Great White Shark Takes Bite at Kelp & Incredible Slow Motion Footage

- Despite the cold water temperatures of the winter in Southern California, many white sharks are still found along the coast. In what is probably one of the most unique sequences I've captured thus far, I filmed a large juvenile white shark seemingly biting at floating kelp. It appears to be eating the kelp in a few clips. But why?
Additionally, I share some of my best slow motion footage of the month in 4K resolution.

When the water is really clear, it's almost like they're floating in the air until you see them break the surface. So beautiful.
I know that sharks don’t eat kelp they are carnivores and they can’t be ominivores either because all of there death are sharp.
As a kid, I found sharks absolutely fascinating. Thank you for bringing this fascination back.
ğ
Same as I remember doing a project in middle school and being so fascinated by them. Still remember the first sentence of that project. “ If there’s such a thing as reincarnation I’d come back as a shark “😂. That was way back in 1988 never lost the fascination and intrigue.
Me too. So I made my dreams come true and did a cage dive with white sharks. Unforgettable.
@@topshiba293 my brother did in South Africa 🇿🇦 with white shark 🦈 Lucky git.
Same, I used to draw them from encyclopedia glossy folding pages.
Peter Benchley regretted the dark air JAWS put upon White Sharks, and sharks in general, and spent the rest of his life fighting for sharks and preservation. They are apex predators; all apex predators are intensely dangerous - but they are also majestic, breath taking creatures. There is no animal I love more than the Great White Shark. Your filming of these creatures, and the awe and sheer respect and love in your voice makes me so happy to hear someone talk about them like I would talk about them! Keep these videos coming; you're doing these mysterious, beautiful animals a great service!
That shark messing with the kelp reminds me of a toddler just interested in everything around them. Your footage is absolutely beautiful amazing.
This video is so misleading. Just wait until your relatives or love ones get mauled by them
You singlehandedly have dispelled the worst myths about Great White's. Your footage is so important I wish that everybody who thought of these creatures as sinister monster's would find your page and become enlightened. Thank you and keep doing what you do!
This man should get some significant award for what he has captured in video and brought to light!
The opening with the pelicans against the backdrop of a gorgeous sunset is breathtaking! The Great White footage is mesmerizing as usual. The one playing with the kelp looks massive, especially in width. I have a strong suspicion that I’m not alone in saying that I would not hesitate to buy a feature long movie of all your footage should you ever decide to do that. Thanks for all you do and share.
I teach English as a second language in Quebec, Canada. One of my groups are students with Autism and we're working on a project about sharks. I've used some of your videos to help them see how sharks are not the man eaters they think. Thank you :)
@@Playitstraight44 , Yes I absolutely feel bad for his loved ones, but look at the # of wrecks CONSTANTLY, yet we do not tell everyone to stay out of cars and/or off the roads. Same goes for so many other things that harm or kill humans on a daily and even hourly, etc. basis. Sure we should be cautious and be shark aware, but I wouldn't consider people who want to have safe encounters as stupid or dumb. Look at the # of dog attacks AND deaths by dog attacks. You wouldn't consider people who associate with dogs to be ignorant would you? Btw Rick, I am not putting you down by any means. I am just stating some things that you may not have known. Have a good night. 🦈

