Should be stated in this video that 'Mix Minus' in the Podcast app is currently restricted to a max 24-bit. Disappointing to find that out after hearing about the wonders of recording in 32-bit float.
Mix Minus / a loop back function needs to be added to other modes/apps too such as Manual for DAW input effects monitoring - not just direct monitoring. Doesn't seem possible without causing a feedback loop according to the manual.
The Zoom F3 has 'Loop Back' input monitoring functionality in 32-bit float, so I don't understand why the Portacapture X8 can't do this too in 32-bit?
Tascam we need native timecode that works with deity or tentacle devices.
This is the first field recorder that I’m considering buying in years. Looks and sounds great. Only issue for me, since I am considering recording sound design stuff at high sample rates is the ultra-high frequency noise that was reported by a few CZcamsrs when the device came out… Has this issue been fixed in the meantime?! 🙏
I'm in the same boat, this needs to be addressed. I don't dare to buy it until I know it will be fixed.

oh my goodness that background is SO annoying and produces high anxiety - the repetitive nature is grinding on my nerves..... PLEASE make better choices in the future!

@TASCAM Official Hi, I'm liking the X8, but I do agree with BJamminSinceBirth, having channel out routing options would make it a great usb audio interface. A lot of ios apps only have a two channel option. Being able to have different channel options for the headphones and line out would make it a "real" usb audio interface. For example, maybe options, channel 3-4 for the headphones and 5-6 for the line out. I know when I connect my focusrite, it automatically works with Bandlab (while using effects and input monitoring), but the X8 gets robotic artifacts and bad feedback. I know I can use other apps and utilities, but this would be a great feature to have right within the X8. Thanks.
Any plans for ambisonic support?
I had several problems yesterday after update X8 1.33. Touch of X8 was crazy without control after turn off the problem stopped
The issue is I can’t hear my recording as it’s being recorded because Tascam software doesn’t allow the output to be routed to the headphone and or line out. This is not good for actual audio interface recording. If you try to run the daw out back into the X8 it will be recorded into the main recording.
Please fix that. That’s not normal.
Hello! It sounds like you have some of the inputs on the X8 set to USB, which would in turn route the USB audio back into the recording. You may also have the settings on your computer set to "2-channel" instead of "8-channel". By using the "2-channel" option (on a MacBook this is in the Audio/MIDI setup panel) you're summing all the channels of the Portacapture down to just two channels instead of truly tracking a multi-track session.
We can help you troubleshoot this, but we need more in-depth information. What app on the X8 are you using? What sort of device are you recording to (phone, tablet, computer) and what OS are you using? What DAW or audio recording software are you using for recording?

@@TASCAMUSA What does all this have to do with the fact that the sound coming from the daw doesn’t play out of the PortaCapture X8 though the headphone/line out on the X8? That’s the issue. It’s not getting sound into the daw. The issue is it doesn’t playback through the PortaCapture X8.

Unfortunately that is how the interface works, you will need to use 2 inputs of the Portacapture for the USB return to hear your DAW playback. You could set the USB to be channels 5 and 6 on the Tascam and then set the channels 1-4 to be the XLR inputs or a mix of the internal mics and the XLR inputs so that you can have 4 channels recording into your DAW and not record what is playing back from your DAW.
The problem is I can’t listen to my recording while recording if I route this device this way. It will bleed into the sound or I would have to mute that input and forfeit listening to the sound while recording.
The routing should automatically go to the headphone out or the Line out on the PortaCapture. I shouldn’t have to route any channels. That’s not plug n play.

Hi there, I'm only getting input tracks 1 or 2 to record in Pro tools. The input on the X8 is going into 3 but in Pro tools it will only read if I change the input to either 1 or 2. The X8 does read it on track 3. I just want to know how to separate all the tracks in Pro tools. I know PT is seeing the individual tracks because when you go to change the input it shows 1-6(although shouldn't it show 1-8?). I had a Zoom H6, which I traded in & bought the X8 & if something was running to input 3 on the H6 all I had to do is change the input to 3 in pro tools and it would read it. I'm using a MSI Summit E13 Flip Evo 13.4" FHD+ 120hz Touch 2 in 1 Business Laptop: Intel Core i7-1260P Iris Xe 32GB LPDDR5 1TB NVMe SSD, 360-Degree Flip, Thunderbolt 4, MSI Pen, Win 11 Pro: Ink Black A12MT-013 and the latest version of Pro tools with your X8. I'm using the X8 in manual mode & not that it matters but the audio source running into 3 on the X8 is coming from an Akai MPC live2. Thanks in advance.
Is there a way to name recorded files or the new user presets on the X8? Like a QWERTY, cellphone-type keyboard? It’s the only field recorder with a screen like this so I’m hoping it’s possible

Hello, Awan. The Portacapture X8 is not supported as an audio device for Android phones.
However, with the AK-BT1, the Portacapture series is supported for Bluetooth control on on such devices.
If Tascam reduce the price arround 300$ then it will be the market king. Zoom will struggling a lot. I think tascam will take a decision.
How can I synchronize timecode on my camera - Nikon Z6II to the Portacapture X8 recorder?
Hello! In order to synch timecode between your camera and your Portacapture X8, you'll need the AK-BT1 Bluetooth dongle for the X8 and an Atomos AtomX SYNC / UltraSync BLUE supported device. Below is a link to a great video that explains it all in depth:

