    I was gonna upgrade from AM4 got 5800x3d and the same 6950 as you have or had also watercooled. Got it for 400 lol But the problem is it feels just like the start of ryzen again. Half baked features silly expensive boards missing stuff the mid tier boards have, slow mem training less ram compatibility. This is the other silly thing they go all in on the inductors and vrms but the new chip require less wattage so it shows their priority's are skewed. Also cheers for that 6950 teardown and waterblock install videos It really helped me.

      A big advantage with a new generation of hardware is those price cuts on the previous generation, especially with the 6950 XT and premium AM4 boards.

      @upyermaw2732 Yeah, I recently picked up a 5800X3D for my gaming rig, just cause I wanted that proven reliability. To be fair, re: the power delivery, some of the bigger chips can be pretty thirsty.
      But, it might be people are just expecting that kind of thing now. It's good for hardcore overclockers, which most of are not, which is why I initially looked at lesser boards, but it seems I needed the OC boards to get the features I wanted.

      @SirChristoferus oh yeah, that's for sure. Anyone looking to upgrade their AM4 rig, is laughing right now.

      @kristiqndimitrow7969 Ohh, good to know, I'll have to look into that. I havent' wanted to mess with the system now that it's up and running, cause I use it to edit, and I didn't want to risk a crappy bios update.

    I was also a little upset about the SPDIF, but HDMI bitstream audio passthrough worked perfectly for me. X670e has minimum requirements, but a lot of motherboards tried to do their market segmentation thing, so they can charge a ton more. The ProArt probably has the best PCIe breakout unless you want to spend ~$1k.

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah I didn't think of using the audio adapter till after. Ironically, the audio on this board is unreliable, so after all that fuss I'm thinking of getting a sound card.
      Meanwhile, I did notice, if I was willing to go B650, that ProArt board has everything I wanted.

    "Actually Hardcore Overclocking" YT channel does mobo roundups everytime a new platform comes out, he's OC focus'd with a side of must have lots of USB but well worth watching.
    Asrock PG Lighting is worth a look for those on a budget. And the X670E Steel Legend has a SPDif and dual LAN.

      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci

      Yeah I'm familiar with that channel. I've watched a few vids.
      I was looking at the ASrock boards but they didn't have T sensor inputs, which was a huge no go for me.

      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci

      I think so. I did look into an HDMI adapter. I only really thought of it after the fact.
      Ironically, the sound on this board is unreliable and I'm seriously consider a sound card.
      It's like I should of just gotten a board that doesn't have Optical Out.

    man... i'm still running on my 3900x, bought on the day of release... and i'm looking at the trends and how things are going and i am almost praying, that this cpu will suffice for another couple of years... cause market is trash. recently upgraded my dearest's rig to 5700x. not a powerhouse anymore but... it spins well. if i compare the single core performance - 5700x wins. if all-core - 3900x wins. but then i look at the prices of each and... "me no liky"

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I think you'll be ok for a while yet. I built this system for my editing rig, but for gaming I used my old parts, but got a 5800X3D. Even with my older 3700x and 3950X games were running great. I even tried a 5700G and it was great. IF you feel like upgrading you could try the 5800X3D to max out your rig if it's for gaming. Unless you need the cores, then heck, 5900X, or with the AM4 prices as they are, a 5950X even.

      @@Xamiakass I've found a lot of games these days are more GPU limited than anything else. Many CPU's themselves are already fast enough if your target is 60fps.
      I havent' noticed, some games might be starting to break the 16gb barrier for ram however.
      Seems we might be finally looking at a 32gb future.

    Hey bud, you should probably consider a script there bud... haha
    Recently got a laptop, 12700H and 3060 and boy oh boy, BSOD at least 3 times a day. Driver verifier issues. Son of a! Definitely returning this thing and going for a different platform, thinking 7640HS would be a great CPU, RDNA 3 with lots of decode/encode hardware on the CPU. Seems like Nvidia has been dropping the ball on their software a lot lately, hopefully the 4050 in this upcoming laptop does better than the 3 series. Nothing is simple in this space, it's been getting silly.
    Side note, why aren't you using interfaces? I left SPDIF long ago for proper musician interfaces and it's been going great. Got a new Zoom handheld coming with 32 bit float plus the Rodecaster Duo which is pretty powerful

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci

      Used laptop ? a new one should be acting like that.
      I use a Zoom recorder for filming, but on my PC I do nothing on it that requires an interface. I don't record music. I just need a good audio out, and traditionally the higher end Asus boards I've always used have met my needs well.

      I have to say my last attempt at using SPDIF out to an amp and speakers was a major disappointment and I've been much happier with interfaces and monitor speakers, it just sounds so much better to my ear 🤷‍♂️

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@KPGuitarStudios Oh maybe, it's assumed an interface will have good D/A's.
      That said, using spdif, it's up to that amps D/A's. If it's a good amp, you get good sound.
      Cheap amp, you might as well use the analog stock out.

      @@KPGuitarStudios Must be a good monitor. Which is weird, cause I didn't think serious monitors had speakers anymore. And the ones in TV's now days, only good enough to tie you over till you can get a "sound bar" like all the kids are using these days.

    AM5 motherboards prices are absolutely ridiculous. Overpriced af, especially ASUS. I am gonna skip AM5 all together.

    • @DATT
      @DATT  Před 9 měsíci

      Well, idk about skipping it, but it's early. Bound to level out. And if AM5 is anything like AM4, they will be using that socket for a while, making it unskippable assuming you upgrade in the future at some point using AMD.
      At least if it is a good board it could be an investment for a while. I wonder if that's what they are banking on.
      Not like future options won't just be the same price or more . . .
