We will point out that there are a number of produce stands, in every town in Panama, that helps support local and tends to be a bit fresher, we strongly suggest looking for them when you come down. But are there any items we didn’t cover that you’re interested in the availability or cost of? Let us know in the comments here and we’ll do our best to answer. 🙂

Nice tour of El Rey. It's a great store. We do most of our "staple" shopping at Price Smart which is a trip about every 2 months. What Rey is great for is specialty kinds of foods. If one goes to the street vendors or farmer's market, one can can get great local veggies. In El Valle, they have a great farmers market, so lots of local produce. Same in Boquete area with the local Gringo market every Tue, fresh produce.

We're in the process of moving to Altos del Maria next month (cooler mountain community just 20 min up the road), and it's wild to see you guys shopping in what will be our "local" store - we were just in there a few weeks ago! Given the rate at which Coronado is growing, I really wouldn't be surprised to see a Pricesmart (which merged with Costco in 1993, but keeps the brand for Caribbean operations) open there within another year or two. Coronado is a "sprawl" location (no real "city center"), but certainly has LOTS to offer!

Ah that's so cool, best wishes to you on the new home! We hope it's a smooth transition for ya! Being we're from Western Canada, we definitely can appreciate cooler mountain towns, we specifically like the town of El Valle. We also agree, Coronado is a very spread out community with no real "downtown" just the shopping centres at the entrance. Which we can certainly see the appeal for some, but is an important fact to note. Thanks for reaching out! 🙂🙌

@@KyleJess - A town inside a crater? El Valle is totally awesome! There's a back road in Altos that puts it just 20 minutes away (a wild ride, but functional!), which is why we chose the spot we did - El Valle or Coronado in ~the same time... and Panama City is 30 minutes closer (on a "good" day). Hope to see you guys one day - keep havin' a BLAST!

Suppose it depends on where you’re coming from. Coming from Western Canada, almost half the price we were used to. Coming from other countries, I’m sure it could be quite pricey. There are amazing local markets and fruit stands to get better rates on produce and other foods, however we wanted to offer something that could be consistently expected across the country. Market prices tend to vary quite a bit, the grocery store chains a little more consistent. Good morning, Kyle Roberto Duran face and Jenn.😊 El Rey is a fantastic supermarket in Coronado, but you will pay A LOT MORE for imported frozen goods and American products. Try to buy local. For your vegetables and fruits go to the fruit stands along the Panamerican Highway and do business with the less fortunate folks....you will be supporting their families and building good relationships with very GOOD and LOVING Panamanians. El Rey was founded by a multimillionaire Greek family called Taguropolus, and they recently sold the chain, I was told. They have waaaaaaay too much money. Do not even set foot in a SUPER 99 that is owned by the Martinelli THIEVES that ALL belong in jail.
If you want to leave Coronado tonight and to to an EXCELLENT restaurant, I recommend "LOS CAMISONES" - The Chef there used to work for my grandmother in Panama City. We first visited the restaurant in 1989 with others who recommended the great food. They were correct. Food was great. Lobster croquettes...yummy...mahi mahi white sauce with shrimp .. exceptional. The service was great and the atmosphere really very pleasant. We took other friends there the week after. A real seafood gem.
Have a FUN and SAFE Saturday.
VIVA PANAMA - BTW - Maggi ketchup is delicious - it's sweet tasting (unless you purchase the picante variety) Cafe Duran sux. Next time buy Cafe Sitton.