Just discovered your page a few weeks ago. Glad this type of information is being introduced to the world through such an informative and visually mesmerizing perspective. Thanks for all that you do, and thanks for an amazing video!
Love these videos so much. They are making such a huge difference in how people see and think about these sharks. Thank you.
I can only hope that a lot of the so called shark experts take the time and effort to watch you excellent videos and listen to the commentary.
Thank you for your efforts to understand these so misunderstood creatures.
Incredible footage. You, sir, are amazing at what you do, and it's lovely that your videos educate everyone about sharks.
Your footage and commentary are, as always, perfect.
I really look forward to the day you get the chance to come down to Australia and New Zealand to see the great whites here (esp those down in Stewart Island).
#MiaSciberra, Someone got killed by a great white in a spot in Australia that nobody had been killed/attacked for 70 years! Yesterday I believe it was. The problem is, it is so rare and people will now build it up to terrify folks even in conditions where it is HIGHLY unlikely. I still feel bad for those who have lost a loved one by shark "mistakes, test bites, etc." or the rare flat out attack, but I just wish people wouldn't lie about HOW they really happen. Bull sharks have surpassed great whites by far in Australia. In #'s and attacks. I would be far more afraid of bull sharks!
@@teresaboone7298 will you go swim next to one? Make a big jump splash too 😉
This video is so misleading. Just wait until your relatives or love ones get mauled by them
@@Itsoeasyafterall, EVERYONE who knows me knows I would. Look up 99% of people who get injured whether lightly or very horribly turn into shark champions. Look up facts. I will not argue with ANYONE. Especially those who know no facts. Period...
@@thesorrow88 Psychopaths are the ones who want to blame a wild animal for "their" ignorance. Also those who do not care if ALL sharks are killed and then FAR more humans die from the dead seas. No pun intended. Smh...
By far some of the best video on these creatures ever filmed. Keep the drones flying and cameras rolling in efforts to continue educating people. If we lose our oceans ecosystems, we humans lose. So much damage is already irreversible.
Thanks a ton!
As always, amazing footage. You clearly take time and care to bring out the best of your shots.
Your videos are so beautiful. I could watch these white sharks cruise around for hours. Magnificent animals.
I’m terrified of sharks, I think I have the phobia. But videos like this are helping grow understanding and appreciation for how beautiful and important these animals are to the oceans.
Yep, Im with you, they scare the $hit outta me but I still think they are majestic creatures.
@MrBoon 1 per month, is that all? Damn, they’re even more passive than I thought. Thanks for the info 😁
@MrBoon you should rephrase that, they don’t EAT people, they attack them out of curiosity or confuse them with prey. After attacking and realizing it’s not their prey, they leave the person alone and leave. In most cases, people died due to blood loss. Every year, more people are killed by coconuts than a shark.
@@s0ma782 Not true. There is a video of a 15ft Great White attacking a swimmer that emerged last week in Sydney, Australia. The shark hits the guy initially from underneath, the swimmer while screaming then tries to swim to the nearby rocks where people are fishing and recording, and the shark keeps repeatedly mauling him before biting him clean in half and his screams go silent. You can see the guys torso floating in the ocean before the shark makes another pass and eats that too. They absolutely DO and will eat people if they are hungry enough. No mistaken identity with this attack, the shark knew damn well after the first hit what it was attacking. I suggest Nol does not watch that video or he wont be going back in the ocean lol.
@@anthonyr587 you have a fair point. But they are not like killing machines like people think they are (I am not saying you do too), the shark was probably really hungry and that is why it attacked the person.
Excellent footage & narration. I was hooked from beginning to end. Thank you for making this ground-breaking (at least for me) information accessible to the public.
LOVE the work you're doing in educating humans, THANK YOU, much LOVE.
It’s easy to forget they’re not just big funny fish swimming around when watching them from above, but highly skilled predators 😅
what a majestic animal. RIP Simon Nellist.
did you just tease nocturnal footage?? I've wanted that for *so long*
i’m thalassophobic and videos like yours really helps me overcome my fear of the unknown ocean, specially sharks. a huge thanks for explaining just how interesting these creatures are.
Beautiful coverage on such a majestic species! From both a visual and narrative sense. Loving the channel!
They are so gorgeous, yet terrifying.
@healing seed Maybe I like teeth ?
I've been off shore and caught sharks and many other creatures. I just though that the shark in the pictures presented was awesome looking. They are a very necessary animal. Beautiful and ferocious, in their own way.
@healing seed If they are selling Great Whites or other endangered sharks that are illegal to capture and sell then you are not seeing the beauty, but the opposite. Death.
@healing seed FBI OPEN UP
VERY GORGEOUS but VERY TERRIFYING...Imagine being sat on a surfboard just minding your own when suddenly a gigantic black shadow emerges from the depths of the ocean and tries to tear you to bits. Stuff of nightmares AND YET I love sharks.
I think this is your best video yet, love watching these creatures in slow motion.
I really love the content on your channel, and I look forward to every time you post.
The slow motion makes them look so graceful and majestic.. Wonderful footage of an amazing animal.. I absolutely love your videos!
It’s great to see how you are fine tuning your skills, truly breathtaking. To catch the shaking for the first time is awesome, I really value your content, thank you so much 🙏
What GORGEOUS opening footage of the Pelicans!!!!
Those Pelicans were awesome...
A shark eating kelp sounds like a cat eating grass. It's gonna make itself barf.
I’m so excited at the idea you may offer some night footage! Thank you so much ☺️
i love learning about these magnificent creatures from you! There’s so much more too these sharks than what we see
Hey man, your footage is absolutely beautiful, and your narration brings every to life. I went shark diving in the Bahamas last month, these are just some of the most majestical creatures in the world. Keep up the great work!
The great white going after the kelp is absolutely fascinating… I’m so happy I found your channel man
Such a beautiful calming video. I found myself smiling all the way through.
What a beautiful and enthralling video . It not only increased my knowledge of this amazing animal but it was also wonderfully composed .
Such a great channel and I wish you all the success that you clearly deserve!🦈👌🏼
This video was amazing! I especially loved watching the shark eating the kelp. Very interesting behavior. Thanks for another great video MA
Amazing footage! Super clear and stunning close ups shots of the sharks
Really cool footage and narrated by a guy who obviously is very knowledgeable but also cares deeply about these awesome animals and the oceans they inhabit I pray that humans dont destroy them for we will in so doing be destroying ourselves
I have enjoyed these videos so much! You are an amazing videographer and narrator. And I appreciate your passion to educate people in an effort to protect these magnificent creatures :)
Thanks so much Charli

