For anyone using a PC. You will have to download the ASIO Driver for the Portacapture X8 here: www.tascam.eu/en/downloads/Portacapture%2BX8
First step with USB is not necessary. The way you set up 1-2 channels as INPUT not Output as you said, has nothing to do with seeing X8 as audio interface with all 8 channels visible. Approach with setting 1-2 ch as USB has only sense if you want to send something from your computer to tascam and record it on it.
Nice one! I will note that one down and may be of help to other viewers. Cheers ArtDonHobby!
@@rarefindssoundhow to monitoring the sound from output from PC without making 1-2 channel as a USB input on tascam? I wish I could send the 6 inputs on an pc and get the 1 and 2 out from in on headset
Really helpful tips on the inputs and channels! Saved me a lot of time, thank you ☺
Nice one! Happy to help
You're awesome, man. Post more of tascam x8 used as Audio interface, as there are no videos of it on CZcams, you'll get more views, and you'll help more people like me.
Hey yashazare, thanks very much! Unfortunately I don't have the recorder anymore else I would! Maybe I'll try the X6 as well when I'm back in the UK
@@rarefindssound oh yeah that'd be agreat idea
I'll try and remember to sort something out when i return 😊
Also, I haven't been able to use it as output with a non DAW software like Discord. Do you know of a way? And could you illustrate it on the video?
Thanks for this video. It saved the day before I suffered the confusion of selecting the input channel on a daw.😁
Thank you… this is from great value for all of us portacapture users🙏never was able to figure it out…
Thanks Daniel. Glad it helped!
Thank you so much!!!! Being a total newb I couldn't get this damn thing to work and now it does! Tascam should have made this a bit clearer and you deserve a medal and cash😂
Haha thanks very much!
Thank you. This video solved my problem: I did not know track ASIO channels are not numbered the same as the input channel numbers on the X8... What a mess :)
Glad it helped! Yeah I found that really confusing too
This is so helpful, thank you! I've been trying to dial in sound with my handpan and connecting directly is so much more efficient
Spot on, glad it helped!
Great job! Setting this up was complicated.
Cheers for watching Frank :)
Amazing! Thank you for sharing such valuable knowledge! Hats off!
My pleasure!
thanks for this. Its crazy that they don't have this input chart at 4:24 on their site at all, so confusing
Great tutorial, Ollie! Thanks for sharing!
No worries! Hope it helps
Thanks it was straight forward and on point saved me allot of time.
No worries! Glad it helped you out
@@rarefindssound ty, I still couldn't get the firm ware updated because my PC just doesn't want to see the drive but the ASIO drivers are installed and it works, thank you
thank u for your video!
Cool!!!
Thanks!
Das it possible to use some inputs as outputs?..fot audio monitots?..
Do you know pc8 working with ipad ios?…i wandering to use it with AUM ( audiomixer) ..in Ipad..
No, I believe you will have to use either the Line Out or Headphone 3.5mm outputs if you're going to monitors.
Yeah I have seen some videos online of people using the x8 with an iPad. I unfortunately don't have an iPad to show a demonstration.
If you have garage band, the Tascam x8 should show up when changing your driver
@@rarefindssound thank you!
You're awesome man, i wish i watched this tutorial earlier. actually It at least took me a couple of days to figure out how this recorder using as audio interface .😂
Haha glad I could help!
Thanks. Good to know. Is it possible to USB connect the stereo mix to a Samsung Android phone?
Hi MaskedMarble. Unfortunately I don't really know. I don't have a Samsung phone or the Tascam anymore. Possibly try asking on the Tascam FAQ page?
I need to transfer the recording from the Tascam to my Samsung S23 phone???
You could try a micro SD card reader and plug that into your phone. Then transfer it like that 🤔 . Failing that I would say plug the Tascam into a computer, copy the files over then send them to your phone from the computer
Thank you
You're welcome 🤗
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I assume the SD Media card does not need to be in the X8 for usb computer recording?
Hey Rick. No, you won't need an SD card. It records into the computers DAW not onto the Tascam.
Well done! Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
I use my tascam to capture audio from my wireless DJI Mic. Trying to get the best of both worlds with 32-bit flow point audio as well as wireless transmission. Unfortunately I'm getting some horrible static from the top to Mics. I've also had a number of recordings where the input for the microphone was also noisy
Interesting 🤔 maybe they are picking up interference from the wireless microphone? Sometimes microphones can pick up RF interference. I had troubles with the Rode Ntg5 and RF interference. Maybe trial and error would help your problem. Try variations of the setup till you get the weird static and you might find out what's causing it
@@rarefindssound yeah I ended up resetting the tascam and it fixed the issues. Sad to say I recorded about 15 videos with horrible audio... Without even realizing it. Rushing around way too much
Ah, that’s a shame. A lot of recording and filming can be a matter of trial and error
@@rarefindssound I noticed people saying that you can use the other ports as auxiliary ports as well? When I plug a mic in it will not allow to use the top two ports as 3.5 mm inputs.
Any idea how to turn off the input audio so direct monitoring from the daw fx can be used without the device audio coming through?
Hey Shayne, unfortunately I don’t have the recorder anymore so I can’t check for you. What DAW are you using?
