🏻
All joking aside...he's lucky if that tire made it 80 straight mile before it gave out. Being a tire specialist from backwoods western Pa...I've seen this ..often. I've covered the cost a new or used loaner tire, for a customer, myself, on several occasions...
I can't let something like that back out the door. Especially when I find out... children ride in the vehicle..
@Harry Balls if they're caught on the road like that they can be fined, and the vehicle towed.
California has state inspections that pretty much make it illegal to make any changes to the vehicle which is incredible stupid and draconian. As an American id prefer reactive measures over proactive measure when it comes to the government, as freedom is more important to me than safety...
You can have old tires with plenty of tread doesn't mean they are good and most likely they are not. Have a few and they have dry rot plenty of tread however.
After watching these type videos I can totally understand any shop turning someone away. Sometimes it’s just not worth it because the same people who don’t take care of their car probably complain about the costs to repair it.
funnily enough, no one from this video was turned away by a shop. most shops don’t like turning people away but sometimes it’s too dangerous. when i was a kid, my grandma went to have her oil changed and almost got turned away when they popped the hood bc her battery was so corroded. my mom had to replace the battery before the techs would even step near the car
These are also the sort of people who would file a claim against you stating that the mechanical failure was your fault because "it was fine before you worked on it."
@@keithcunningham923 Just take a ton of video footage.
I run a shop and there's a few reasons I've turned someone away.
A) rust issues. If your car is so rotted that I can peel your pinch welds off with my bare hands, it won't survive a jack being placed at the normal jack point. And usually, getting all 4 posts under the car on a lift is near impossible with that level of rot, it's simply not worth it for me to do an oil change with $20 in profit, to risk my life and risk your car falling off the lift because of a pre existing rot issue.
B) you're hoping to make something my problem. And you have to be careful because if you don't know you'll end up getting bit. A perfect example is the kid who came in with a 2007 mustang 4.6. Asks me to change *one* spark plug for him. Hmm, strange. Why would he want that? Well, after a string of BS that came out of his mouth, it boils down to the fact that he tried changing them himself but couldn't get cylinder #7 out. So he brings it to me. Anyone who knows cars pretty well can tell you the ford engines from that era (4.6, 5.4, 6.8) will either blow spark plugs out of the threads or seize in place and break while removing them. This guy wanted to pay me $40 for a "simple job" so it could be MY problem when the spark plug broke off in the head, and I'd be the one who broke it, and the one doing the huge job to fix it. Not happening.
C) you feel like they'll be a problem customer. Much like my last statement, It doesn't matter on this one, If I feel like you are trying to pull a fast one, if I feel like your car isn't worth the hassle vs LIABILITY, or I think there will be a problem with either the repair or your attitude...then I'll kindly tell you that I'm not interested in taking on the repair.
I actually did the wiper cover thing. I fitted new blade refills without my reading glasses, tried washing the windscreen on the way to fill up with fuel and thought these are the worse blades ever. Put my glasses on to check them and found clear plastic covers on them. Felt like an idiot.
At least you didn't pay a mechanic to remove the blade covers for you?
*worst
if you cant see without glasses you shouldnt drive without them
@@nilz6432 you don't need to wear reading glasses while driving.
I also did the same thing with rainex blades on the Miss's car.
Those were “trip wires”. 😛. Smokey and the Bandit would be proud of that Trans Am.
especially those chinese made tires he bought at sams club
Smokey. No kidding! Those wires were the best way possible of destroying your car in a fire!
I love how you put videos and shots of cars in pristine condition at the end of the video. It reminds me that for every dimwit out there driving an accident on wheels, there is someone who really takes care of their vehicle.
I appreciate that as well.
Honestly, while that one power lock wiring was on the wrong side of the door panel, it was very neatly done compared to a lot of the stuff on here
Still not understanding why they did it like that. Clearly had pannel off to connect and install electrical lock solenoid ,, then just gave up???
At least they put a fuse in it 🤷♂ I don't understand how someone could do it that neatly but not bother to tuck it away.
@@theglitch99 maybe it was a case of "what if it breaks again? dun'wanna take off the panel again, such a bother!"
@@lotharrenz4621 But they still would have to because the actuator was on the inside.
@@Tracert-mc1hu maybe it was a case of "it looked like a good idea at the time"?
"The mechanic was shocked..."
I see what you ddi there LOL
A+ for an appropriately placed pun.
When the customer learned what it would cost, it really dampened their spirits.
@@RPG-oh1yf I bet, but once he paid the mechanic, he sprung into action.
That brake pedal that came loose on a brand new car is really something. You'd ask the dealership to take the car back and never buy that brand again.
