LOL. I knew a kid who was very well versed in coin mastery. There were grown ass adults that were calling him the devil, black magic beholder etc. I also stepped in to tell them about the trick, but the smile on the kids face... haha, I couldn't ruin that for him. I wonder if that kid got into magic biz... he was really gifted when it came to coin tricks. I seen the kid stack 5 ten dollar quarter rolls side by side and had a random bystander to check and make sure the rolls were not opened. He then told the guy to stack the rolls how ever he wanted to, as long as one end of any one of those rolls touched the surface of a table. The bystander stacked the rolls individually side by side. Then the kid suddenly accused him of stealing his quarters. Flabbergasted, the bystander pulled his pockets and showed others that he didn't take any quarters. Then the kid told him to take a closer look at the rolls of quarters (which the guy just stacked seconds ago), and the quarters were gone, only had the paper rolls stacked. Basically, some how the kid was able to literally take out all the quarters without ripping the roll paper or even touching the stacked rolls in matter of seconds.
teaching effects is one thing, exposing is another. blatant exposure of a marketed effect requiring special props is another. Greg, I know this is from 2008 but you still make The Masked Magician look like a saint. there is no benefit to anyone viewing this video except if they own the effect an need a video performance - an unentertaining performance but a performance nonetheless. you rank among the 12 year olds on CZcams doing the latest David Blaine/Criss Angel trick they learned 10 minutes prior to recording it on video.

what is the point of you buying the trick , showing it once to people - then telling them how it was done , rending the trick useless because you cant show it again because you told them how you did it
I mostly agree with everyone up until Steven Goodman who posted 3 years ago. He has the equipment and felt inspired to break it out and do it for someone. If anything I would think your presentation not only uninspiring, but a hint that any of the nearly 7 million viewers of this might be among those to whom Steve tries to perform. Unlike the old days (I am old enough to vaguely remember), when magicians guarded their secrets, sharing them only with worthy fellows. Recognized fellow magicians who would put in the time (and not just money) to learn, privately practice the technique, perfect their own personal routine and script, and then present it to the local magic fraternity for critique before doing the trick for a general public lay audience; after which, they got a much bigger positive response than you, Greg, likely will ever receive doing the old "Scotch & Soda" (the official name for the coin set of tools) in a way anything close to what you did in this video. As for exposure to the general public (as here) in contrast to those interested enough in magic to put in the time and money to go to a reputable magic shop in their local area; If the shop is a good one, they will not sell something the customer is not ready for. Start with beginner basics, things which if the newbie messes up, it becomes a learning experience for them only, since their audience often consists of those who have seen the old trick before. Some will bust the beginners, some will fake it and praise them if they did it rather well and encourage them to keep learning more. Either way, the newbie will begin to know what works and how to avoid being caught. They may also discover how to make old beginner tricks new and fresh in their own style. Like old stale jokes people generally do not like seeing tricks for which they know "the punch line." Once the newbie gets some experience, a good shop owner will not only sell them the better effects, but take the time to take them aside and teach them the right ways to do the effect and suggest ways they can develop their own routines for what they have now invested a greater amount of money. They will also help them to learn to respect the secret. PEOPLE LIKE MAGIC that fools and entertains them; leave out either one of these and all you have accomplished is to create another person that never wants to see another magician or trick ever again. It is kind of like your long winded tirade and unnecessary exposure to the general public of this trick, which, by the way, fortunately IS NOT the BEST COIN TRICK in the WORLD. However, it is one that it is impolite, improper, and ill advised to tip (unless and even if, you Greg are an unscrupulous sales person for the gimmicks hoping someone will buy from you not understanding you have already devalued them by exposure). And, for those reading this, but mostly if Greg reads all of this comment, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO WADE THROUGH over extended long comments like these. "Pay back is . . . " what you make it.

There's too many hacks in here attempting to get cheap laughs with very dumb one-liners. Mr. Solomon is actually a very interesting gentleman that many people find intriguing to listen to.
As a former magic shop owner, I can tell you that I sold the instructions and, when necessary, props for magic effects to those who wanted to perform them. I also worked with them and have pointers not in any instruction sheet. On many occasions I declined to sell to people who had more dollars than sense and just wanted to buy a secret. Today I give secrets away freely to those who show a desire and commitment to perform. Knowing the secrets of magic is not some kind of perq to being a magician. Is the real price that we pay so that we can do what we do. This guy clearly has some beef with magicians. Sometimes I do too, but I don't think he really understands the best of us. He also doesn't understand what a performance is if he calls that technical demonstration of scotch and soda a "performance". No hate for the guy, just wish he understood.
This is a good trick, Greg. The comments are correct, however. You speak very slow and with a deep voice. My Dad is a Ph.D. psychologist and he uses this to hypnotize people - speaking slow and deep and usually matching their breathing rate. You might create a video teaching others how to hypnotize with your method.

