- In this video, I film white sharks in kelp beds and observe them interacting with sea life all around, undisturbed by humans. I note three white sharks may be forming a loose social association and I also document a growing trend among the white sharks in Southern California; Sharks with injuries. Stay to the end and you'll see footage of a great white shark doing something you may not have ever seen before. I know I haven't seen this behavior.

I watch the channel of a group of guys who rescue seals tangled and severely injured by fishing line and other waste in Namibia. They have saved hundreds. It makes me think of the countless animals that are killed by human debris. I am filled with despair for what we have done to the paradise were were given to live in.

@@annettezetterholm5078 tyvm for all that you do! I have an icecream/trash party 3x a year with the kids in my neighborhood. They have to fill a paperbag with trash and then they exchange it for icecream. We have rules of course on what they are allowed to pick up with gloves on. The kids absolutely love doing it; but it's still upsetting that people still litter after seeing their own children picking it up. I've been doing it for 9 yrs, and I will never give up hope for our future generations. 😉👍

Thing is it's not just from releases. A lot of plastic and trash is deliberately dumped in oceans. Fly over the gulf if Mexico once. The trash in the water is horrible

My cousin noticed social interaction between Thresher sharks off the coast of long Island NY... He has video where upon fishing one was caught and another surfaced adjacent as if to see what was going on with his friend.... The shark was released and they swam off together... These videos are AMAZING... Keep up the great work! Please consider coming to the east coast for some footage...

As someone who used to regularly spearfish around southern California, I had believed (having heard the same thing from other divers) that white sharks generally stayed out of the kelp beds for whatever reason and so they considered somewhat more "safe" areas to hunt around...BUT clearly I was mistaken and the footage speaks for itself. Besides that, videos like this teach and help reprogram my views on white sharks to see them more as extremely misunderstood creatures than the cold, beady-eyed killing machines they're often portrayed as. They are really majestic though, albeit a bit mysterious...but I suppose that's why they're so feared. As much as they've grown on me, I would still be hesitant about encountering one in the wild while I'm snoping around their backyard with just fin/goggles...But even then, I'm much less likely now to die from an instant heart attack, having seen their more friendly (and photogenic) side. Thanks for everything!
Agreed! If I was to encounter a shark in the water, I would hope to do it surrounded with professionals/shark conservationists and a chain mesh diving suit. Because then I'd have things that could not only help prepare for a shark encounter, but I'd also be able to hopefully pet one (depending on if the shark would be okay with that).
Sad to see these sharks having our crap hanging from them. They deserve so much better. Keep doing such wonderful work, the images you produce are profound.

@@paulmckeighan1679 That's a piece of kelp. You can see it when he actually zooms out towards the back at 6:28. The shark is swimming through a kelp bed and picked some up. Not all crap in the ocean is unnatural.
Not only is it soothing to see the Sharks swim so peacefully, but also listening to your voice when you speak. Your voice is absolutely beautiful.
Dolphins are the most fascinating animal to me for many reasons. At the top of the list is their aesthetically pleasing shape, the balanced & bold curves and tapers. Theirs is poetry in motion exactly like the shark.

Your channel is one of my absolute favorites. As a child, I would spend hours and hours studying sharks. I would gravitate to the shark section in my elementary school library… so much so that I went to a university to study marine science. I ended up with a psych degree instead but still have a massive affinity and respect for this species. Thank you so much for the work that you do.
That first shark looks like he’s tagged. He looks like he has a tag on his dorsal fin. I love sharks and thinks they’re absolutely amazing. White sharks are beautiful creatures and deserve our protection. Thank you for this beautiful footage. @@noodles6390 It is so tragic that because of human recklessness and disregard for this beautiful planet, and ocean that we've been given it is being totally destroyed. Sharks are so vital to the ecosystem and we are learning more from them everyday thru studies how they can help with Cancer research and other diseases. We must help them and make sure they dont just survive but thrive. They are such beautiful majestic creatures and deserve to be here. The very first thing is to stop finning everywhere. It is the cruelest most inhumane thing that can be done to any living being. I have seen videos with ships just catching them, hacking off their fins and throwing them back to drown. They maim and kill so many on any given day and they keep doing it. No wonder they are going extinct. I know it's a cultural thing but we must teach them not doing it is better for the environment. We must show this new generation how sharks are beautiful and how we as a whole benefit from them being here. Extinction is just not an option.

