    I tried this myself over a two-week period. I share the same sentiments especially with the first portion of your movement being accelerated. it takes more than 2 weeks to master something new especially if you spend years or decades training for the opposite.
      ive been playing using acceleration for about 25 years and ignored the so-called advice. its fine. ive been called a cheater for longer than i can remember.
      the real reason i use it though is comfort, same reason why it's nice on the desktop too. it allows you to have the same range of motion for small and large adjustments so you do not need repeated large arm movements or huge desks.
      i dont think that people who played on fixed sens for decades should learn accel, itll take a year at least to really get used to it and youll probably still have some muscle memory kick in from time to time.

    Multi-year aim accel user here. You hit the nail on the head with this video. Aim accel is an awesome tool with lots of potential and a versatility that can be applied to many different aiming scenarios. A few months ago, after seeing Viscose's video on why they stopped using it, I decided to give it a try. I've really enjoyed playing on a static sensitivity again, but my journey as a mechanical player has been greatly impacted for the better by the years I spent playing with aim acceleration. For anyone who hasn't tried it, I'd highly recommend giving it a shot. Challenge your aim, get out of your comfort zone, master different kinds of aiming across different sensitivities and scenarios, and use sensitivity as the tool that it is, switching it up to best suit the requirements of a situation.

      because you seem to have alot of experience i got a question. i am roughly 6 weeks into mnk and gave raw accel a try but then i have seen alot of comments over multiple platforms that smaller movements and especially tracking (fast) targets gets alot worse. is that true or do people that say stuff like that just have wrong settings?

    • @evanrevvin
      @evanrevvin Před 11 dny

      @@neednosoul9622Tracking fast targets is definitely where you start to run into a limitation of aim accel. I think you can make things easier by having a cap on the amount of acceleration that can be applied and changing when it kicks in. When tracking fast targets, I was close to the high end of my accel curve, so my sensitivity didn’t vary too harshly in those situations. If you haven’t seen viscose’s video on this topic, I’d highly recommend it. She highlights some of the limitations of using accel over a long period of time, and one of them is what you’ve mentioned. I wouldn’t describe accel making anything “a lot” worse. Its limitations show up in more subtle ways when you’ve been using it for a while and your curve feels intuitive.

    The number one suggestion I could give is to only change settings on a cold-start (first time of the day you sit at your pc, within the first 15-30 minutes of opening overwatch). Also, don't fear turning off any cap, yes it might sound scary at first coming from a static sens, but your brain compensate for that. Learnt this too many years into it....

    I've been using acceleration for 2.5 years now. When I started out with acceleration I was also experimenting with Motivity like curves, before quickly feeling out that it felt wrong because of that resistance when starting and ending movement that Viscose described. I ended up settling on a completely linear 0.005 acceleration curve with no input/ cap offsets (a straight diagonal line on the graph), I've been playing with the same curve all this time and I find this the most natural and intuitive setting because it is directly a 1:1 acceleration based on the velocity of the mouse with no training wheels or stop gaps that would limit your potential for improvement. It took a while to get used to and is going to take a while before I fully master it, but I don't have the desire to return to no acceleration because of how much flexibility acceleration offers and how natural it feels.

      @Divinity_vA Před 18 dny

      I'd give linear a proper shot at some point but to me it felt purposeless the first time i tried it. Motivity on the other hand felt very good in Apex to look around faster and have it slow down when shooting.

    • @xzraiderzx308
      @xzraiderzx308 Před 18 dny +6

      @@Divinity_vA the problem imo is motivity is unnecessarily strong, it gives a strong first impression of mouse acceleration because of the really fast general movement speed in combination with a really strong slowdown of aim, but it’s not granular enough for aiming in every scenario due to the nature of the curve, it’s like a smooth jump curve, you practically either have fast movement or slow aim. With enough practice you’ll be able to push a linear curve to get the same benefits of acceleration while feeling like you have proper control of the acceleration. The dynamic curves just don’t make sense with the dynamic movement of a mouse imo, it does make sense with the linear motion of a controller stick though.

    I've already been using Raw Accel to correct my left/right aim being flat horizontal since I use a G502 which you naturally angle slightly inwards towards your thumb, therefore aiming left/right aim usually also results in aiming slightly upwards/downwards. This can be corrected with Raw Accel, pretty awesome!

    Super interesting. In the old school days of Unreal Tournament, there was mouse acceleration whenever you dodged. So, you could use a super low sensitivity for fine control then dodge + fast mouse flick to easily do a 180. I missed being able to do that. This brings back that Unreal Tournament feel when I play Pharah and Tracer now. Thanks!!

