    You are so incredible!!! I am a 76 year old widow in remission from metastatic breast cancer to the bones. I recently bought ukulele and discovered you on youtube. I'm thrilled!!!! I love you! Do you have tabs and charts that I can purchase? I pray you do but they won't be too expensive. I'm sorry I don't understand your announcement very well. God bless you. Keep on Uking!!!! Love you!!!

    Hi, I have done the Learn Ukulele in a Day, over about 4 weeks! I love your teaching methods so I have now started your 30 day challenge, anticipating 3 months perhaps! I have never played any instrument or even sung before but I am convinced by friends saying “you can’t buy happiness but you can buy a ukulele”. I am 81 years old with short stubby fingers and hope to become one of your successes. Martin in UK.

    Hi Bernadette... First off, you are an amazing teacher! I live in a small apartment building in a small town & the building happens to be for the elderly & disabled. We have somebody living here that plays ukulele & mandolin in her family band. She decided that anybody who wanted to should get together every other week & learn to play ukulele & that's what we've been doing! Your teaching has helped so much... The way you explain things just makes it understandable!!! Thank you so much!!!! - Amanda & Sherry

    Thanks Ms.B, got the download in my phone. Yes, I shall practice, practice, practice. Need to get comfortable with play up at 7-10 and higher on the neck.
    Your phrase in the previous printout. "keep your gaze forward", is great. Has a ring of a universally positive life statement that can apply to more than just the uku. The uku zone pictures are inspiring, such a creative community. Happy days as you pack things away. Very Zen place you have now. Thanks for doing all you're doing while you're doing what you do😎🙌🎷🎸☕🍰🙏

    I'm glad you got this corrected. TAB can be weird, and some teachers hate it for some inexplicable reason.
    I'm presuming that you will eventually get around to showing chords on TAB and melodies once you have covered note lengths.

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  Před 6 lety +1

      maybe teachers dislike it because it's a shortcut to reading traditional music notation. While I believe that people should try to read music notation, I think it's not accessible for all. I love that tab is accessible and easy. That's why I re-uploaded this one. It's a foundational lesson that needs to be correct!

  • @SeanVplayer
    @SeanVplayer Před 6 lety +4

    It may also be helpful for your students to know, (once they have absorbed this latest info), that it can be very handy to buy "bass guitar tablature" manuscript paper. For those occasions when they come across a song that doesn't come with a chart. I also bought myself a stamp to allow me to chart out the chords for myself. I have found this to be extremely helpful so I can add the chords I don't know to a chart, (chords I don't come across as often, so I need a little reminder of how it's played). Great tutorial as always Ms. B. , I look forward to tomorrow's lesson. Thank you.

    Whenever I want to play anything in the first fret my fingers hurt soooo much😓 I’m a beginner soo idk if this is something I’m gonna have to get used to

    You do such a great job of slowly explaining things with hints and tips.
    The A-E-C-G thing is weird to me though. It looks just like a fret board and you would think it would be labeled as such for consistency. Do you have an explanation for that?
    Otherwise, as always terrific video.

    B chords are so hard for me to do. With those flat fingers. 🙁 So whenever there are songs with them, I skip them all. 😅

      B flat is hard.

      My fingers are great, like my pointer finger is flat
      But the when I strum is wrongs

    How often are tabulatures used? I’ve mostly seen lyrics with the chord note above and ocassionally the sheet music.

    • @Markle2k
      @Markle2k Před 6 lety +4

      Tablature is quite common for learning songs where you are playing melodies (individual notes) on the instrument, or where the melody is suggested by the choice of how the chord is constructed.
      Now while Bernie probably isn't going to go into this in the first 30 day course, I'll try to give you a hint as to what is to come.
      For an example: while the C _chord_ is typically played on the uke with the C _note_ on top, the third fret of the A string 0-0-0-3(GCEC), it isn't always the best way to do it for a particular song.
      For example: it could be played with the G chord form (the triangle), but 5 frets up: 0-7-8-7 (GGCE) or 5-7-8-7(CGCE), or even 9-7-8-7(EGCE). Since the top note of the chord tends to suggest the melody, it could reinforce a melody sung over it that emphasizes that E note.
      Skipping ahead on the lessons, a major chord has three main notes: For a C major chord: the first, or root (C), the *third* (E), and the fifth (G).
      A C minor chord is C, E-flat, and G. The E-flat makes it a minor chord.
      The *third* creates the "color" that makes the chord sound "happy" (major), or "sad" (minor)
