I'd say don't knock it till you try it, trust me the back light strobing on zowie monitors is leagues ahead of what it used to be. I remember the eye strain i used to get on my old tvs. Recently purchased a zowie monitor with back light strobing tech and I don't get that same eye strain.

    • @normaalewoon6740
      @normaalewoon6740 Před měsícem +1

To me, the biggest issue is that strobing is not a plug and play solution. It's easy to mess up one or more of the settings required for a clean strobing experience, causing unnecessary motion artefacts, bad frame pacing and eyestrain. Most people just give up when this happens and remember what they were warned for. Eyestrain can also be caused by the lack of motion smoothness, which is not consistent with the much smaller amount of motion blur. You need some time and rest to get used to this, if sensitive to it. On top of that, TAA blur is a lot more visible with strobing. With nearly every modern game forcing it, it is likely to cause eyestrain for strobing newbies
Strobing can defenitely be good, even at 100 hz or lower. I can use my xg2431 like that all day, without eyestrain at the end. My monitor isn't a factor of annoyance anymore, I can just forget about it and do whatever I like without being constrained. I only need a refresh rate above the flicker fusion threshold (around 85 hz for me, lower with less brightness), a 100% consistent framerate, v-sync, an fps-cap at exactly the refresh rate (to get rid of input lag), a high vertical total (aka quick frame transport, to make the refresh time as short as possible and give the bottom pixels more time to respond before turning on the backlight), the right strobe phase and enough overdrive to remove crosstalk at the center of the screen, allowing overshoot at the top and undershoot at the bottom.

I have an LG C2 oled, a 1440p 240hz IPS and a 1080p 360hz TN (xl2566k) and end up playing all my shooters on the 1080p.
    - 24inch size alllows you to sit much closer to the panel while keeping peripheral vison
    - TN panel has 0 risk of burn in unlike OLED, and dark colors transition faster (faster response time generally) than IPS which is helpful for identifying enemies in FPS games
    - Zowie monitors have the best customizability in regards to sharpness, color saturation, and black equalizer sliders
    - A large amount of pros play stretched 4:3 resolutions, so having a good sharpness slider is important
    - OLED still isnt as bright as TN/IPS
    - high resolutions don't matter for competitive FPS games that have outlined enemies ( Valorant / overwatch). CS nearly everyone plays stretched, so again low res

Resolution does matter for competitive fps games too. It's easier to see enemies on 1440p
Performance is not really a concern for e-sports gamers, especially not if you have so much money for a monitor

I don't see many displays but when I got a laptop with a 280hz 17' IPS panel I learned that I prefer the older 60hz over the never 280hz. ofc I notice that my older monitor is slower but I feel like size is more important. Just look at their mice, they're always years behind everyone else and they only catch up with technological advancements once noone buys their stuff anymore. Their first wireless mice were on par with the g pro wireless in terms of specs and weight but zowie released them 5 years later. And zowies latest mouse the u2 is on par with the gpx 1 but they released it 2 years later. And currently you can get 50 gramm mice with high polling rate and good built quality from china for 50€ but to get the same from zowie we'll have to wait a few more years and pay 3x the price. You forgot to mention one thing, pros care about motion clarity and BRIGHTNESS, TN still have the edge on this two aspects at the same time (at least zowie has) you can use dayac2 and still maintain high brightness. I think zowie will only switch to OLED when they make it bright enough to sustain 350 nits with Black light strobbing on (or watever they call it when is not the back light that is strobing).
So basically Zowie are still using TN because they undestand pros and tryhard player like no other company.

No one else has a 24 inch monitor that can compete. If we had 24 inch oled at 1080p or 1440p the tune would change. Native resolution just feels better. The only non-native resolutions that feel great are black bars or stretched at 720/760. Also dyac is amazing and Zowie has way better support than Asus. It's more than just status quo. Edit: the best aim feeling I've ever had is on 400 dpi on 720/760p monitors. Even at lower refresh. Something about having less pixels to aim at and the interaction of the pointer at 400 dpi just feels amazing even though it looks like garbage. 1440p at 800 dpi is comparable, but 27 inch screen does something to my brain that does not feel as precise.

The deciding factor here is that if their popularity is due to them sponsoring many events, then choosing OLED would be the worst. A great player is a great player and could use any monitor. Humans also have great ability to acclimate very quickly and people also have varying degrees of eyesight quality.

I'm a firm believer that the majority of gamers are completely clueless as to what genuinely makes them more competitive and gives them the advantage. Most people are under the impression higher refreshrate is always better, but panel type proves that to be false. I've heard a lot of competitive gamers say 24 inch screens is by far the best and 27 or 32 inch is too big, but I've found it so much easier to play games on my 32 inch than my old 27 inch. Resolution is also underrated, in games like Battlefield, Warzone or PUBG, the 4k will likely be a lot more useful than 240hz or better. It's game dependent as well as personal preference. Try sniping on a Battlefield game on a 24 inch 1080p then try a 32 inch 4k and tell me the 1080p panel is easier.

And if you ask about the mouses specs they just say: it has 4k polling, 30k dpi and its logitech = it must mean its the best mouse out there, and usually they say the shape is best for them.
Same thing with mousepads, monitors, headsets and keyboards.
They would need to do way to more research about mouses and other tech to know whats really the best. You cant just search the best gaming mouse 2024. It gives terrible videos. Usually top 5 gaming mouses 2024 and in the video there apple magic mouse. And still they are gonna trust that video.
