After getting "certified" as a nail tech, I found another job in a completely different industry and I just ended up doing my own nails every once in a while. I've had mixed results with my own sets throughout the last few years and I always wondered why in every set at least 1 nail came off in the next 24 hours despite looking flawless, another reason why I never really felt comfortable taking paying customers, and after this video I feel like the instructor at the place where I got my certification maybe knew how to create wonderful nails but didn't have the teaching side down, there's so much information in here that I was never taught, and I'm trying all of this new knowledge ASAP, maybe my work will improve and I'll finally be able to put that certification to use!!!! Thanks so much Suzie, I feel like a veil has been lifted!

I started with learning gel about a year ago because I liked the idea of it self leveling, but my nail beds are a little sensitive and I don't like the way they heat up when the product is curing. I recently switched to trying acrylic and I'm having a much easier time with it! I definitely have the turtle nails that need shaping (😂), but I find the overall process easier and quicker.
I do my own because I have psoriasis - I would not ask someone else to do it. I am getting so much better at it now - thank you so much for sharing

I have tried using acrylic to adhere full cover tips (after getting brave from watching your other videos) but really struggled, the monomer was fast and I definitely need more practice with beads 😅

I have your clean acrylic monomer(odorless) and I love it so much. It's been years since I've got to play w acrylic as the monomer smell makes me sick headache n everything but the odorless one is sooooooo worth it. It has a tiny smell to it but WAY less then the regular one. I can have the windows closed n no one would tell I was using acrylic!

This was perfect timing! I'm dabbling into acrylic to use for press ons because glue does not like to stick to my nails my my nails like polygel, builder gel and acrylic.
Suzie!!! Thank you for your wonderful tutorials and products. I just used your slow cure for the first time- both to build and apply a full cover tip (slammed my pinky in a car door and the nail length didn’t make it.) HOLY DAMN was that easier than the fast set! I barely had to sculpt! Also didn’t stink up my house.

I think I'm the opposite as a new acrylic student. when I started out with beads, they were really dry and powdery rather than runny. I'm also finding the creamier, more opaque colours set quicker than the more translucent ones. eventually gonna have to try your slow set monomer to see if that makes a difference with the creamy colours
So when you say thick application of product lifts, that is why dip powder always lifts on me! Epiphany moment! I started out doing dip powder a year ago, and then got frustrated with it because it kept lifting, also it was so thick looking and so much more work I felt like. Then I switched to builder gel and gel polish. I’m having a much better time now, zero lifting. Now I know why, because my application is so much thinner near the cuticle! Thank you Susie!!

Love Suzie, gel from a bottle is the only thing that works for me---it is less expensive in the long run too.

Ok I am certainly sold on the slow monomer acrylic. I haven’t even begun and honestly I have a set date on when I’m ordering because I’m moving. I’m going to have my own room for doing my nails away from my kids and husband.
People who know Suzie’s video library better than I do - is there a video where acrylic is used to adhere full-cover tips? Can’t really find one anywhere.
I dabbled a little bit with acrylic because I was gifted a super cheap beginner set. I'm not sure if it is because the brush was cheap or if I was pushing too hard, but the acrylic would get buried deep in the brush and no matter how much I tried to clean it, it kept getting buried into the bristles. I'm thinking it was possibly how I was pushing the brush... I was using it similar to a nail polish brush when pushing polish into the cuticle.
Many thing happening- using the wrong technique for application, also could be a cheap brush which is much harder to work with. Also Acrylic is very hard cause it dries so fast- it also dries in the brush

I started at 12 and I only gave up is because you only found it in back of the comic books and it won't very popular in the early 70's but I wish I would have kept going I really enjoyed it! And you to practice on yourself well I did but it was very relaxing for me

Yes you can
I love your slow setting monomer, it’s all I use! I have a question though! I know the one bead method isn’t necessary, and it’s not a goal of mine! However I was just purely curious if it was possible to do the one bead method with slow setting monomer! I know slow setting is more for beginners, but I myself can’t use the fast setting because of the smell so I was just curious if slow setting can do the same things as fast setting!
Do what works for you! Not really any rules except making sure you don't flood the cuticle. (To avoid potential skin irritation.) If it's a skill you want to learn (the one bead method) go do it! ♥️

OBSESSED with the colored lights in the background --🤩 LONG time nail tech (though out of the business for 20 years, [grew up along with Tammy Taylor's products] but still do my own). I'm looking for correction of concave nails. I'm afraid my poor thumbs are so so thin now they're concave. I prefer tips, but I've been having to narrow down larger tips to fit, even still, because most tips have a nice C-curve, and my thumbs no longer do, in order to get the tip to stay on, it has to be flattened. Of course, even with a nice coat of acrylic over it, eventually it takes back its own shape and they pop off. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Other than doing a straight up sculpt, to you have any advice???

I ALWAYS go back in with monomer time after time as I feel like the powder gets stuck in my brush and I panic that I’m going to ruin my lovely expensive brush 😢 now I’m realising my ratios may be wrong!
Don’t feel bad - most people ( even pros ) get the ratio wrong - it’s ok - for years into my career I thought that too- then I learned the right ratio and a dry clean brush
I’ve seen some videos where people use your slow cure monomer and they get a lot of yellowing. Is that a sign of incorrect liquid to powder ratio?
Yes it’s all about liquid to powder ratio. Slow Cure is very particular about its ratio/ and bc you use three times less monomer ( which most people get wrong) yellowing will occur. It’s important for any bead to get the ratio right/ just need to be aware of the type of monomer your working with

My nail tech lately has not been doing my nails as good as she used too.
The problem is that she is not putting the polish close enough to the sides of my nails.
How do I either show her or tell her about this. I've been going to her for 13 years now and she is a very moody person, doesn't like to be told anything, lol
The reason I put up with her is because I'm in a foreign country and she is the best I have found.
It bothers me because when I look at my nails sideways they don't look even and of course it looks like a sloppy job.
Sorry for being so long winded, I just wanted to give you a better idea of what I'm dealing with. Thanks for any suggestions.

Can monomer stay in your fancy little dish for a day or two or does it need to be put away daily?
Best to just use the amount you need - discard the remainder but if your tech you keep using it till end of day THEN discard the little bit that’s left
Can you reuse the practice nails on the finger? Can you take the product off and reuse it?

I know you have to practice, practice, practice to get acrylic right, but that’s a lot of product ‘wasted’. Gel doesn’t go to waste - you can practice and scrape, practice and scrape. But I’d really rather learn acrylic, I think. 🤷🏼♀️

If the nail tech is good at what they do $60 is cheap. You can learn yourself but it takes time and cost of products.

I've always liked the idea of "fake" nails...I'm sure that's not the correct terminology- sorry. But I've never liked how thick the product makes the nail look. Wish there were something that produced a "thinner" looking nail, because to me, that looks more natural. Perhaps that just isn't possible.