Wow, that Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am is a thing of beauty ♡
I was expecting to see Burt Reynolds sitting in it:)
A socket in the combustion chamber could've easily been fished out with a magnet!
Not to mention, the guy decided to do his spark plugs at 25k...logic is clearly not his forte
Also, why even start the engine when you know there is a socket in the combustion chamber...?!
My thought exactly! I drop stuff all the time. Extendable magnets are your friend
Maybe he haven't seen where the thing landed and started the engine
@@intraxx88 I agree, there's no way he knew it was in there! I hope
I have so many questions on the first one...
1) How do you drop a socket into an engine? The only sockets that MIGHT be small enough to drop in there are 1/4, which is definitely not what you use to take out spark plugs.
2) Why in the hecking dilly would you try to start it if you knew there was a socket in there??? I'll give the guy some credit though as he may have forgot.
3) How on earth did he get insurance to cover that? Even with comprehensive, I would think they would deny the incident claiming that the owner was a moron, which is considered a preexisting condition.
At the very least, he made the problem worse by starting the engine.
1: probably the 10mm that hold the coils...
The claim is it was dropped in the engine bay, so he likely didn't know it actually was in the motor. There's still no excuse as I'd personally stop what I was doing until the bolt/socket was found.
@@mawe42 Probably correct, but I'd still think the butt end of a 3/8 socket would be too big to go down a plug hole. I might be wrong though.
@@Kcducttaper1 Depends on the make and model. A 3/8 socket would fit through the plug holes on my current car, but not on my last car.
The mystery of the missing 10mm socket has been solved!
Question is, whose 10mm socket was it? I mean, there are a lot of them running loose in the world.
The loose brake pedal gives a whole new meaning to Fred Flinstone brakes and California Stop. 🤦♀️
Lol! I wonder what happened to the brake pedal. Especially on such a new vehicle.
@@JustRolledIn right?! That’s really scary. Bad malfunction and failure.
@@JustRolledIn Fiat quality
Well.... It is a Fiat.
@@actual_nonsense I was waiting for that comment 😜
I wonder if the socket had a lifetime warranty?
Snapon brand.
I cant believe the insurance company is covering a new engine even though the owner did the damage himself. Who drops a socket in the spark plug hole and still turns over the engine? Smh
@@jacksmith2315 The same kind of person who changes spark plugs on a brand new truck with 25k miles.
If I was a mechanic and someone came in with tires like that, I'd refuse to work on their vehicle until they were replaced (and they'd have to sign a waiver when they leave if the hazard isn't fixed)
I think they can refuse to allow the vehicle to leave legally as it's a definite hazard, probably need a cop called tho.
We did like this couple of times, when i was in Subaru dealership. Once with tyres, once with timing belt (customer didn't expected to replace it by 100K miles /160K km), so we replaced entire engine month later 🙃🙃
@@marjoriegoodwin9121 - Every state handles this differently.
No one Common Sense Law.
@@intraxx88 certainly in the UK that would happen. 3 points and a fine for every bad tyre, you only get 12 points and you are banned (6 if you have only passed your test within 2 years).
@@handlesarefeckinstupid good system. Considering our winter road deaths statistic caused by wrong or bad tyres, it's better to make people use bus instead of dangerous to anyone car
I understand how you might accidentally drop a socket into the engine, accidents happen. WHAT I CAN"T UNDERSTAND is why you would try to start it with the socket still in there?
well if we take the customers word, he said he dropped it into the engine bay
so maybe he just assumed it would fall out
Oh hell it’ll pop right back out the same way it in….. right??? 😆
Why is right, stop everything and get socket out!!!!
Probably thought it would get blown out the exhaust or something.
Must be a 10mm socket. Now we know where they go.
I need to know what insurance company covers a new engine after you start it with a socket in it :P
No shit right?! Haha
I have heard of insurance companies doing that. Otherwise, the owner would probably quit making payments on the vehicle and let the vehicle be repossessed due to mechanical failure (mechanical salvage) as the owner most likely could not afford the repair themselves.
If an engine gets wrecked like that and the insurance doesn't pay, I wouldn't continue to make payments on it sitting out in my driveway and non-useable. They can have the POS back.
Some of these are just scary, thinking those people share the roads with the rest of us 👍🏼👊🏼🦖🍺
That trans am is beautiful. Be nice if vehicle designers could design something with simple body lines like that
The problem is they keep making them more and more boaty --- thick/tall doors and tiny windows. Feel like you're driving a tank.
Very few cars really stand out because they all look the same these days.
The bloated body and high waistline design is to meet safety standars.
