Beato i love yo but itis jou mis a gud drumer
Love you
Love you and i will see us today
Love you and i will see us
I don't suppose Classical Gas or Sisters by Steve Vai would count?
My favorite thing about this dude is that he gets to the point and doesn’t have a bunch of crap fluff talk making the videos unnecessarily long. Good on ya
And he has white hair like ted danson
Mathew thats more important than the video
That is definitely a plus and he plays so clean.
Well said.
YES. OMG, when you open a video to see a list or find some instructions for something and get 15 minutes of what you were thinking about when you first decided to begin collecting them or something...
Ah yes the song Hotel Wisconsin by the Owls, my favorite
Brilliant
Lol 😂
I laughed way too hard and for way too long at that!
You’re cute
L O L !
Much respect to Nancy WIlson's playing. "Not even going to attempt it" is high praise indeed!
That being said, I was hoping to see her a little higher up the list than #13, but good list just the same.
I agree, I think she should’ve been at least in the top ten
@@gregdeweese2784 If her's is the only intro I can't play, she has to be my number one pick. Otherwise I'm disrespecting her by slotting her behind someone whose intro I can play.
@@fredstuckmann It's a list of "best". Not "most difficult to play".
@@camarofan7254 Point taken.
"Fleetwood Mac - Never Going back again" deserved an honorable mention at the very least. The entire song is pure genius.
And Landslide
I was going to post the same thing and saw your comment. 100% correct.
Though I agree with the sentiment, never going back again doesn't really have an intro, which is what this video is about. The pattern in NGBA is repeated through the song.
Be better pick than the number one in my opinion
Definitely! That’s the song I’m currently learning and the complexity alone deserves to be on the list
Dust in the Wind by Kansas...one of the most beautiful melodies ever
João Correia I know the guy who wrote that. Kerry is a great great writer.
"And not another minute will your $ buy "
yeah but the list is objective.
YES
What? No, "The Clap" by Steve Howe? I can't play it either. 😂
"Coming in at number 14, I don't even dare play it."
High praise for the technical skills of Nancy Wilson. Beautiful, talented, and still rockin' it.
so painfully underrated guitar player .
Don't get why Crazy On You is so low on the list though. Definitely way too underrated guitar player, especially for her playing style.
And funny, her performance in that video is a mess! She really is good though.
I recently saw a video interview with Nancy about crazy on you. She said that she would often "Change things up" so as not to get boring.
Even Eddie Van Halen admired her skill as an acoustic guitarist. She in fact gave him his first acoustic guitar and he called her the next day to play what he had come up with over the phone. The woman can indeed play.

Thank you, Rick. You play so well, are very knowledgeable and a great teacher. God bless you.
70s were so legendary, so many beautifully composed songs.
For a guy who claims he’s not a guitar player you sure are one hell of a guitar player. I could listen to your playing for hours.
Rick is a guitar player. He has been for years.
If I could play half as well as Rick....😜😄🤗
Rick is an awesome guitarist.
I agree, he is 👌 🆒️!!
When has he ever said hes not a guitar player???
I remember when I was in high school. I was nicknamed introboy, because all I can play are just intro of the acoustic songs. 😂
😂😂
Hell yeah lol, you’ll make for great introductions
@@bubblyproduction9809 😂
@Liberty AboveAllElse no, I was one of the very few people who can play guitar that time in school
@Liberty AboveAllElse It feels good to hear that kind of childhood memories from you. I had the same experience back in school. Playing guitar after classes or breaktime was kind a like our routine 😄
"I'd Love to Change the World" by Ten Years After.
Alvin Lee simply SHINES on this entire track including his magnificent guitar solo!
Man, honorable mention to Blackbird by the Beatles, such a great intro!!!!
When I think of great acoustic openings I immediately think Dust in the Wind
So did I.
Same. I’d take Dust In The Wind over Free Fallin’.
Both instantly recognizable but Dust is just a better guitar part IMO.
Bad English - Time stood still ... is magical.
Right? How could Dust In The Wind not even make an honorable mention? C'mon RICK!
If Rick doesn't introduce every song with "Coming in at..." his studio will spontaneously explode.
Lol
Why did you say that, now I can't unhear it.
KC Kasem throw back.
It wouldn’t be spontaneous if it was caused by a specific thing. Just saying.
@@williambryan5188 Agreed. Good catch. Where were you when I needed an editor!?!
I am surprised that The Doobie Brothers didn't make the list with Black Water, such a great intro and solos.
Yeah, one of the Coolest intros I've enjoyed jammin.' 👍
one of the best , and iconic song to this day
@@Thadmotor1044 Big 1044 on that one.
