  • The LG 32GS95UE is kinda crazy: It's a 240 Hz 4K OLED monitor, but it can also do 480 Hz at 1080p with the press of a button.

    Back in my day, people said you couldn't tell a difference between 30 and 60fps......... Yet here we are 420hz later 😂

    • @jedics1
      @jedics1 Před 2 měsíci +3

      I used to think 120 fps was enough then I upgraded and could instantly see 165fps as a smoothness improvement. Im sure the jump in fps needs to be higher to perceive more smoothness eg. Instead of a 50 fps increase being noticeable I might need 100fps more to see another step and 200 fps more again to notice another gain in smoothness.

    The thing that amazed me the most when i bought my first 144hz monitor was not motion smoothness, but a reduction in input lag. The difference in mouse responsiveness was insane.

    • @PahEz
      @PahEz Před 2 měsíci +2

      the input lag on that monitor was lower than on your old monitor, that is why the input delay felt amazing. The refresh rate helps to reduce MPRT so that helps with how smooth it looks for you and I would say for me, and for most people that was by far the biggest difference. My old 60hz monitor didn't have that bad of an input delay, the first 144hz TN monitor I got did have slightly better input delay, but it was the monitor's persistence/MPRT which made the biggest difference, since it was so much lower on 144hz compared to 60hz, in fact the time between frames on 60Hz is 16.67ms and on a144Hz it is 6.94ms, so that is a 9.73ms difference which is huge. That is why pretty much everybody can spot the difference in terms of motion clarity between a 60hz monitor and a 144hz monitor. Persistence has nothing to do with input lag tho.

      In dual mode panel is scanning x2 pixel rows at once instead of x1. 2160/2=1080. Thats why its half the resolution and double the refresh rate. U don't want to do x1.3. To achieve true 1:1 pixel mapping at 1440p I guess panel would need to start and end the scan-out somewhere in between instead top-bottom, which I've never seen anyone doing. And 1440p would end up being only 21" on 31.5" 4k panel. Maybe in future they start doing this.
      You should be able to achieve 2:1 or 1:1 pixel mapping simply by making custom resolutions yourself and disabling stretching in amd/nvidia control panel. For 1080p mode (2:1, 480Hz):
      23.8" = 1454 x 818
      24.5" = 1490 x 838
      27" = 1646 x 926
      For 4k mode (1:1, 240Hz) just x2 the resolution.
      Do note that you're adding some latency with black bars.

    CRT monitors had this "feature" as well. Between some limits your maximum refresh rate could be higher if you selected lower resolution. De difference is that you did not need to press a button on a monitor. Whether Windows selected higher refresh rate when it was possible, I don't clearly remember though. And of course CRT-s had like 60 to 100Hz range, or something like that.

    • @NippleSauce
      @NippleSauce Před 2 měsíci

      @@gorgils1 Ahh, thanks for the response! On my PG27AQN, DLDSR cannot be used when DSC is enabled. When I disable DSC (as there is a setting for doing that on the monitor), I can then enable DLDSR. However, disabling DSC also limits my refresh rate to 240hz (whereas it can be set to 360hz with DSC still being enabled).
      These new WOLED panels do not have an OSD option to disable DSC. So, I don't think that you will even see the DSR option in the Nvidia Control Panel. I feel like its a 2 steps forward and 1 step back kind of thing, I wonder why they didn't do a 1 go 1 pixel map for the lower resolution? While they are at it they should add the ability to center the image at the bottom of the screen because your going to be sitting a lot closer potentially with your hands underneath the monitor operating the mouse and keyboard. Thats the case for me already as I must be that close for my glasses to be in focus. A 4K 27 inch that can be dropped to 1440p seems like a better combo to me. Assuming they can get the pixel density that high with oled.

      Unfortunately, this will not work (probably). You usually need to be able to run the full bandwidth (no DSC) to be able to turn this on. I made a post in here, where I changed my buying decision to an LG G2 55 inch instead, because I felt cheated by these manufaturers (insane pricing).
      Got a good deal for 1000 dollars with calman calibration and cannot recommend it more! Also, I run DLDSR/DSR in all titles and have better brightness on 25% windows than these smaller monitors can deliver.

  • @PahEz

    I'm confused. LG support said that you don't need DSC for both 240hz 4k and 1080p at 480hz, but I don't see any information about the monitor having DP 2.0. As far as I know, it only has a HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 with DSC and HDMI 2.1 can not do 240hz native 4k even at 8bit, it isn't even close so either LG is lying or then I'm missing something, someone please explain.
    I do know that both HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 can do 240hz at 4k with DSC but I am talking about without it, which is what they claim. Max data rate of a HDMI 2.1 is 41.92 Gbit/s which is enough for 1080p 480hz at 8bit ( Data Rate Required: 31.96 Gbit/s for 480hz at 1080p 8 bit without DSC, CVT-R2 ) but it isn't nearly enough for 240hz at 4k ( Data Rate Required: 54.84 Gbit/s for 240hz 4k at 8bit, CVT-R2 ) that is way beyond what HDMI 2.1 can do, also most people would probably want to play 4k at 10bit anyway and for that you need 68.56 Gbit/s data rate. HDMI 2.1 with DSC and then you can even do 12 bit 240hz 4k, but again that is with DSC and since they claim that you do not need DSC for both, I would like to know what am I missing here?

    Going from 60hz to 120hz is a massive difference - literally like night vs day, way less input lag, nice smooth animations. Going from 120hz to 144hz - almost identical. Going from 144hz to 240hz - subtle differences noticed, mouse movements and scrolling feels smoother and in-game animations feel slightly smoother. Going from 240hz to 480hz - completely pointless, can't tell the difference in animations or smoothness or input lag. One thing I will say is that dropping to 1080p 480hz makes the image quality look like ass. Better to keep it on 4K 240hz. Just make sure you have a RTX 4080 Super or RTX 4090 to drive it. I have the Gigabyte Aorus FO32U2P 4K 240hz monitor - very similar to this LG one except it is QD OLED and glossy screen with full DP 2.1 (80gbps).

It is bright, it is glossy, it uses the full 120 Hz (4090 delivers 120 fps often) and I can upscale with DSR because it uses the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth without DSC.

      You guys, I thought so too. But you cannot deny the beauty and quality before you experience it. $1000 and it's an OLED with heatsink (originally almost 3000). It sits flush against the wall - so the distance is perfect - but I agree that it is subjective and for some it could be too big. It really is not though, for me, I never have to move my head - check, have cinema size - check, it is bright at 10 And 25% windows, check.
      Except over 50% white it starts to dim. I could disable ABL but I do not mind, I can imagine that some would find it bothersome when opening a full white screen, but mostly having only one window white max open it still has 100% brightness.
      It is just my opinion, but this is much, much more value for the money, especially since the latest GPU does often not give much more than 120 FPS on games with better graphics and these new monitors do not support DSR due to DSC (it's more about the distance and aliasing than anything else).
      Just my 5 cents and I believe it's smarter to go with an LG G2, 3 or even 4 until these Monitors are cheaper and at least have DP 2.1 with UHBR20.
