We entered the venue, Ivanhoe's, on the evening after the Pistols threw a special Xmas party for the striking firemans kids. Kinda of surreal seeing all the half eaten aluminum wrapped sandwiches when the evening gig started. However, it was an amazing night. I love John Lydon and he has been proven to be right about most things especially with regards to Jimmy Savile! He’s also right about the Sex Pistols story being filmed without his input. How can this be a credible project without the main man’s involvement? Yep I love John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten, but I do sometimes wonder if he tries too hard overdoing the older Johnny Rotten act at a now more senior age especially as he exploded his anti establishment credibility with me by doing that horrendous Country Butter advert; but of course that’s just my opinion. Yes time to drop the act now John because you have a lot of good things to say which we want to hear without the distraction of Johnny Rottens younger self constantly looking at us from over your shoulder.

      @@Wishful-Thinking John Lydon had many opportunities to be involved in this 'project' and didn't want to know, the fact that it is based on Steve's book and not his is the crux of the problem.

    • @Wishful-Thinking
      @Wishful-Thinking Před 2 lety

      @@Muirton66 I hear what your saying but surely without the involvement of ALL band members for whatever reason and especially without the involvement of the lead singer of a band who always will be the most important member of a group despite whatever anyone else says, and despite whatever great things other band members bring to the party, a project like this is always going to lack full credibility especially if they are still alive. I’m a life long Bowie fan since 1972 and whilst Bowie was mainly known as a solo artist so a slightly different scenario, but as the singer or main lead singer in a band and the main identity of a solo or group act any book or film about him is going to be lack credibility if Bowie himself as the singer and sound never had any actual input in whatever when he was alive. There are only two people alive today that can comment authentically on the artist known as David Bowie and not David Jones now he has sadly passed and that’s Tony Defries and Angie imho. In the case of the Pistols Lydon is still with us in the here and now so his input in this project about the most famous of punk bands is probably even more vital than the admittedly not quite the same Bowie example I’ve just given.

    • @Muirton66
      @Muirton66 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Wishful-Thinking The biopic is called 'Pistol' it's basically Steve Jones's life story based on his memoirs, it covers the years of 'the strand' and 'the swankers' long before John Lydon joined the band. Jones was very much involved in the project for obvious reasons, Cook has visited the set once and Matlock not at all. John Lydon had many opportunities to get involved long before the dates he claims he was first contacted and turned them down every time. This is all his own making I'm afraid.

    I watched two episodes last night. I had a roommate years ago who introduced me to the Sex Pistols and I thought he'd gone mad. He also introduced me to The Police. I'm grateful to him to this day for broadening my perspectives. I've got to say that it would be hard to cast somebody as Johnny Rotten, but I think the guy they got comes off a bit too unhinged. Lydon has always been precocious, aggressive, belligerent, but his intelligence and sensibility always came through. The series makes him - at first at any rate - look like he should probably be in an asylum or detox. The real Lydon was tweaking his nose at everybody and throwing them the finger, but he was coolly rational and extremely smart and kind hearted, and still is. The series makes him look a bit rabid. It's obvious that the book is by and about Steve Jones, who was, arguably, the least noteworthy person in the band (for good and bad reasons), but it reminds me of the original problem that they had filming the Freddy Mercury movie. The band members didn't want it to be about him, but about how the band persisted after he died. That's not what people want to see. Just as here, they want to see Sid and Johnny.