Yep, just said the same thing. So many of their intros make their songs immediately recognized as Doobie Brothers.
@@CWBella Like your style. 👍s Up.
Man I miss the 70’s. Definitely good years for music.
Yep the 60’s and 70’s. I’ll go ahead and say it. “Today’s music is NOTHING compared to the 70’s. What we have now is a digital wasteland, for the last 20 years or so. Listen to virtually all of the music now; there really are no music instruments in most of it, and really no vocals to speak of. No harmonizing, none of that. We did not know how good we had it back in the 60s and 70s, and how rich that period was.”
The best, people believed in music more..bowie explained it perfectly in one of his interviews
"I' don't even dare play it" ultimate compliment to Nancy
A sadly under-appreciated guitarist. She is truly amazing.
And yet it was so far down the list.
@@EphemeralTao
Her vocals are also underrated in my opinion.
Her harmonies on with Ann on songs like Dog and Butterfly are just beautiful. 😍
Have to agree! Nancy is, and always was, an incredible guitarist, vocals that were really better than Ann's, not to mention she is a beautiful lady.
Uhm...I actually find that riff is easier to play than some of the others...but is pretty much at the top in terms of being awesome. The hardest lick IMO was Roundabout, and Beato had to splice takes in the video to make the transition sound right, which is the trickiest part of the thing, and the part I have yet to get right myself - lol. The other hard one for me is Salisbury Hill, but maybe now I've seen Rick do it I might have better luck. Thanks Rick!
As soon as i saw this video, 2 songs that came to mind was Roundabout-Yes and Crazy on You-Heart. Rick is legit!
Looks like we need a PART TWO for this list :) Especially for "From the Beginning" by ELP. You already have Steve Howe represented, but man...that intro to "And You and I" is absolutely sublime--and when the rhythm kicks in...that part taught me how to move that position around :)
First song I thought of when seeing what wasn't on this list was "From the Beginning". Could hear that acoustic intro a thousand times and it wouldn't be enough! Steve Howe is not of this earth! Badassery! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Mood for a day
Roundabout was a sure thing to be there
Yes, agree, From The Beginning by the great Greg Lake 🌷 is the biggest missing one here !
Hell yes!
"California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas deserves at least an honorable mention. The introduction is immediately recognizable when heard.
Not only that but those harmonies!!!!!!❤️
Contributors like Rick Beato enrich CZcams immensely.

The fact that Universal Music Group *will* take this clearly educational video down if it dares mention the name of their copyrighted material shows that our laws have gone insane.
You mean they'll enforce copyrights on masters they let burn!? Karma train is coming for UMG
It's not even our copyright laws (which are insane in their own way). This is CZcams's method of enforcement of their rules, which is a whole other clusterfuck.
It's just an abuse of the system. He could actually play part of it, but if UMG flags it, CZcams will take it down until it can be ruled "fair use," which it undoubtedly would be ruled. However, I don't blame Rick for not wanting to go through all of that. So, in a way, you can blame CZcams.
leafbelly what happened to innocent until proven guilty. It seems like they have it the other way around.
@@lukeschannel2983 it's because the sheer volume of content on CZcams prevents actual intelligent analysis of the context of every piece of use. So instead they use a computer algorithm to just find instances of copyrighted audio or video and auto flag. Basically, they're using a better-safe-than-sorry technique so they don't get sued by the record labels and individual users don't have as much muscle to push them around and actually get the laws enforced as they should be.
This guy does a great job breaking down the rock music of my youth, 60's,70's, he plays multiple instruments and I really enjoy these videos, much appreciated.
Always loved Rocky Mountain High’s acoustic guitar part
Nancy Wilson is one of the greatest guitarists period. So glad you had her on here!
100%
The Animals guitarist, Hilton Valentine probably came up with the MOST iconic riff in the mid-1960's to the song "The House Of The Rising Sun." That guitar part made many kids in the 60's pick up and learn guitar. Hilton Valentine passed away in January 2021.
NO!!! MY DREAM OF MEETING HIM IS CRUSHED!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
rawblues - I totally agree with you.
Not 100% familiar with the history of the tune, but did he write it himself or did it already exist from a prior version? I know there have been a thousand interpretations of the song over the years but I’m not aware of the actual originality of The Animals version.
But it's not played on an acoustic. It's played on clean electric.
@@kamyar9782 ah okay, thanks.
Alice In Chains #16 is one of the best intros in general and had such a positive touch in it!!! When Layne belts out „Yeah hey I want to travel south this year!“ gets directly into my soul so deep that I don’t know if I should be so happy or just cry out of happiness ❤️!!!