My dad had a 1978 camaro that was black. Maybe I'm biased, but i think that generation and this trans am are some of the best looking cars ever.
Reminds me if being a kid. Smokey and the Bandit was a great film.
It is amazing to see these problems and wonder how did they learn how to fix a car or get a driver license.
Going by the video they didn't learn how to fix a car. lol
Driving is easy, fixing-not so easy.
@@markk3652 well driving on tires that has a date from 1995 and a huge crack in the side wall and they refused to get a new tire.. yeah right. or I hear this clanking sound but I will continue driving for 800 miles hopefuly it will go away..
@@markk3652 Driving is easy, and yet a majority of people *still* manage to screw it up. What does that tell you?
because it is incredibly simple to get a driver's license and there is zero required training on maintenance

@@tdogaz4114 nice one I like your comment. Gee seems there are plenty of stupid people still playing around with their cars. That's good for the channels content though.
The last one customer states,' Eagle crashed on my hood.'
You misspelled fire chicken
At least the remote start wires were clean🤷🏽♂️ Can't say the same about the other videos, they be making the wires in my 40 year old truck look like a server room lol
That's the only thing that was good about that wiring job but otherwise wtf 😆
Every time I get car paranoia about the state of my vehicle, I watch your channel to sleep at night. Thanks for showing me it could ALWAYS be worse. ✌️
Nice Turbo Trans Am at the end there!
2:30 These tires are good for at least another 50 yards 👍
I'm guessing the tires will go at the end of the driveway.
Riding around on almost 30 year old tires... at that point just get out and walk.
@@MattExzy Yea don't get to close with your head at least. These things can explode by the slightest temp change 😵
I hate to admit it but I did that wiper faux pas myself once. I did figure out the problem pretty quickly though! HA!
So THAT’S where all the 10mm sockets disappear to! 😂
Just in the past week there were 2 different people bringing in tires with pre-2k date codes (one of which was dated 1990!)
Today I was asked to roll one in for a "repair", I turned to the service manager and said "Think we can get this guy a tire from this century?" and wouldn't you know it, the customer was right there with a "new" tire in his hands.
I'm on the road a lot in an area that can easily neglect tires thanks to a lack of real winter weather, it scares the shit out of me seeing stuff like this on youtube wondering what's about to explode next to me on the interstate.
That Trans Am was beautiful! The 1995 tire before a road trip is why I argue about inspections (some believe it's too intrusive)
After seeing these clips, I agree with state inspection
I wouldn’t drive around the block with 1995 tires!!
I wonder what the spare tire looks like apart from a little deflated.
I wouldn't stand within 15 feet of stationary 1995 tires.
Y'all some scaredy cats! They're FINE!
I drove a bronco 2 in 2010 with tires from 93 on it , they looked like those so we drove it into town and got new tires lol

Watched an episode of south main auto this morning , saw some brakes that would have been awesome on this channel ( thin , and I mean thin , round strip of metal was all that remained of the rear brake rotor ) 🤪
Watched that one today as well. Saw more than my fair share of those as a technician.
it's a good day when JRI uploads
It's a good day when ToastaStix comments.
This channel manages to both amuse and terrify me, these cars are right next to you at 70 mph.
Customers really shouldn't do projects with wiring it seems -- if they are this handy with cars imagine what their home projects look like. Thanks & keep up the great content!
The unattached brake pedal is awsome...gotta love the..."quality" comment from the tech....that had me laughing for a good 20 minutes....and that's a lovely thunder chicken at the end there....
I've seen brake pads installed backwards when I owned a bike shop in the 90's. Seen it more than once which scared the crap out of me.
And that's why I only do my own work. Just because a shop does it doesn't mean they do it right or care as much about your car as you do.
Just Rolled in always makes me feel better about my fleet. I don't have any of the things I see on here yet thank God.

How I love those second generation F bodies! My first car was a gold (ugh) '70 Firebird with a "350" Pontiac V8 and a Hydromatic slushbox, 21 years old when I bought it in high school. It was a base car, not even air conditioning, but I was young and impervious to summer heat. Six months after I bought it the car and I went on a 3,000 mile road trip the summer before my senior year; none of my classmates believed I'd actually done it when I went back. The car served me well for over five years through spring breaks in Florida and midnight drives in Delaware. I smoked a Ferrari with it too (though it was a Mondial convertible with two jocks up front and two bikini-clad floozies in back - it couldn't get out of its own way) and took my girlfriend on frequent runs to Rehoboth Beach. Good times. Great car.
This is why our insurance is so expensive. Why should an engine destroyed because of their negligence be covered?