There were grown ass adults that were calling him the devil, black magic beholder etc. I also stepped in to tell them about the trick, but the smile on the kids face... haha, I couldn't ruin that for him. I wonder if that kid got into magic biz... he was really gifted when it came to coin tricks.
I seen the kid stack 5 ten dollar quarter rolls side by side and had a random bystander to check and make sure the rolls were not opened. He then told the guy to stack the rolls how ever he wanted to, as long as one end of any one of those rolls touched the surface of a table. The bystander stacked the rolls individually side by side. Then the kid suddenly accused him of stealing his quarters. Flabbergasted, the bystander pulled his pockets and showed others that he didn't take any quarters. Then the kid told him to take a closer look at the rolls of quarters (which the guy just stacked seconds ago), and the quarters were gone, only had the paper rolls stacked.
Basically, some how the kid was able to literally take out all the quarters without ripping the roll paper or even touching the stacked rolls in matter of seconds.
The only trick here is turning 25 seconds of content into a 9 min video
teaching effects is one thing, exposing is another. blatant exposure of a marketed effect requiring special props is another. Greg, I know this is from 2008 but you still make The Masked Magician look like a saint. there is no benefit to anyone viewing this video except if they own the effect an need a video performance - an unentertaining performance but a performance nonetheless. you rank among the 12 year olds on CZcams doing the latest David Blaine/Criss Angel trick they learned 10 minutes prior to recording it on video.

This video was posted about 12 years ago (as of the time I posted this comment) and people are STILL complaining about how boring it is, and how long-winded the magician is! I agree with those observations, but hey, give the guy a break. He's a magician...... He's probably not an expert videographer like 90 percent of the people leaving comments apparently are. Maybe by now, the has learned how to post short, interesting YT videos. And maybe not, but he is giving his time and his expertise away for FREE so that you shmucks can learn a cool illusion. I've had this illusion for about 20 years and if I remember correctly it's called "Scotch & Soda" because it was a bar trick made for a Magician and that was his favorite drink. It really works very well and people are so surprised when they open their hand and see a quarter!

what is the point of you buying the trick , showing it once to people - then telling them how it was done , rending the trick useless because you cant show it again because you told them how you did it
I mostly agree with everyone up until Steven Goodman who posted 3 years ago. He has the equipment and felt inspired to break it out and do it for someone. If anything I would think your presentation not only uninspiring, but a hint that any of the nearly 7 million viewers of this might be among those to whom Steve tries to perform. Unlike the old days (I am old enough to vaguely remember), when magicians guarded their secrets, sharing them only with worthy fellows. Recognized fellow magicians who would put in the time (and not just money) to learn, privately practice the technique, perfect their own personal routine and script, and then present it to the local magic fraternity for critique before doing the trick for a general public lay audience; after which, they got a much bigger positive response than you, Greg, likely will ever receive doing the old "Scotch & Soda" (the official name for the coin set of tools) in a way anything close to what you did in this video.
As for exposure to the general public (as here) in contrast to those interested enough in magic to put in the time and money to go to a reputable magic shop in their local area; If the shop is a good one, they will not sell something the customer is not ready for. Start with beginner basics, things which if the newbie messes up, it becomes a learning experience for them only, since their audience often consists of those who have seen the old trick before. Some will bust the beginners, some will fake it and praise them if they did it rather well and encourage them to keep learning more.
Either way, the newbie will begin to know what works and how to avoid being caught. They may also discover how to make old beginner tricks new and fresh in their own style. Like old stale jokes people generally do not like seeing tricks for which they know "the punch line."
Once the newbie gets some experience, a good shop owner will not only sell them the better effects, but take the time to take them aside and teach them the right ways to do the effect and suggest ways they can develop their own routines for what they have now invested a greater amount of money. They will also help them to learn to respect the secret. PEOPLE LIKE MAGIC that fools and entertains them; leave out either one of these and all you have accomplished is to create another person that never wants to see another magician or trick ever again.
It is kind of like your long winded tirade and unnecessary exposure to the general public of this trick, which, by the way, fortunately IS NOT the BEST COIN TRICK in the WORLD. However, it is one that it is impolite, improper, and ill advised to tip (unless and even if, you Greg are an unscrupulous sales person for the gimmicks hoping someone will buy from you not understanding you have already devalued them by exposure).
And, for those reading this, but mostly if Greg reads all of this comment, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO WADE THROUGH over extended long comments like these. "Pay back is . . . " what you make it.

There's too many hacks in here attempting to get cheap laughs with very dumb one-liners. Mr. Solomon is actually a very interesting gentleman that many people find intriguing to listen to.

As a former magic shop owner, I can tell you that I sold the instructions and, when necessary, props for magic effects to those who wanted to perform them. I also worked with them and have pointers not in any instruction sheet. On many occasions I declined to sell to people who had more dollars than sense and just wanted to buy a secret. Today I give secrets away freely to those who show a desire and commitment to perform. Knowing the secrets of magic is not some kind of perq to being a magician. Is the real price that we pay so that we can do what we do. This guy clearly has some beef with magicians. Sometimes I do too, but I don't think he really understands the best of us. He also doesn't understand what a performance is if he calls that technical demonstration of scotch and soda a "performance". No hate for the guy, just wish he understood.

This is a good trick, Greg. The comments are correct, however. You speak very slow and with a deep voice. My Dad is a Ph.D. psychologist and he uses this to hypnotize people - speaking slow and deep and usually matching their breathing rate.
You might create a video teaching others how to hypnotize with your method.
Im gonna watch this video every time i cant sleep.
