  • Y'all know I was waiting for it and it finally arrived. Batman Caped Crusader released and I think we FINALLY have traditional Villains again and not sympathetic villains.

    • @Mag.Media_
      @Mag.Media_  Před měsícem +3

      I agree but Lex does not appear often in the most consumed media (movies & TV) also most people's mind currently hops to Harley Quinn and the Joker, and in both of those cases they are seen as symbols for rebelling against the system. If Lex got more shine and more presence in the general media I would even be willing to say that he may affect the current standard of what we perceive to be a villain.

    This was a very middling show for me. I didn't hate it, but I found a lot of decisions to be influenced by the message. Jim and Barbara Gordon being black made sense given how Jim was Black in the 2022 movie. But characters like Harley being a somewhat heavy-set aisan woman felt like a pointless change. Penguin, being a supposedly beautiful show-girl/singer, seemed antithetical to the original concept. And Harvey being a bit of a misogynist before turning into 2 face seemed redundant. Not to mention I find it odd how 1930's Gotham City, which supposedly takes place in New Jersey, by the way, has more cultural diversity than modern day New York. However I did like somethings. Batman had a couple emotional moments that I feel were well handled, and Harley Quinn's mentor being casually mentioned to be Johnathan Crane was a nice subtle clue to her being some sort of extremist.

    I like how it mixes things up with some sympathetic villains like Nocturna and Two-Face, some that are criminals but not completely evil like Catwoman, some that are fake tragic like Clayface and Gentleman Ghost, some that are pure evil like Penguin, and some that are just there for the ride like Onomonapia. You need to have a mix of different villains to make a great series, that's what made the original animated series so great.

    Ah, the villains who were evil for evil's sake. Classic. Sure we like how modern villains are portrayed and have some sympathy, and in some cases even agree with their methods, but when we get the classic evil villain, it just goes to show how much we miss that kind. Really the only villain who comes close to being sympathetic is Harley, and for once, it's not because of Joker. In fact, this is a rare instance where she predates him.

      The Quinn is this show is a vigilante like Batman, she did what she did because she was disgusted with the lack of personal growth of her victims. They wouldn’t change so she forced it. This is her idea of how to change Gotham…hopefully she comes back in a bigger role she has potential to be this version of Batman’s Riddler (from the Pattinson movie). We don’t know what she’s heard, but because of how corrupt Gotham is we can assume it’s stuff that’ll make you guilty for knowing and doing nothing about. In a way, she is a vigilante like Batman but with more self indulgence and hint of psychopathy (with all the weird costumes and torture and all) as opposed to Batman using immediate violence to clear criminals and letting the justice system handle the rest (which is faulty cuz Gotham)

    Yeah the show has a lot of problems. It displays an America of the 1950's where they erased the history of racism. The very old gender swap trope, its been going on for twenty years now, its old and its boring. The fifteen year old race swap, old. Depicting the penguin as an obese hook nosed crone as attractive, its just so gross and unappealing. Watch the original Batman the Animated Series, the writing and the plot is so much better than this boring, predictable tripe.

      While I think you can criticize as you see fit. One of the original writers of the show is quite literally a creator of the current show. Racism is not a factor because it is not a piece that is meant to clearly be impacted by the time it may be placed in. And both the gender swap and race swap trope you may not like them but they don't impact the show. Based on the critiques you laid out, you yourself seem to only have a problem with character design decisions and that has nothing to do with the overall writing or plot at this point. The DNA is present and I think CC could prove to be better than the original BTAS, this current format seems to just not be for you IMO.