My dad was surfing in the 1960's when a hammerhead bumped his board. He looked around and saw many many sharks in the water all around him.
He said you never saw someone paddle a board so fast with just his fingertips. But aside from the one bump, he was not bothered any more by the sharks.
Of course he's wasn't going to hang out and wait to get bit.
I've heard similar stories, where a surfer or kayaker suddenly realizes that they are surrounded by sharks. Even little ones, I'd be out of the water as fast as I could!!!

Absolutely gorgeous,thank you.I had a very close white shark encounter while kayak fishing and I can honestly say that encounter changed me forever and in it was in the best way. It was perhaps the most beautiful,terrifying and graceful things I’ve ever seen…and I was a commercial fisherman for about five years off the Northern California coast
out of all footage I have seen of sharks, particularly Great Whites, even footage of them striking at seals up out from the surface of the water, this footage observing them from the air is not only the most beautiful images, the most mesmerising, but also the most interesting. Seeing a shark cough and shiver is maybe a first.

Your message about these absolutely important and beautiful creatures is refreshing to see. I believe that shark might be trying to expell parasitic attachments in it's gills. I would love to think it is not human caused!!
i have swam in these areas up and down the coast for almost 50 years. I always knew there was a risk. Now I know that the risk was much bigger than I thought. I have seen sharks while swimming and rolled through a wave with a hammerhead once while body surfing. Had a white come up and grab a sea lion pup 20 feet from the boat off New Years Island {ano nuevo) while ling fishing. Footage like this in the exact places I was, made me decide to stay out of the ocean. Had I seen this 50 years ago, I never would have gone in in the first place. Groundbreaking stuff. Thanks.
Growing up in gulf coast Florida near the Everglades, especially after the BP oil spill, taught me that marine life and all ecosystems on our planet are immensely important. Thank you for the footage and the important message, sharks are magnificent creatures

Great Whites have been known to form associations with different species, let alone each other. There are also records of wild Great Whites forming strong and long-lasting bonds with humans.

That shake of the shark's head reminds me of when we shudder for no reason. Here in the UK, that shudder is said to be "Someone walking over your grave!" I wonder if Great Whites have that funny little shudder. I'm very interested to hear the responses about what it could be. Never stop uploading these videos. They are so, so important ♥
We also do that when we sneeze . . . so it's possible there was something in it's gills that tickled it and it "sneezed" to get it out.
So, when you shudder, I guess you are still alive ? How can someone be walking over you grave ? It's a future shudder ?
Sometimes you just have to have a good shake.
I believe it is called a "Sh*t-shudder" - something to do with a nerve being stimulated when you have a good hearty poo.

Your drone footage just blows me away. We are very lucky to have created an invention that can come so close to animals and nature, affording us unparalleled views with no harm (hopefully). It is especially nice to have no nearby boats interfering with the behavior while trying to film that behavior. Photographers such as yourself with such a sensitive mindset are an excellent addition to the study of this planet. Subscribed.
My dad was a diver when he was younger. He had a lot of Jacques Cousteau books sitting around the house and i would always look through them when i was little. I became very interested in sharks, and i still am. I love your channel and i feel like I’ve learned so much from it. Thank you for giving us insight into their behavior and not portraying them as monsters. One of my bucket list items is to go cage diving. Also….I’ll never be buying Mylar balloons again…
I found great inspiration in your videos and I learn along aside you. Sharks are portraited in different medias as vicious animals with only purpose in life to attack and kill. Your videos displays different behaviors, much more calm and investigating their surroundings not by biting. It is and will always be sad to observe injuryed sharks, but that is what happens while living in the nature. It is very interesting to observe sharks and their behaviors through your lens. I work on a white shark cage diving boat in mosselbay south Africa. We have noticed numerous times after a great white has hunted a seal . Seal intestine pieces are sometimes coming out from the sharks gill slit flows in a very similar way . However this may not be the case here it's hard to tell when you don't see the shark at eye level. Love your white shark videos ! Keep it up