Yeah great song, play this when driving with my sons.
@@leemele1233 cool
Jerry Cantrell creates amazing riffs. Super talented guitarist!
"Wish you were here" still tears me up, it came on the radio several times when I had a hour and a half drive to see if my father had passed away in the night...he had.
I cannot listen to it anymore . After my brother passed , I heard it n just lost it. Game over
@@JWilks-lk7thso sorry for your loss, man.
Dustin Myers Lost my dad 2 years ago. Not easy. Condolences.
Music is so very evocative - of the exquisitely beautiful moments in our lives, and the tragedies. Best wishes to you from a fellow traveller.
The day after my father passed away Time by Pink Floyd came on the radio, Pink Floyd were our favourite band... I played Wish You Were Here at his funeral, but Time really got to me because he died from alcohol abuse, he went from being clean just to wasting his life away... Time stops for no one, always say goodbye.
Give a Little Bit by Supertramp was always instantly recognizable and memorable to me.
Agreed...! 👍🏽🎵
Absolutely, How about even in the quietest moments
Almost forgot...Zebra " who's behind the door "
Stairway is otherworldly.
Iconic, timeless
My favorite accoustic intro is Genesis - The Cinema Show. But all these are also really great.
Awesome selection of artists Rick! I came back 3 years later and I'm listening to all of your videos again. I really loved listening to you play those acoustic intro's. I could listen to you play all night! You rock!
Roundabout intro by Yes has always been memorable.
That's what went through my head when I saw the thumbnail for this video.
what makes it great is the great acoustic intro then mates up with some seriously muscular bass playing, complements of chris squire.
Agree
More than 50% of the people in comments are confusing best intro with best song.
They are confusing it aren’t they...but it’s hard to have a great intro without a great song, socwe can forgive them. 🤣🤣🤣
or disregarding how Rick described the type of intro he meant, not just a same chorded leadin.
Nah, there are a ton of great melodic intros that people have listed that would work well this top list. It's all subjective though so no biggy.
Mccartney I guess had no talent for this at? C'mon man!
Great clip. Sweet Home Alabama, or was that outside your criteria? Not whining. Just asking. Thanks. Also, what about a possible double-hook intro, like Wish You Were Here?
A lot of these - almost all - have "goosebump power". As soon as I hear the lead ins there they go.
Wanted Dead Or Alive should be in there for sure
Man I feel the "Wish You Were Here" intro in my soul dude.
I guess we could keep coming up with great acoustic intros for a long time.
“From The Beginning” - ELP
My favorite ELP song! I liked it so much, I did a cover of it! ;)
One of the best.
@Michael Persico Agreed, and you could throw in Hey, Hey, What Can I Do which was written during that time. Rick could pretty much do a top 20 acoustic intros comprised of all Zeppelin songs.
caldude WOW, how could I possibly forget THAT!
EL&P From the Beginning 🔥
Babe I’m Gonna Leave You is one of my favorite songs to play too. That and Wish You Were Here.I love the intro to Wish You Were Here.
I think “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas definitely should have been in here
It's a little simplistic. Not a criticism as it served the song well. Maybe it's one of the 20 best known.
Me too... Maybe he just forgotit !
And styx (boat on the river) too
He cant play it
I was expecting this song and disappointed it didn’t even get an HM. I love the story of how this song came into being, Livgren was trying to teach himself fingerpicking style when his wife mentioned she really liked the tune and it grew from there.
‘Horse with no Name’ ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Fade Into you’ are all simple but amazing acoustic intros. Great list btw

"Kind of tricky to play bc of all the pulloffs"....plays it flawlessly of course!!!!
No kidding huh. Looks easy too!
bill nalder far from flawless
@@trijigon Well im sure you could play it better, but i like to give Rick credit.
@@trijigon ] Just STOP man!!
bill nalder me being able to play it in any sense is irrelevant. You said flawless, that has a meaning. That meaning was not reached in this video. There were flaws. Flaws that were quite obvious. Just cause you either don’t know the meaning of the word flawless or you have no ear, doesn’t make you right.
Great compilation! Yes, #1 was obvious before the video began, but so many other great classics in there. Loved seeing Boston represented twice. Subscribed!
The amazing Steve Hunter played the intro /hook on Solsbury Hill on a 12 string. Great player indeed.
Anybody else out there that could have sat through Ricks, "TOP 1,000 ACOUSTIC GUITAR INTROS OF ALL TIME" Ha! What a treat this was!! As always, thanx Rick!
