One intermittent taillight, a massive door gap, Corvette Rally wheels, and a sound that feels like it comes from a dragon. Yep, definitely a '70s Camaro.
VulpesHilarianus those aren't "Corvette Rally" wheels. They're Chevy Rally II's, stock on several Chevrolet vehicles including Nova's, Monte Carlo's, and yes, Corvette's and Camaro's.
@@rogermurph101 does it really matter that much what their called those wheels could be called chevy sniff wheels and they'd still be awesome
@@rogermurph101 I look at those wheels, and I envision a Chevelle SS.
@@gaydes1012 Yes it actually does matter to get the fact right.

mr regular is a fucking pussy at driving though, weird he's made a career out of driving cars
Terminxman mr.regular has outright said in a couple videos that he doesn’t condone driving like an idiot on the road. While one good pull can’t be considered being an idiot also mind you he’s driving someone else’s baby. Would you get in the vagabond falcon and just gun it? Personally feel blue balled without the pull too

Sometimes it's not about the numbers. It's not always about the objectives. Sometimes it's about the subjectives. The way it sounds, the way it FEELS. A big-block V8 rumbles and vibrates and shakes the entire car around. It's not just sitting under the hood, quietly doing its thing. It wants you to know it's alive. It's alive, and it's ANGRY.
I think you're legally required to wear a wifebeater when driving that car.😁

You're thinking third gen shirts are banned in the second gen if it's a big block pants are optional

WHOOSH
Anthony Flagg I'm glad you're here to explain this, so I don't have to. He's insinuating that, TODAY, nobody wants a big car, with a big engine when you can have the same power out of a much lighter car and smaller engine, and be faster. So "big" is kind of an insult.
Think of it this way; the most popular muscle car to buy today is the Ford Mustang, even though the most revered muscle car of today is the Dodge Challenger. Why is this? Shouldn't the Challenger sell better across the board? No. Muscle cars today are sponsored by conservative straight white males looking to rekindle their glory days, and because these cars hearken to a time passed over by the progressive society of today, these cars and the people who drive them are demonized. When you think of a car that screams "cop clickbait," you think of the Nissan GTR, the Subaru STi, the Mitsubishi Evo, or the BMW M4 if you live in Bellevue, WA. Cops don't pull over Challengers and Camaros like they used to, because chances are that the driver has a cigarette resting beneath his mustache and he's trying to get away from his stereotypical sitcom of a marriage for an hour. He just wants to be left alone with his opinions for a while, and that's unacceptable to a lot of people, because his opinions are the undoing of their way of life, even if he doesn't want them enforced on anyone else.
Moving back to the subject, the Mustang is the lightest, best handling, least powerful, roundest, and most inoffensively small. The Camaro and Challenger are easily mocked because they're seen not as cars for dicks, but cars for YOUR dick. It's that misunderstanding that allows muscle cars to be mocked in such a fashion, because that one word changes the entire meaning of the phrase, even if the original phrase doesn't apply unless you think an ordinary white guy is the banal existence of Satan on Earth.
And that right there can summarize car culture's place in society pretty well. It's a mutual misunderstanding of what the "deplorables" actually are. We hoist each other up as boogeymen, not realizing that in doing so, we become the very thing we despise. Thus, the big block is the official engine of Paul Joseph Watson videos, the Nissan Murano is the official car of every bad marriage (read: every straight marriage), and car culture is fast becoming just another cesspit of poorly-thought-out political diatribes and yes, I am certainly aware of the irony of that statement.
A Rose for Emily... for the second time in my life, I had forgotten that damn story. We were forced to read that in 8th grade. I put that story out of my mind, then we had to read it again in college. Grossed out again. Yep, thanks for reminding me of a story that implies necrophilia. God damn you Mr. Regular.
Milsurp Mike you have my curiosity. Please, go on
I thought it sounded familiar. I just looked through my word documents and found the homework assignment from ENGL 1102 where the entire class was required to summarize it. It was not my favorite story. The weirdest part of that class was where we were required to make a short film adaptation of "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
Anthony... Read the story. Until the end. You will throw up in your mouth a little bit.
holy shit i just wrote my Rose For Emily paper for 1101.. wild
Milsurp Mike Read that shit in 10th grade. figured it out what was going on half way through. The most wtf thing I ever read in school.
When saying LS motors made the big block obsolete, that is only encompassing how the LS effected cars used as daily drivers. In the racing world, big blocks are very much still alive. While no LS motors have ever made it into the 5 second range, big block chevy based motors have gone as far as 5.46 second passes, and the LS world record sits at around 6.1. Which doesn’t seem like much outside of the drag racing world, but in that world 6 tenths of a second is a pretty considerable lead.
Because, every second counts.... Just like me trying to get my roomate's friend, butbgetting cockblocked by pervy landlord.
Bigblocks are still king. Quickest doorslammers in the world usually have a big Chevy based engine. That angers the LS fanboys.
>lsx 454 plops balls onto table
They're not entirely obsolete. Big Blocks are still top dog at extreme (2000+ horsepower) power levels, particularly in drag racing. LS small blocks are still catching up in this area. For actual street car usage though, LS engines are available in everything up to 454 cubic inches, in a smaller and lighter package than old BBCs.
atfsgeoff I believe someone has gone up to a 500+ ci “small block” I cannot remember the exact details though
"bbcs" hehe.
Big block/ small block is not based on displacement it's based on deck height. I could be wrong but I believe that all LS engines are small blocks
Noah Ferrari your right
Bore spacing, small block bores are closer limiting the piston to about 4.185 which can shroud valves limiting head flow and to get larger cubic inch your only choice is to use a less ideal longer stroke which adds rotational weight, increases friction, increases piston speed stressing the internals ,and poor rod ratios. there is just a point when a big blocks be come the better choice, i believe its around 427 / 7.0L the big block can run a 4.250"x3.75" plus BBC's still have the best flowing heads and iron LSX blocks and BBC's are pretty close in weight. Also a 572ci can make 700hp on pump gas and never heat soak after a few passes let alone a drive across the desert.
“Their relevance is declining, but even if we don’t always celebrate our elders, it’s a common courtesy to grant them the dignity of a patient audience.” Hhnnnnngggg.
Big block relevance decking....? I’m in about 8 groups filled with about 950,000-1,000,000 altogether
Bigblocks ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Hundreds of thousands of them are being built right know. These LS fanboys believe everything they hear on the web.
He actually said that the moment I scrolled down to this comment!
the 427 was available from 67-69 as a special order in the 67-69 Camaro. 1970 listed the 454 as an option but it was never offered. the 396/402 (called a 396 anyways) Big Block was always offered..until 1972, then it was gone.
net-rioter guarantee if you ordered it, you could have got that 454
Only in 1969 did GM allow the 427 to be special ordered in the Camaro from the factory.
In '67 and '68, any 427 Camaro was dealer installed
Big blocks are the rip and tear of passenger car engines

