    I believe the reason why Two faces last name was changed from Kent to Dent is so people wouldn't think he's related to Superman, because you know, Clark Kent.

    Loved seeing your take on Prodigal! I think it’s a really interesting story and seeing Dick take on the mantle of the Bat is done very well in my opinion. The conclusion of the story in Robin #13 might be my favourite Batman moment ever! The idea of Bruce not feeling as if he had the right to call Dick back after everything, even though Dick was willing to do anything for him, lends so much depth to the characters.

      Its a very human and engaging relationship. These two men truly love each other as father and son, but in different and similar ways they're very poor at getting their respective affection for one another through.

    Dick Grayson for me has always been better as Batman, he's not driven by revenge, he just wants to help the innocent and that's it. Bruce became Batman his only life goal, that's why he would never be happy if Batman exists. I love when Dick and Bruce talk heart to heart, the only moment similar that had happened before was on Batman #416, when Jason as Robin meets Nightwing for the first time. Prodigal was definitely an important moment for Dick Grayson and a must-read for any Nightwing fan. Marvellous work as always Salazar.
    8:00 I love how Adrian von Ziegler's music changed the mood of the video.

    Great video as always. Dick as Batman is such a interesting dynamic and it's interesting to see how he adapts to it over the years (trying to be like Bruce and having a identity crisis in Prodigal, but later becoming more comfortable with being Batman during the Morrison era).

    I'm not against Dick Grayson as Batman (he had some great stories like Dark Mirror) but I this goes against his development as a independent hero. The whole point of him becoming Nightwing is a representation of Dick finally stepping out of Batman's shadow and taking his own identity as hero. He becoming Batman feels more like a regression of all this evolution he went through. That's why the best Batman successors after Bruce are or should be Terry Mcginnis, Tim Drake or Damian Wayne, since they wanted to continue Batman's legacy (specially Tim Drake, who wanted to be a detective).

    • @kingofcrap4414

    I think the reason why Dick Grayson works as Batman is similar to why Terry McGinnis or Tim Drake works as Batman. They are Heroes, putting aside personal vendettas and seek to save lives before vengeance comes to the picture. They honor Bruce without taking his obsessive weakness as their own shortcomings.

    Grayson is best bc he left Bruce and that’s what made him realize he needs that codependent bond. That’s why Damian will be the last robin ever or at least for a long time. He his real son and actually seeks the codependent bond the exact same way as Bruce they don’t ask for it but force it though interactions. Tim drake has it too bc Bruce decided not to avenge his parents death the same as nightwing. Jason never had anyone to avenge so that’s why Jason feels the codependent bond more and why he’s becomes a killer bc he realize Bruce doesn’t love him like he loved him.

    I never liked the concept of forcing someone (usually Dick) to take on the mantle of Batman. It feels vain and self absorbed. Especially since it typically means Dick is pressured into adopting Batman's traits. That's just not who he is.

  • @darthbigred22
    @darthbigred22 Před rokem

    I'm not digging that plotline in the end because Robin had a mother and father already. He was old enough he tried fighting off the people who killed them so at best Bruce is a uncle or big brother to him but there's no way Robin would ever see him as a father. Actually the whole Nightwing thing kind of falls apart because there's no getting around even if you are a vulnerable 10 yr old who's parents had just been murdered, if the one guy who can help you get revenge does, is it really his fault that you stayed on fighting crime?
    I get it writers wanna keep Robin out and I tend to agree a solo Batman works better because Robin is, nowadays, a lame name. In the same breath Robin is also iconic so you can't do Batman without him you just think they should have just kept going and said Batman and Nightwing stayed partners or whatever. I mean really you'd kind of expect Robin to have the same drive as Batman but maybe being able to beat the shit out of bad guys much sooner than Bruce was able to really helped him get over things.

    • @SalazarKnight
      @SalazarKnight  Před rokem +3

      It was different because they didn't know Bruce was going to return, so Dick had to assume he was going to be Batman for a long time and that's where both stories are different. Plus Damian also creates a whole different dynamic than Tim did.

      @@SalazarKnight Yes I agree! I think that's one reason comics seem so daunting to most people; it'd be like starting on episode five thousand of "Lost" or "Breaking Bad". Considering how popular superheros are, it's pretty sad how unread comics are. Think of how popular the Harry Potter and Twilight books are, for comparison. Maybe they'd sell better if comics stopped being periodicals, and instead were sold and hyped as longer books that could be sold as a standalone story. Anyway.
      Can you still remember the comics you've read? All those golden age and silver age stores must blend together.

    • @SalazarKnight