    Thanks for that vid and showing the curves. I was planning on trying Raw Accel thinking I might be able to set a 2 step acceleration on it, but never could find a time to bother/risk ruining my current gameplay, but seeing it already has it as "Jump" means I need to download it now. 2 step acceleration is how mouse actually worked in Windows 9X. When XP came out with a new multi step acceleration everyone just went and turned it off thinking there was no mouse acceleration on 9X at all, but for me turning it off was completely different to 9X, it made my hand hurt and I had trouble to play at full speed. It was only years later I learned about 9X having a mouse movement speed threshold at which it switched to higher mouse sensitivity. Despite learning how to play on current default mouse acceleration, if I would suddenly sat at 9X I would just turn into flicking aimbot, it feels so natural you don't even notice the change of sensitivity. So maybe now I will be able to use the full of my skills again, but in modern games running on Mitsubishi 2070SB, Razer Cobra, and EverGlide Giganta Transparent Smoke v2 :P

    as a mouse excel connoisseur do the following for best results:
    use jump, and have your mouse settings on the lowest possible sens that you're comfortable with. this allows for precision targeting and tracking for small mouse movements, but if you need to flick quickly, it will ramp up and help you get the crosshair to the head.
    smooth: 0.5
    input: 25-30 (depends on what speed you want your mouse ecel curve to actually start. 25 will make it start earlier and 30 will make it start later)
    output: anywhere from 1.5-2 (I would suggest 1.5 to start with and slowly build up)
    NOTE THE FOLLOWING: if you are a counterstrike degenerate, do not use 400 DPI. mouse excel doesn't like this for whatever reason and the mouse tracking is bad. turn your mouse up to 1600 dpi and lower the mouse multiplier to 0.25

    • @miclwastaken
      @miclwastaken Před 18 dny +2

      lower dpi reduces the amount of dots plotted or some shit which means your curve will be updated slower and less frequently and therefor will feel more stiff, less natural, and in my experience slower. i used mouse accel for around a year, it seems like it has extreme potential for very specific applications and isn't altogether bad for most games, but isn't too good for some specific things and probably isn't worth using if you want to be competitive. Glad you saw the light considering your skills.
    I think mouse accel is actually a gamer meme because it doesn't make sense from a physics standpoint. If you look at how things work in "physical" sports that require precision and power, you won't find movement that is raw flat linearity. Everything has some sort of acceleration with a restraint when precision is needed because it's much easier for the brain to track stuff with 2 variables than a single one, you have more input to work with, more "feels". Just look at how good players handle their badminton rackets or baseball bat. They definitely don't move their arm in a linear fashion, that would be unnatural even if they were able to give it the same power.
    And there is the Quake history, where old school players are very keen on the acceleration for very good reason, it's just better overall even if in theory you could lose some precision if you were able to perfectly move your arm at a precise flat sensitivity like a robot. But that's the thing, you are not a bot, otherwise it wouldn't be a human game and it would be rather pointless; there are other considerations to have and perfect aim is just going into an extreme leaving a lot of other cases on the table.
    Mouse accel is good precisely because it's not perfect, as we say perfect is the enemy of good and perfection is always an illusion anyway.

    You can tune the threshold to accurately separate tracking/strafing from flicking, with a gentle knee. It works incredibly well for quake-likes when you want rapid 180's on both axis for rocket boosts *and* low speed adjustment for rails and lasers. I've left the same curve on for so long I prefer using it in desktop applications as well. The angle adjustment lets you tune the mouse so turning your hand naturally reads as a straight line regardless of whatever silly way you hold it (so long as you're consistent). And, the anisotropy lets you balance out the lack of vertical travel you get when your hand is on the desk.
    People act like linearity is so incredibly useful and intuitive or something, but really, it's way more practical to have a higher dynamic range for your cursor velocity.

      The "best sens" is usually whatever you've been using within your comfortable range of sensitivities for an extended period of time before an event, and the "best sens for practicing" is usually to not have the same sens for that reason. That includes with or without accel.

    Mouse acceleration isn't bad for FPS. (about 8:18) Ex-pro esports CS 1.6 player here. (Around 2009-2013 years). We used to turn off mouse accel but I've meet many top level players who used acceleration (not 0.05 levels btw), this was shocking to many people , us and people in forums too. Just like in NBA, Tyrese Haliburton has weird release in 3 pointer shots but Steve Kerr told coaches "Don't touch him" when he came into league and now today he is all-star NBA level player.
    Not everything works with "data".

    Back in the day when I used to play a ton of Titanfall 2 on controller I remember constantly tweaking this perfect sense thing I had. In the advanced sense settings I would make the stick fully against the edge register super high sense so I could flick around easily because Titanfall 2 is super fast paced, and when the stick was anywhere but the far edge it would be way lower so i could actually hit my shots. worked like a charm and baffled some of my friends when I had them copy my sense.

    I struggle without accel on, my dominant hand got crushed at work and after it healed my joints just don't work right any more, especially the middle finger. My hand tends to tremble if I try too hard to be precise. Acceleration allows me to keep my hand in a much smaller spot on the mousepad and it really helps. I'm not winning any aiming competitions anyways, when I was "good" at FPS games my mouse still had a ball under it and I had a 15" CRT monitor.