The 3.8L V6 does not look to be offered until the 1980 camaro on. The 3.8 I6 (230) was offered as the base engine of the first gen camaro's, by 1970 the base engine was the 4.1 I6 (250).
230 V6 after 230 I6? wtf.

I drove an early 2nd gen Camaro, and those things have a tendency to wander a bit, along with the one finger power steering makes it a bit of a trip to drive.

The same dam thing..
You are doing nothing wrong, friend. Any time is RCR time
I heard an Atari playing on a warm summer night with grasshoppers chirping in the distance while watching this.
my older brother had one for his first car. when he bought it, it was a bare shell with glass and one front fender. after a few months of working on it whenever he could, and talking my dad into building a high compression 383 chevy for it, he did his first burnout with it. he got in a lot of trouble with that car. even got kicked out of the local drag strip. naturally aspirated, it ran fast enough to need a roll cage and 5 point seat belts. 3rd time he wrecked it, it sat for a few years, and then he sold it to our oldest brother. who restored it to factory condition and sold it for a good profit.
How can you not love an engine thats idle is SO lumpy that you can count the individual cylinders firing? That mix of oil and gas, that sound of carbureted induction and exhaust. You could close your eyes and in your head the image of this car (or ones very much like) it takes form. There are so few types of cars that can capture the imagination like that.
Owner really struggles to keep it between the lines there...
seoulpurpose usually because 70s and 80s GM recirculating ball steering boxes have a LOT of slop in them and are so overboosted you can feel anything.
digitalrailroader Can confirm, this problem still persists in my '81 Scottsdale. General Motors is nothing if not consistent, I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy a brand new Denali with steering play or at least out of alignment lol! (yknow, the ones with electronically controlled steering and ride assist etc.)
it was prevalent in our '81 Sierra Classic too. it had as much play as the XJ Cherokee Classic Mr Regular reviewed 3 years ago.
digitalrailroader I kinda like it in a way though... Like I know it's completely unsafe, and it makes tight cornering hell, but there's just like a special amount of fun associated with it