I figured it out. You go into the mixer tab and turn down the output to zero on the output. Then it only uses the audio from the DAW. Had to call Tascam in that one.
I'm guessing this will be the same if I want to use it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max?
I’m not 100% sure as I no longer have the Tascam X8. I’m assuming it’ll be similar to setting it up with an iPad. But can’t be certain
Thank you… this is from great gob!
Glad to have helped!
Hey thanks for the video it really helped just a quick Question
Can tascam x8 connects with studio Monitors is the any way we can connect studio monitors in the remaining input as 2 studio monitor Outputs
It would be really helpful if someone can answer this thank in advance 😊
Hey, I'm not 100% sure. Unfortunately I don't have the recorder anymore so I can't test for you
Can I use this as expanded inputs for my Apollo x4 somehow?
Hi, I'm not 100% sure. I don't have the Tascam X8 anymore
So useful - thanks
Nice one, glad it helped Mike
Tks for the help. If I want to get signals from all 4 xlr is posible ??
Yes that will be possible
Have you ever tried using the built in noise gate or compressor/expander?
Was thinking of using this for on the go podcast interviews usually would bring laptop to run some FX wondering if the recorder can just help make my life easier.
Heya, I've not tried that. I don't have the unit with me anymore so unfortunately I can't do an experiment for you
Cheers!
No problem!
Hi Rare Finds,
Could you please tell me how to record voice in Davinci Resolve using only the Tascam as an external microphone "1&2" (without using any other external microphone)?
Note: my MacBook pro doesn't even recognize the Tascam that I conet with an usbc cable.
Thanks in advance!
Heya! It might be possible that you need to install a driver for it to work. Or change the audio driver in davinci resolve so it inputs & outputs the audio from davinci through your Tascam. Unfortunately I don’t own the Tascam recorder anymore so am not an awful lot of help, sorry.
Thank you for replying!! 🙌
You can use built-in microphones to record audio without a need of extra mic! Instead of chose input 1&2 as USB, choose 3&4 or 5&6. Now besides PCX8 work as an interface, it’s also a microfone!
Thank you!
Perfect! Really helpful as I was confused, as well! Thank you!!
Glad it helped!
Does 32bit float actually work when using it as an interface for the computer?
Yes, it does! But you must set it on your DAW and turn it on in your portacapture driver
@@elizeusantos93 OK thank you! The software I use to record, called obs or open broadcast software also can record 32bit float!
@@DigIntoGaming Oh! That’s is a good one! You can also record in Tascam and edit it Davinci Resolve, Cakewalk, UAD Luna as well
hello Friend, thanks for your tutorial! I have one question, on my Tascam, to see visible "signs of life" I need to press REC ones, then, the potentiometers starts to move. Without pressing REC, TASCAM shows no activity in mixer. Same after plug in via USB, MAC is not hearing him (thou see him), and after I press REC and red diod is starting to blink, suddenly it works correctly... that is weird, can you help please...? :)
OK LOL I solved this - some stupid REC pause option...
Hey, I'm not sure what's going on there. My best bet would be to contact customer support and see if they can exchange your recorder for a new one
@@rarefindssound thanks for your reply - it was REC Pause in the Tascam options that was responsible for this behavior, now everything is fine :) all best!
Aaah classic! Nice to hear it's working!
How is the output round trip latency on the x8?
Heya Eric. I'm not 100% sure. I don't have the Tascam anymore so unfortunately can't check for you
Can you not use the x8 as the main microphone to record music , like vocals I’m a rapper
Yes I believe you can. I would suggest rapping into just 1 of the inbuilt microphones so the recording is Mono not Stereo for your vocals
What about the ultrasonic noise at 96/192? Does it affect your recordings?
Hi Petru, yes i have seen the Ultrasonic Noise when i view my recordings in Adobe Audition. I may run into some issues with it when i pitch down recordings but haven't used recordings from the device to do much processing with yet. I think it might crop up in a future video.
It is a bit of a shame that we are still having this issue with the device but 🤞 it will be resolved soon.
In regards to keeping the Tascam x8 i think the pros outweigh the cons for me. Its very portable and does what two of my recorders could do in 1. So its going to be very useful on my travels.
I always say, the best recorder is the one you have on you and the main thing to be doing is capturing new and interesting sounds!
@@rarefindssound sound! ( that's irish slang for good)
@@petrub27 Haha I use that slang with my mates in Devon and Bristol!
nice video, but still i wonder why the line out doesnt output the daw stereo mix
Hmm. Is it panned on the Portacapture? Maybe the Line out cable is mono? Are you sending the line out to speakers?
@@rarefindssound it looks like this only happens on my m1, not on the intel mac. on the m1, it only outputs via phones out
Have you updated the firmware on the Tascam Portacapture?
@@rarefindssound yes, i found out it works with an intel mac
Hi dear.. There is effect sound & echo sound?
Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking if there are effects you can use on the Tascam like reverb?
@@rarefindssound yes dear.
Yes there are effects that you can put on certain tracks. Personally I've not used them as I use effects in my DAW. But yes, I do believe you can add reverb etc to your tracks
@@rarefindssound thank you dear so much 🌹
