    This is one of those times I disagree with Scott. To me the TOTK opening feels like a natural evolution to how BOTW did it what with TOTK being a continuation.
    I mean I suppose its possible a newcomer could jump into TOTK, but I question why when BOTW is right there. TOTK first and foremost feels like a part 2 with the full assumption you witnessed part 1. Thats like watching Empire Strikes Back without watching A New Hope.

      Personally I found the Great Sky Island to be slow and railroaded, which wasn't much of an issue on first try. But on replay I find it to be such a slog to get through. It just feels... clunky

    • @dave9515
      @dave9515 Před měsícem +1

      TOTK realyl isn't a true sequel to BOTW so jumping into TOTK causes no issues whatsoever.

      I agree, KingK said it well, tears often the kingdom is best enjoyed by someone who has already played breath of the wild, as it plays off of your expectations of what each area is like.

    Yeah I agree, Just about what I thought. I like to replay games like doing challenge runs for example, I have to say that TOTK is much more boring on repeat playthroughs than BOTW. There really is less to do on GSI btw, I wanted to do a spear only run right? There's only 2. On the whole island. BOTW has more, and at least has SOME variety, totk has a couple sticks and that's it. I mean I don't really care if they don't think about challenge runners or anything, I just thought It'd prove the point.

  • @dave9515
    @dave9515 Před měsícem +1

    No opening is as good as OOT though in terms of pacing. You wake up and see some dialog then can just go beat up gohma after grabbing the sword and shield. BOTW's opening is good but its pacing is much slower than said here honestly since the custscenes that do happen cannot be skipped and they last longer than those cutscenes in OOT. Its basically good for the most part buts its actually pretty slow still. To be fair its hard to beat the opening of OOT and maybe nothing every will except a remake of itself.

    • @ryko1478
      @ryko1478 Před měsícem +4

      I don't know what you're talking about, OOT is mega slow, there might not be as many cutscenes but there's so much dialogue that you need to read to know what to do or where to go while also being extremely linear

  • @Phirestar

    There’s few things I despise more in video games than when a developer railroads the player. I’m not talking about linear sequences that take place on a fixed path and are clearly a scripted sequence of events. When the game make it very clear and establishes that it is linear, I’m fine with that.
    What I’m referring to is stuff like what I experienced in Pokémon Black recently, at the first Gym in Striaton, where if you try and leave the town to explore the next Route without getting the Gym badge, some random old man will stop you at the gate and says, “Oh, you don’t have a Gym badge? Well I can’t let you through here, you’re too weak for the next area.”, and forcibly turns your character away.
    Fuck that brand of condescending game design. The developers are saying to you, “No, you don’t have freedom. You don’t get to play the game the way you want. You’re going to do this _exactly_ the way we tell you to do it. You’re going to grind the same three Pokémon in the tall grass until you have enough levels to beat the Gym leader. No go kill the 37th Lillipup for 1/8 of a level.”
    I quit the game after that. I love the concept of Pokémon, but I hate when a game treats me like I’m stupid and takes away all of my choice and forces me to play the “right way”.

    Big disagree with Scott on tears of the kingdoms opening, It virtually does exactly the same thing that breath of the wild's opening does except with this game's new set of mechanics.

    Both games are awful, but I’ll give BotW this: the Great Plateau is really, _really_ good. Too good, even. It sets up expectations that the rest of the game simply does not live up to.