Thank you Mr.Regular!!!
Roman, that harmony at the end was amazing.
My very first car was a 1972 Camaro. 350, A/C, Power Stearing, Power Brakes. That was 15 years ago and I still cry a little bit when I see it driving around (the guy I sold it to lives the next city over).
The "big block" merely means the spacing in between the cylinders, not the size of the engine or power-output necessarily. More spacing allowed for less over-heating is all; now a moot point.
A big block (which is a Chevy term) merely means the entire engine is larger with more metal in-between each cylinder. Theoretically, you could have both a small and big-block 350, but the "big block" would weigh more due to the extra distance between the cylinders. As a bonus, the engine wouldn't self-destruct as easily when very analog and inaccurate power modifiers were clumsily added, such as a turbo, supercharger, nitro, etc. giving the engine a better reputation for amateur tuners. Sure, you'd get more oil leaks because that was still the weak-point, the gaskets.
All small block and big block motors were completly different motors with very different designs. This was true for all brands except Pontiac. And yes I know that Chevy was the only one using the term small block and big block in their literature. It was also more of a difference than bore spacing. Deck height was higher on all the "big block" motors from the various brands. Also the castings were much more robust. Ford had several lines of V8's going at the same time as well. A couple on the smaller end and a couple on the big end. Pontiac was unique in that all displacements used the same block with only the main journal changing in diameter. Oldsmobile is actually unique as well because they never changed the bore spacing only deck height, main journal diameter and head bolt diameter. Otherwise everything else was the same between the small and big Olds. The lines were definatly blurred between where a small block ended and a big block started as far as displacement goes. All the engines started at the small end grew to their maximum size and then went back down when the fuel crisis hit.
My uncle recently gave my dad a 1973 Camaro we gonna have to rebuild it though
Enjoy. You two are gonna have some good memories from doing that build.

" big is a four letter word somwhere else, but in america is a way of live"
Love it.
Thank you for this one Mr Regular. This was my dad’s project and road trip car in the early 80s - in puke orange, white stripe, with the girly V6 - and the car he taught me to do the basics on. I have fond memories, and everything you say here is bang on. What engine would you swap in if you could find a non-runner in decent shape? It’s a thought. I drive a Golf R and this could be a better choice.
big blocks are expensive as hell, and so are LS's if you don't have 8 grand to blow on a crate motor. your best bet for a drop in motor would probably be a 350. if you don't want to buy one off of ebay, or even the junkyard, you can buy a turnkey 350 crate motor for like 4 grand. you just gotta work out what transmission you want. do you want fun driving, or fun cruising. do you live in the city or in a rural area where manual isn't a bother for you. etc.
NotASkinwalker - thanks for the thoughtful reply. Does it have to be a GM motor? No XJS / Duratec V6 or other semi-efficient choice? I have no idea what’s feasible. For me it would be mostly highway duty as these things have to be rebuilt to turn a corner. I’m mostly interested in the thought experiment but I’d give up the Golf so let’s assume I have $15k for everything.
The discreet but built 455 Poncho in my 2nd gen Trans Am wasn't made obsolete by the LS engine by any means.
Trans am envy is like penis envy.
But the Pontiac 455 is technically not a big block ;)

1:58 Hey that's the river of rocks at Hawk Mountain! Very Pennsylvanian, was just there a couple of weeks ago!
For 1970, that is a good interior. The early 2nd Gen Camaros and Firebirds were gorgeous cars...until 1975 when GM ruined the styling by growing the rear window.
The Trans Am was still beautiful, if not over the top.
The bigger rear window was the best... as was the enlarged integral spoiler and the more aerodynamic noses of the later ones. The no-grille Firebirds were the best looking of the whole series IMHO.
You talking about the 80-81 models? That's what I had, an 80 Trans Am Turbo (that I dropped a 455 in) and it got a lot of compliments, even in the middle of traffic, everywhere I went.

+Dmitriy Nikitin yeah when properly modified new heads and intake you can out put about 390-400HP and a 454 you could get nearly 500hp with the corvette Heads dual plane intake 750cfm Holley carb and 3 3/4 inch headers
Not at nearly 6 bucks a gallon you wouldn't.

