    Kyle and Jess I just discovered your videos on Panama. I’m traveling to Panama in February for three weeks with my sisters . I was stationed in the Army in the 1970s and early 80s . Panama City has changed. You’re video are a help thank you I’m following you

      I was stationed at Kobbe '89-91. I've been back to Panama many times since and planning to move back in 2023. You absolutely will not recognize Paitilla, Ave Balboa, Amador or many other places. Clayton is the only base on the Pacific side that has stayed pretty much the same. Big changes and expansions were done to Albrook and Howard (now known as Panama Pacifico).

    I am so glad you both are well and safe. No one in Panama take a taxi from the airport to Coronado. Technically you stamped a big Tourist sign in your forehead. The taxi driver charged you $100.00 bucks and that is reasonable. I took a taxi (a friend of friend taxi driver) from Chorrera to the airport and charged me $75.00.

    • @KyleJess
      @KyleJess  Před rokem +1

      Haha yes, we certainly learned that one the hard way! They tried charging us $140 to start, we then said "The guy down there said $100", he instantly said "Ok $100 is good".... Probably could have gotten a better rate and handled it differently for sure. But, hopefully this video helps others avoid that same trap 🙂🙌

    Crucially, cabs have to pay a licence that costs hundreds of dollars. Also, gas prices in Panama, as well as everywhere else, have increased to ridiculous levels so $100 - $140 from Tocumen to Coronado is not unreasonable. Uber do not have the same levels of insurance so I wouldn't use them in any event. Essentially, anyone can be an Uber driver, you have to pass a licence to be a taxi driver. Agree your fare BEFORE you get into the taxi.

    Another great video, really informative. We never tried the metro or the buses but they do look safe, clean and hard to beat that price! We rented a car when we were outside Panama City but that’s obviously the most expensive option (except maybe the taxi ripoff!). Now we know for next time. Thanks!

    • @KyleJess
      @KyleJess  Před 2 lety

      Yeah bus and train is the way to go in this country it seems. They have a very accessible bus system and the metro is ridiculously cheap to get around the city. Only thing we wish about it all, is that the bus system had a more clear and concise schedule online. It can be really hard to find what's happening where and when, or down right impossible haha, but we've managed to make it work and saved $100's on our trip by doing so.

      No, not really. It's an almost 2 hour drive from PTY to Coronado, then the driver has to come back empty to Panama City. The standard fare for 1-4 passengers is $120. And the fares are posted as you leave the arrival terminal, as well as on the airport website.

      From the airport in Orlando, Florida to international drive in Orlando cost over a $20 by taxi, but only two dollars by city bus and I was just fine on the city bus :) of course, if you have a big family or lost lots of luggage, that might be a different thing

      @KyleJess  Před 2 lety

      Hey Cherisse, we would make a quick clip to help you out, but doesn't look like we're going to be heading to the city again anytime soon. It's honestly quite easy though. Those terminals we pointed out in the metro station, they spit them right out for you. You can purchase them with cash or card. Some terminals are only for reloading the cards, so you may have come across those, but keep looking cause they are at every station and fairly easy to purchase once you find the right terminal. Hope the rest of our video was helpful for you though! 🙂

  • @ray7288
    @ray7288 Před 8 měsíci +1

    There is now an extension of the Metro direct to/from the airport, makes things a whole lot easier. Yes, the Rapid Pass is the best option - it does for all the Metro buses, the Metro and access to other buses at the terminal and the toilets! For travelling in and around the city - including the Canal visitor centre, the old ruined city of Panama Viejo and so on - the Metro buses are best, cheap and there's a free app you can use to find the right bus, and when the next one is due. I don't understand the taxi fares quoted, always agree the price beforehand and, best of all, have a Panamanian wife who doesn't mind haggling, and so avoid "gringo pricing".

  • @tracyjohnson4139
    @tracyjohnson4139 Před 10 měsíci +1

    I have never experienced in the 5 years I been coming there, first off the airport to the city standard is $30 and more you can say no and they reduce the price, next you can take line 2 go to the connected train which is line 1 then head down town then you can take a taxi to your hotel which is $2- $3 now rush hours prices go up if you are leaving the mall rush hour time, and from the airport to corronado is a long ride also the colon so taxi fare from airport would be $100 or more , but you can head to the terminal to catch a bus , bus ride now is $3 and change stop misleading people, and it is best to always pull up your destination on your phone to show the taxi or bus if you don't speak Spanish, so the taxi knows exactly where you are going.

    • @KyleJess

      Not that it’s illegal, but we don’t think the fares are regulated, if they were, they wouldn’t have negotiated… He knocked $40 off just by asking, so before you go, we’d suggest looking more into it is all. But pricing, definitely not regulated or the same for everyone

    1:10 - that’s what it costs exactly to from Tocumen airport to Coronado. $100-150.
    It’s 1.5 one way. Do the driver is out for 3 hours - consider his time, gas, and lost opportunity as he won’t be able to return to the airport and pick up new customers for at least 3-4 hours.

      We have just shared our experience, as when we first arrived, we found a lot of the transportation options to be confusing and hard to find information. So we hope that our experience would save some others some money and time. That being said, we aren't necessarily experts in the field of Panamanian transportation, nor claimed to be. We also had not complained about anything, especially not the $3 bus in El Valle. We just simply shared the information we learned along the way, and as you can see from the other comments, many other people have found it helpful and we hope they continue to.