Yup would have sat and listened all day. ;)
It had to have been nearly impossible to come up with your final 20 selections! Great list Rick.
Count me in on that!
A Rottie yep
Even then people would have songs they thought should be there. I was hoping for Tesla's What you give.
The intro to California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas has always been really haunting and interesting compared to the rest of the song!
Tommy Tedesco
The vocal harmonies on that are pretty nuts though
The Mamas And The Papas are widely acclaimed for their stunning vocals, as they should be. I feel that John Phillips’s songwriting, guitar playing, and most especially his arranging are vastly underrated.
Rick...I must confess I'm an old guitarist and have been playing for years...I get this guy through check point at the airport and he's carrying a Gibson case and heading to Germany.... So I have to pull his guitar and check it through security and I'm like Wow ‼️ sweet guitar, wasn't the typing les Paul but smaller double horned custom..... Of course I close it back up and return it to the gentleman and he's like, yeah its a custom Rick Beatto build and they were sold out pretty fast and I didn't even know who he was talking about‼️
Thus the CZcams search and BAM ‼️ There you are showing some of the best improvised guitar licks from the Aristocrats and I'm hooked‼️‼️‼️
Well done sir, well done🙏
Rick, I’m at best a novice guitarist having picked up my first guitar at 46. I always wanted to, just never had the time (or money!). Finally, I had enough of both and dove in.
I tell ya, I just love picking it up and trying to figure out new things.
Where you fit in is as one of my inspirations to do so.
You see, I watch a lot of CZcams. I hate commercials, and prefer to get down to it.
There’s something about your demeanor and passion about music that exists in me (just not as much talent and experience).
But, again, I heard your overall message, ‘Music is awesome’ it’s okay to ‘love it!’
I just felt like I should tell you your content is always as much refreshing as it is inspiring.
I’m not asking you post everyday, just when ya’ feel it, brother!!
With age, we both know, quantity just dilutes the important stuff.

The acoustic intro to "California Dreamin'" evokes a wanderlust in me.
This is number one for me.
Great intro, but just too short.
In case no one figured it out... the 70's brought the world some amazing music!!!
But also disco.
certainly acoustic guitar music
@@bryanm5233 BEE GEES FOREVER! DISCO WILL NEVER DIE!!! "Stayin Alive" is proof, even if they're all dead now. What about "love will keep us together" or "car wash"? Not all disco was bad, man. I don't know if it meets Rick's criteria, but the acoustic intro to Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" always gets to me. It creates a mood that fits the bittersweet memories of her time with Dylan.
It's a gorgeous acoustic piece, but it doesn't really have the catchy "hook/signature" to it. A beautiful acoustic intro, nonetheless.
Rick, your grin after the two-tap of HT is simply priceless!!!

The intro to Crazy On You has long been my favorite acoustic guitar riff. Rick may not have ranked it as his #1 pick, but I think it says something that it's the only one that he didn't even *try* to replicate.
Nancy Wilson is a guitar goddess.
Would have also like to have seen Fleetwood Mac's "Never Going Back Again" which is also pretty darn challenging.
Thats my number 1 for sure.

There's a whole bit before the video starts that's great too.
I'm 63, been playing guitar 53 of those years. My attempt at the intro of "Crazy On You," all those years, epic fail.🤣

I'm not sure how I stumbled across this vid, but I'm glad I did. Very nice and thank you!
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - From The Beginning is a particular fave.
There might have been things he missed...
The needle and the damage done
You see it's all clear, he was meant to be here
Trilogy was introduced to me in about 73 or 4 by my older brother. Still love it. Hoedown, sheriff.
YES indeed. I was waiting for it. Great vid though, he plays very clean
When you played Closer To The Heart I could hear Geddy Lee's voice clearly in my head
Just like I heard the electric guitar and bass come in on Pinball Wizard!
I definitely started singing before Rick interrupted me for the next song. lol!
And I could see Alex teaching Bubbles the one part he couldn't get. :)
I could pretty much hear the singer coming in on every song he played.
I started singing and then quickly realised that my voice is way too deep to get up there with Geddy.
@Rick Beato i would've had to put "She Talks To Angels" intro in there. It's played in open E tuning. It just sounds so clean.
Seasons might be my favourite of all these. Glad it got HM.
Lawyers. Leave Rick alone. This is how we learn and inspire.
Exactly
Why would anyone seek legal retribution for someone actually performing copyrighted music (and not just playing a recording of it)? [Edit: I've now seen the clip of a recording. Still it's educational.]