7:01 You could get any model of camaro with split bumpers, it was the RS "Rally Sport" package. You could also get full bumper SS, Z28's, or the split bumper version which is a RS/SS or RS/Z28. An easy sign to notice a converted full to split bumper would be that there is rectangular turn signals under the headlight like the one in the video, whereas originals have the round turn signal next to the headlights
Those were the days!
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Just think about it.. In those day the streets were full of awesome sounding machines.
True
Absolutely. Meanwhile, people around me only care how their smartphone connects with the car...
Like all times in history it looks great upon reflection, mostly because people only remember the ideal moments. The streets were never really filled with these cars, during their heyday they were expensive sports cars which eventually became cheap and plentiful only due to how much no one wanted them.
The oil crisis crashed the value of these cars and put them in the hands of teenagers looking for cheap rides while everyone else searched for something efficient. That's part of why they're so revered now, because your dad's friends, and maybe your dad, got a chance to taste a class of car they were never meant to have. Like people who got to experience fine dining because the bottom dropped out on the market, everyone else wanted burgers so the guy selling lobster started giving it away to stay afloat.
It was because cars like this abruptly became unpopular, they didn't roam free, that they have their immense reputation now.
+russetwolf13 actually I’ve asked my father about this and he has expressly stated that nearly almost everyone near him had some type of muscle car back in the 70s From mustangs to swapped dusters, he even had a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 two door with a big block ford and my mother had a 1971 Charger SE with a 383 big block, hell even I own a 1986 Chevrolet C10.

My mom had a '70 Camaro. Got taken to school and church in the backseat through my childhood. Fun car.
Old school engines feel, sound, and smell great. Silly, inefficient, and who cares. It's not always about having the fastest car of the comment section.
My ultimate old man, wouldn't call it dream, but want, is to take one of these bodies, do a project Binky on it, then drop a Bentley Brooklands V8 and transmission in it. I have the engine package, will get the car, eventually.
For procrastinators, 530bhp and 1030Nm of torque. And that's before i'll play with a new engine management. I'll call it the "Colonial Pig".
The only problem with doing a project of this magnitude in Project Binky fashion is that it may never be completed haha.
This would be a switch on the "Trans-Atlantic" specialty cars like AC Cobra, Sunbeam Tiger, Jensen Interceptor, DeTomaso Pantera - which used American engines in Brit/Euro cars from the factory. Others liked to swap American engines into MG, Triumph, Jaguar, Opel, VW, ...
I had to look up the Camaro from Better off Dead which was a 67. Funny story about that Camaro. After production on Better Off Dead wrapped, the car ended up in the possession of the son of the film's transportation coordinator. Years later, an obsessive fan of Camaros and the movie launched an exhaustive search for the car. He located it in Los Angeles, purchased it, and restored it to its former glory.
Went to school with a kid who had a 72 split bumper with a built 502 and a 50 shot. I was always jealous.
Who here daily's a big bock, I am one of those guys. 454 in a 83 C30. I do construction but still.
6:47 Hey miata
I do have to say that this year was my favorite of the older Camaro line.
2nd gen camaros are my favorite. I NEED one of the ones with 4 headlights, at least once in my life.
What was the song parody of in the beginning?
Muamin Hugsy Clean Bandit - Symphony
Zara? Symphony. .
This is when American cars were cool and meant something. Today it is about SUVs (which are called trucks because... machismo?), what a sad sad development... same in Europe. Instead of the smart small to mid size cars, besides the huge Mercedeses and the very cool Opel Manta and old VW Scirocco, the trend shifted to faceless, soulless SUVs. While the growing poor class maybe can afford what is basically a kei car but without the engine that makes sense econo-wise.
I want to put a 454 in a Widebody Manta B, Paint it Matte Black, Put a supercharger on and so much power it'll be undrivable, just so I have an absolute beast
Schmidt54 honestly I don’t like small cars either, what I miss are massive v8 rwd American sedan boats, they do better at everything than crossovers, even off-roading and interior space, and 2 door 8 foot bed pickups with a suspension so stiff you’ll develop arthritis by the time you’re 27 and you could repair dents with a hammer
I love my 73 Camaro, I am the second owner that I bought off my aunt for 500.00 and had it since 1997.
She turns heads wherever she goes and there's always some old dude that tells me a story about his high school days of owning one.
I'm a huge LS fan and my first "Regular Car Review" and this was hilarious.