Still struggling with one of my Windows computers not getting any input from the Tascam X8. It shows up, I can send sound from my computer to the X8 over USB but not the other way around. This issue has been there for 1+ year at this point and no solution has been posted so far.
Hello! Two things:
1.) have you installed the Portacapture X8 drivers from the website? This is required on Windows machines. And,
2.) Have you tried calling our customer support team? They're tech savvy and are quick to respond - be it email or by phone, they're here to help.
@@TASCAMUSA Hi, I've done countless driver uninstall/reinstalls, it doesn't work unfortunately and I'm not the only person with this issues. It works fine on my laptop however which is why this is so weird.
2. I'm in Germany and I've contacted Tascam support but despite several follow ups from my side I haven't gotten any message back for more than 5 months(!). I've recently updated my firmware again, even tried a friends' X8 and still face the same issues. Audio gets sent to the X8 but the audio from the X8 inputs doesn't get sent to my PC.

I was updating the firmware of the Tascam Portacapture X8 while on USB power, and the cable got disconnected during the process.
Now the device is not switching on at all.
I there any way to factory reset it?
Hello! If the power was interrupted while updating the firmware unfortunately that may have corrupted the system's software. I would suggest having the unit looked at by a service technician or having the unit exchanged - if that's possible - through the dealer you bought it from.
that is a poor design, the update should be fully atomic in nature, either it fully succeeds or it doesn't. That's been an accepted best practice for at least 10 years.
@@michaelliuzzi we aren't quite sure what you mean by "atomic in nature", but this exact set of circumstances is pretty much the standard to expect from literally any digital device, be it for audio or otherwise.
In regard to firmware updates, the manual states "be careful not to let the power be interrupted during the update" and "the unit might become unstartable if the power is interrupted or an SD card is loaded or removed during an update."
This is why we have cautioned against this. As stated before, please have the unit looked at by a service technician or try having the Portacapture X8 exchanged.
@@TASCAMUSA That's not true. A robust update process can be implemented in a few ways, but one such case would use separate partitions, verify the new image, and then boot into it.
Does this have overdub?

Hello! Yes, the Portacapture X8 has an overdub feature in the Manual App.
@@fanyuan7000 Initially the feature was called "Punch I/O", but the name was changed to Overdub with a firmware update.
Just purchased the product and am unable to connect to my P C, even after I purchased the Tascam cables kit. The device shows up as DRIVE E, OR F. How do I correct this issue?

As usual when companies launhes new software, they forget to test i probably for fails! 👎
In the 1.30 firmware update, the reverb has disappeared when I try to video record through the USB-C port and in to my smartphone. When I hit the video rocord botton on my smartphone there is sound coming out, but no reverb.
On smartphones with Android 12 theres no sound at all, when I hit the video record button on my android phone. Please make a new update soon so us with Android 12 can use the Tascam Portacapture x8 again to video record 😉👍
Hello Michael. The Portacapture X8 isn't supported for Android devices. We've just tried the functionality on additional devices, but we couldn't recreate the trouble with the reverb. In order to help, we'll need a little more information.
What kind of device are you recording to, the Android device, or something else? What app(s) are you using when connected to that device? What recording software are you attempting to use?

In the discription for the firmware 1.30 i says that the Tascam software is compatible with Android 11. ??? And yes the Tascam Portacapture x8 is compatible with Android devices.
I'll try to explanie as good as I can.
First the 1.20 firmware:
When I opened the music app i could connect the Tascam Portacapture x8 with my Samsung galaxy s21 ultra through the USB-C port and in to the USB-C port in my smartphone. Then when I hit the video record button on my smartphone the sound from the inbuilt x-y stereo microphones came directly into the video included the reverb function.
That was so genius, because i could make videos and very god sound without mixing it in another program on the computer. So sound from the Tascam Portacapture x8 and video in the one an same recording. 😉👍
And I use the standard kamera/video app the phone is Bourne with
The new 1.30 firmware update:
On smartphones with Android 10 og 11 there is sound, but no reverb when you video record from your smartphone, and are connected through the USB-C port.
On smartphones with Android 12 there is no sound at all when you are connected through the USB-C port

And why does everybody says that the Tascam Portacapture x8 is not compatible with Android devices, when it worked very fine in the 1.20 firmware version. Recording/video/reverb everything!
@@MichaelErbs Hello! Recording from the Portacapture X8 to an Android device is not supported. As we tried to explain to you on Facebook, the only thing supported for Android use with the Portacapture X8 is the control app software. Also, saying something is "not supported" is not saying the same thing as "not compatible". When the X8 was designed, it was not designed to be used for recording audio into an Android device. If the Android device uses some of the same protocols as devices that are supported, then you can possibly get limited success with recording. However, we cannot guide you or troubleshoot the X8 on an Android device.
Again, the Portacapture X8's control software is supported for Android devices, but recording is not.