I shore dive to forage and go spearfishing off the coast of Palos Verdes and Malibu two times a week on average, and I it blows my mind looking at your footage that so few Spearos/Free-divers report seeing White Sharks on their dives. I have talked to a fair amount of divers and the amount that have had a visual encounter seems to be quite small. I appreciate your channel as a source of education, and I am convinced that they are seeing me well before I see them. I don't mind it that way, but I am curious with all your footage if you don't observe the behavior of sharks with Free-divers/ Spearos in the water. I saw your episode of following the swimmers in Malibu, but I am especially curious with regards to individuals diving at depth and if the sharks don't even check it out. Thanks for your channel, I can't believe it isn't in the millions of subs yet-- you deserve it.

From 2:00 those two sharks near the surface appear to be hunting prey and the third, deeper and far more active shark is attempting to flush prey up the the other two. It looks like cooperative hunting to me

I've missed your last few uploads due to personal reasons but it's great to come back to this. Especially the end. "The next step is exploring at night..." What I've been calling for for months. Lol Also, I have no idea what the shark was doing at the end but can't White sharks regurgitate their entire stomachs? It may have something to do with that perhaps.
It's also great how the scientific community really see the value in your hard work too. You should also consider making a full length movie/documentary one day.

He's captured 100% natural behaviour without human interference AND observed behaviours not observed before! No big multi million dollar expedition or equipment. Just armed with a drone and a CZcams channel. Magnificent! lol

I don't life anywhere close to an ocean and it truly saddens me when I see just how much trash is actually in the waters due to humans! Their "we don't care" attitudes for the sharks and other sea creatures environments, is disheartening!

that short time ..Was a downer on the holiday and a wake up to how lucky i am to live in Hervey bay Qld Australia with the pristine sandy straights and Fraser island as my daily backdrop !

Mylar balloons are one of the most frequent garbage fishermen find at cape cod, MA. Once you know that you start seeing them everywhere. I do not buy mylar balloons anymore and I certainly won't let one fly away. They are nice but end up being trash in the ocean.

...and I'm the stick in the mud that's ignored when I tell folks about the dangers that balloons not just mylar ones, pose to nonhuman animals. There are balloons that degrade and are not made with these materials but they are not cheap nor do most places carry them. I am so angrily disappointed by humanity's refusal to give up some convenience, and some crap that isn't needed, for the betterment of all, and I am definitely angry that I get ignored and patronizingly dismissed for giving a crap.

I've heard about the mouth/gill flaring in intimidation tactics between sharks but alone? Might just be to remove parasites or stretch. Just a thought.

Wow that’s something I’ve never seen before shark shaking reminded me of when a dog gets washed then shakes ,would be a good question to ask a marine expert someone studying sharks could be an effect of nerve damage like terets not sure the spelling ,I have a drone here in Australia often fly over local beach watching for dolphin activity ,I’ve seen them while out on my boat but haven’t managed yet to film with my drone 👍
You're. referring to Tourette's Syndrome...an involuntary nerve involvement of the human neural system which causes movements in people and also inappropriate and oftentimes gross and negative remarks that are uncontrolled by the speaker. I've had several cases of people in my practice as a Speech/Language Pathologist who have Tourette's ..and it takes a lot of conditioning to reverse these unacceptable remarks. But you're right about how the shark's movements could appear like Tourette's symptoms...who knows? Someday maybe we will know about a marine animal disease called "SHARK'S TOURETTE'S"..!!!🦈🌊🦈
Thank you for another incredible video!! I definitely think that is some sort of ribbon or string attached to the shark and chances are it probably did come from balloons. I've noticed lately alot of people who do balloon releases in honor of deceased loved ones , sometimes hundreds of balloons at a time. I've often thought how bad this could be for different animals but never really thought about sea life until now. It's sad seeing these majestic creatures injured by humans being careless.

