I Spent the Day at a Scottish Estate in an 18th Century Gown

  • Huge Thanks to The National Trust for Scotland were kind enough to allow us to film my 18th Century Gown in Newhailes House, Musselburgh.
This Gown was made to portray Miss Christian Dalrymple of Newhailes House. As there are no known portraits of Miss Dalrymple, only a silhouette from 1830, this costume is based on research of Scottish Clothing in the late 18th Century and of Miss Dalrymple herself.
Miss Christian Dalrymple inherited the Newhailes House and estate in 1792. She remained unmarried until her death in 1838. It was quite unheard of at the time, to both remain unmarried, and be the heir to an estate. She was described as a socialite, entertaining guests several days a week. As the owner of Newhailes she managed several refurbishments including the Library roof.
Researching Miss Dalrymple, I found a window into Scottish History. Her journal and letters that she left behind, are important documents helping us understand history, especially the everyday stories. Having friends over for visits, enjoying music, and reading aloud from books was some of many activities she enjoyed. History is not all battles and great achievements, though they are important too, but also the little things, people’s humanity, their quirks, and their thoughts.
“It is largely thanks to Miss Christian’s cautious management, careful vision and important legacy that so little was lost at Newhailes right up to the Trust’s taking over in 1997” - NTS Newhailes

    - scoping the background for any paranormal activity - Lovely, I liked this. It's interesting to see a person walking through. It puts things into perspective.

Whole video I kept thinking you looked like queen Elizabeth 1. Not sure if it was the intention, but it’s beautiful!