Absolutely beautiful footage..... The Malibu Artist back with more 🔥 ❤
As always you've captured some incredible footage of these majestic creatures💙
Sir, I love you, your voice, the music, the footage……THANK YOU
It is great how your images dispel many of the myths and fears about these incredible animals. Yes they are dangerous and demand respect but no they are not mindless killers intent on attacking every human they encounter. This is what you have taught me. Thank You !
Wow you do such a great job at creating questions and thought in my mind. When you showed the shark slightly surfacing it's head out of the water and mentioned it's 'curiosity to the world above' I felt so connected the shark itself. Thank you for your time in your videos i really enjoy them.
they’re more curious like a fine wine enthusiast, except by wine, I mean blood. It’s not beauty they are seeking, its expanding their menu.
This is just awesome! This is just so incredible to see!! Thank you for sharing this!
keep doing what your doing, it's always good to inform people of misunderstood creatures
Such amazing video.... I cant get enough of these ... Thank you
Best video so far! Beautiful!
Beautifully done video! Your voice is perfect for narration!
These videos are so brilliant it’s hard to even begin explaining why
Man, I just love you because of these videos. Thanks for it! Greetings from Brazil.
I saw the shark eating kelp on ig and it was amazing! Can’t wait to see in full screen in 4K!
Superb work, these footages are fascinating. This type of observation can teach us so much
Great video, I appreciate all the details you share visually along with your knowledge. Your opening clip was the perfect image many dream of. Thanks
Conclusion: the shark was bored and was just having fun
Excellent footage and narration, well done you 👏👌
Much appreciated!
That Shark eating the kelp is Bruce. He’s a vegetarian because fish are friends. I saw a documentary about him a couple years back. I think it was called “Finding Nemo”.
Can’t wait to see the footage at night, so fascinating!
Spectacular footage! Thank you
Good and interesting presentation! Some great video clips!!. Thanks for the enjoyable video. Can't wait for more...a lot to study in this behavior you captured!
Thank you, amazing footage!
WOW! This is absolutely stunning. Well done! 🦈👍
Beautiful! Thanks again!
At last! I'm guessing night/thermal imaging quality has got better? REALLY looking forward to this!
Wow the footage you get I’ve not seen sharks like this TY‼️

Loving your channel
Loved the video! Thanx again❤️ from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
excellent! Thank you for these beautiful images😊
Love your work man, keep it up please
Such great videos. Thank you.
Great footage your video is inspiring and I love the fact that it shows these predators can swim about effortlessly in the ocean and cause no harm to anyone .
Thank you for showing this side of sharks .
It’s pretty much a matter of edible curiosity, hunger and chance. A well fed shark is a slightly safer shark.
The white shark has one of the most powerful bites in the animal kingdom yeah it's scary but pretty cool
Bight forces is one thing but a bigger factor in my opinion is just how effective there teath are. They don't need to put much effort into doing a lot of damage.
@@tieganwilliams391 And they don’t even need to be hungry to be deadly, just curious. All though, when they are hungry, and they’ve figured out we are made of meat, it sometimes ends slightly worse.
Thank god sharks are generally peaceful creatures.
Beautiful footage, and what a tease that is at the end!
Thermal ? Can't wait to see night time action.
Your channel is fantastic.
you truly ARE an artist, my friend
Thank you ... from the bottom of my soul!!!!
Bonjour de France. You are doing an excellent job by filming these sees masters from above. Congrats and may your investigations make us understand better the beautiful marine life.
Amazing work. Thanks.
Fascinating footage! I'm very intrigued as to what marine biologists will make of the kelp interactions. Remarkable revelations.
Came here from Reddit, keep up the great work my guy!
I really enjoy and appreciate your work. Thank you for sharing.