It probably rips his jaw clear off his head and turns his eyes into noxious fume producing gas pistons, which screech like robots slamming metal on each others faces
The streamer protruding from the right side gills are intestines from the prey this shark fed upon. I've seen this first hand after white sharks feeding on pinnipeds, cetaceans, and even large fish.
I do believe that's what it is but we can't say definitively either way, but I do think that's a possibility as well. I have footage of intestines hanging out of the mouth in one of my previous videos. Sure does look like it here too.

I'm a scuba diver in Northern California. We have kelp forests all over our diving favorite diving spots. In Monterey Bay (yes, the one amazing place you hear and read about.) I took my Advanced Scuba lessons in Monterey. Sometimes it's so thick our kayaks just glide over the top of it! We also tie our kayaks to the big bull kelp, and they aren't going anywhere. We can paddle out anywhere and slip in the water for the best diving around. We seem to attract juvenile seals who love to play and swim around us. And of course, we have our fair shares shark sightings. A story for another day. Life is Good!

The shark shaking its head was highly unusual to see, much like a voluntary movement rather than involuntary, seems like it's desire to expel debris to clean the gills is a process not uncommon, proving there is conscious cognitive behaviour in sharks.
I get so upset and literally angry when I see videos of people doing balloon releases in "tribute", "messages to Heaven" to loved ones who have passed away. People give no consideration to what actually happens when these balloons are released in the environment. Birds entangled, consumed by whales, it's awful. 🤬 🚫🎈
Jesus saves these people though specifically so they could release balloons for various reasons, it says so Mark 3:19

I love your videos and soothing narration. I think you're changing people's perception of sharks. Forever, maybe even before 'Jaws', sharks have been fodder for fear and nightmares (mine especially). But now, you've made them more beautiful and fascinating than revered. I wouldn't watch videos of sharks before, now I look forward to yours. 🦈🌊💙
I think more has, or could be been understood about the great white sharks through beach lead drones than all of the footage that has been taken from chum feeding them in dive cages…
Would love to see more night thermal camera footage although it’s probably going to limit anything to far under the surface waters.
It looks to me like when a dog shakes to remove stuff from its coat.how interesting that a great white is doing a behavior like that. I hope you find out more and tell us! So sad to see the beautiful creatures with human “garbage” attached to them and damaging them. Is it possible for them to be helped if tracked and remove it?

I think the education and awareness you are raising with your work is so important. Its proves that sharks are not the monsters they are depicted as, but calm and respectful beings. I used to have a funny feeling going for a swim here in Australia but ever since I started watching your videos I now trust that I'll be fine and if a shark comes close it does not mean I will lose a leg. I hope so much your channel will keep growing and more and more people are willing to protect sharks and stop fishing for them just for amusement. Thank you.
Isn't it time that all fishing gear used by pros and amateurs alike have an identifying feature on them? Nets are particularly harmful to the environment but get used without regard to anything.
More than the shark not being interested in attacking the rays, the rays also don’t act frightened of the shark. See a deer 🦌 catch sight of a cougar- they are panicked. But the rays do not seem to be scurrying away. Hmmmm.

Actually a deer would not neccesarily instantly become panicked by seeing a cougar either, since it would know just as well that the cougar allowing the deer or other animal to see it in front of them to begin with means that it is not interested in hunting it, as cougars hunt very inconspicuously and from behind, not allowing themselves to be seen by their prey until they are literally on top of it. Ijs
Other animals often share the same sentiment when they know they aren't being actively hunted. Besides that, there are many recent studies that show it is not uncommon for gw sharks to form social bonds with other species of animal besides their own.
