I understand the frugal part of getting a dress that you’ll only wear once, but why are they so mean to her?
Maybe they hate losing her income
The mom liked the first dress that added 50 pounds to her weight but hated the slimming second dress because it was salsa looking. who cares she looked very attractive in it. The 3rd dress was just okay. It did not make her look bigger, but it also did nothing for her.
So sad, some mothers are absolutely toxic. They don't deserve their daughters!!

There are times I want to say to the family "are you happy now? You made her cry."
The problem is they *are* happy making her cry. How else would they feel good about themselves or project on their negative feelings onto someone else?? Disgusting people.
So she says she wants hippie vintage and they put her in two fitted satin dresses? I would think the dress would be more lace, long, flowy, and light. With hanging beads or layers of lace or something. Lori literally was in her 20s in the 70s. She should know better!!

If someone told me they wanted hippie/vintage/flowy Goddess, I would put her in chiffon. It's the perfect fabric to walk barefoot in. Family puts her on display to laugh at her. That's mean hearted right to the core.
I would put her in a white cotton, flowing dress and flowers in her hair.

My heart broke with this young ladies tears. My mother was always about getting the cheapest. Seeing this mother do the same to her daughter, my heart just broke for her daughter.😢😢

Actually it all depends on where you live and what type of store you shop at. Where I live there are three types of stores where you could find used clothes. The first would be a thrift store which would probably be the cheapest but the quality might require some repairs or something. The second would be an antique store which does not always have any clothes to sell but if they did it would cost more than the thrift store. The third and last store would be a vintage clothing store. If she could find a hippie wedding dress anywhere it would be here but where I live it would probably cost more than twice as much as the wanted to spend. I remember once I went into a vintage clothing store to check it out. They had a sundress for sale that was exactly like a sundress that I had purchased 20+ years for under $30 only my sundress was green while the one they had for sale was pink. I immediately walked out of that store when I looked at the price tag and saw that they wanted I think it was almost $6000 although I’m not certain about anything except that it was more than $5000. For those who are curious to know that shop in question went out of business in less than ten years.

My being 67...I was actually around when the hippy's were & these dresses (& the fabrics they're made from) DON'T fit the era at all!
To fit the "vintage hippy" narrative, the dresses should be more flowing & natural fabrics were particularly"in"... especially for an outside, or beach wedding.
The only thing they got right was the headband & that would have been worn without a veil.
Agree I'm 65 I remember the era. Doubt the store would have had anything in linen or that light weight Indian cotton we wore but c'mon you should have at least tried a flowy chiffon. Lace and beading fine ruching umm no. Probably should have chosen a different store but she did look pretty in the one she chose
I was born in the 1960s so I don’t have a personal memory of the hippie style except for old television shows and magazines. The impression I got was that the hippie style was about getting back to nature and making things yourself. It’s my understanding that two crafts that were popular then were macrame and crochet. I have a hard time picturing a macrame wedding dress but I can see a crochet wedding dress looking lovely for a hippie wedding.
I think a better word for the dress she's looking for is boho. There's so many boho bride references on Pinterest.

I know a woman like that first mother. Cheap as the day is long because she needs her cash for the casino. She always thinks she’s funny with her insults and seems to feel better if someone else feels bad. I refused to do any more shopping with or for her.
I can imagine that if the bride was to say “I’ll be paying for the wedding dress myself with the money I’ve been saving up for it.” mother would have complained that she was being stingy and insisted that the bride give that money to her.

If you want vintage hippie on a budget, satin is not the vibe, and a vintage or thrift store would be a way better place to find the perfect dress. Thrift stores are a hidden treasure trove of dresses someone else wore only once, and who knows, you might find an actual hippie dress
But you’d have to pay more for the alterations, especially since the bride is plus size.
Well if she knows how to crochet the bride could have made her own vintage hippie wedding dress, which would have fitted in more with the theme as crochet was a popular craft during that time period.

I agree with you people should live within their means and not go into debt just to have some over the top wedding that they will be paying for years after the wedding. Personally if I was getting married and I could have my dream wedding dress it would be a dress that I knitted myself.

Right? I took my wedding dress to Goodwill(long story). It was an 800.00 Mori Lee. I went to the same Goodwill a few weeks later to get a Halloween costume, and the dress was still there. They were asking 120.00.

I think shes too hard on herself, but after listening to the family members she brought with her, it's no wonder she feels that way. They were very harsh with their opinions.

To me, the hippie dress was a very insignificant dress. But the bride and her entourage adored it, and that's all that matters. The second dress needed to be clipped tighter. 😐
I'm glad the first bride found her dress. Her mom and aunt sure found a way to cut her down along the way. Maybe they have seen this and feel some shame to draw their attention to finding a way to be more kind.
The African-American bride needs to be a size 2. She's just a bit thin. However, she looks like the first bride there that I would love to be friends with!
None of the dresses was actually elegant-hippie or hippie-chic, but actually, that style in general has become a bit too pricy and the bride was on a tight budget. The first and second dresses were actually awful and looked cheap, but the consultants created the look with the elements they had and within the budget.
If you/your groom can't afford the dress then you need to reevaluate a few things. No one else is responsible when it comes to financing your wedding.

Let's face it. In these days and prices, the only way you're gonna get a wedding dress for $500 is to have a friend or close relative who is an accomplished seamstress. For my first wedding dress, I threw a Butterick pattern and a few yards of embroidered georgette and satin at a friend and said, 'this is what I want". I wore a broad-brimmed hat with floral embellishments, an expensive pair of Italian leather cream colored pumps, a wrap-style dress that was just to below the knees and had a robe collar, 3/4 sleeves, and a big satin sash around the middle that tied in a big bow at the back, and felt like the most beautiful bride in the world. And have the pictures to prove it.
I’m so happy that you were able to get your dream wedding dress within your budget. I also love the videos on CZcams where the bride to be is able to make her own wedding dress either by sewing or crocheting. Personally if I was getting married I would like to wear a wedding dress that I had knitted myself.