Yes, let people pay tribute and learn. But, don’t blame the lawyers, they’re just the firearm. Someone else is pulling the trigger and someone else makes the laws.
@@DJDisalwaysright boom! Yep, gotta look deeper. It's about destroying art. Inch by inch, century after century.
If Rick is playing this intro, think about the publicity to go and stream the song. Artists should be proud to have their intros featured. 12.5mm views. You can't buy that kind of publicity.
The first that comes to mind is 'Roundabout' by Yes. Also 'From the Beginning' by Emerson Lake & Palmer
I kept waiting for that Ultra Classic from ELP also. I mean he's throwing in Cat Stevens and freaking Chris Cornell even on the three that didn't make it. But no ELP? Come on Chris!
I thought the same thing!
Two solid choices
lucky man
The sound of Greg Lake and his Gibson still reverberate around many concert halls around the world to this day…
I had the privilege of playing a 12' String Acoustic recently (Minus 1 string, broken by my tutor, whilst tuning). I love the sound. I had to play 'Stairway To H', of course. Now in my to get list, and also to learn to play properly, along with a Mandolin as well. :)
Rick, this was fun as usual, and thank you as usual. I never like to put down entries on some else's list, but some of them are not very complex to play nor particularly unique in their sound signature, and come nowhere near other more difficult acoustic intros which are instantly distinctive, in fact unique, and in their time were much bigger smash hits. So for example, It’s hard to understand why you omitted anything from Jethro Tull, but especially Thick as a Brick, California Dreamin’, The Boxer, Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, the Moody's Question, ELP’s From the Beginning, Tears in Heaven. Give a Little Bit is equal to about 4 of your entries, like Free Fall
I really like Dire Straits' Romeo and Juliet. That acoustic riff is prominent throughout the song.
I was gonna say
This
That's my wake up alarm on my phone!
Yes that song is a strong contender. I think I’d have picked it over Dave matthews but who am I to judge?
Is a steel guitar a acoustic guitar tho? I don’t know actually 😂 but might be why it’s not on there. Definitely beautiful
Love the list. I think Emerson Lake and Palmers, "From the Begining" intro would have made my list. But aside with that I agree with every song on there.
I forgot about that one. Yeah, it's pretty iconic.
Yes my thoughts exactly! But then i thought of another ELP song: Lucky Man.
"Still you turn me on" is a great acoustic song by ELP too, really nice chords and changes
I Believe in Father Christmas.
THANK YOU! As soon as I started this video, this song intro was piping through my head, and I couldn't place it. I was wracking my brain, but now I can get on with my life.
Awesome presentation.
Music from my entire life and all favorites.
Rick you are awesome musician.
Thank you
Oh man! I so wanted to see you tackle Heart's Crazy On You intro!
Beatles, In my life. This intro blew my mind when it first came out, and still does to this day. So simple, so epic.
But it is not acoustic.
My top five Beatles acoustic intros would include the two he played, Mother Nature's Son and two others TBD.
I was surprised that and Blackbirds didn't get at least an honorable mention.
Yeah, In my life is not acoustic, but Blackbird not making the list took me by surprise
@@TheVefIt i think he disqualified it for the same reasons as Landslide.
'I Stay Away' is my favorite Alice in Chains song- I use it as my ringtone.
I'm gunna steal that idea, like right now!
Jerry Cantrell is God, LOL
Dust In the Wind? I'd love to change the world? Whole Hearted? Man, it's all good & I agree with most of all on your list - those are YOUR most iconic intros, so Rock on Rick!
of course it`s his list and not an objective. just like your picks are YOUR most iconic intros.
I love playing Babe I’m Gonna Leave You on my acoustic too. That and Wish You We’re Here.I love playing both of those solos on my acoustic.
Rush's "The Trees" also has a wonderful intro... It's always the first song that comes to mind when I think of acoustic intros.
Also the intro to A Farewell to Kings
La villa strangiarto
One of the coolest intros that people haven’t heard
Couldn't agree more. One of their most underrated songs. Especially good is he live version which is preceded by and linked to ''Broon's Bane'' on Exit Stage Left. Do really love ''Closer to the Heart'' as well though.
Can we just give this guy the credit... this is his list. He’s super talented.
Make your own video.
everything he, and everyone else said here is so cool! and not even all of it is mentioned! a lot of these i can recognize with the tempo, or the first 2, 3 tones, notes! (listen to them for 40+ years!)
So we can’t discuss, disagree, or give our opinions? We can only agree or make our own video? Does conflict upset you too much to grow?
@@eclipsewrecker As I said this is his list. It has nothing to do with your or my “growth”. His talent is an entity unto itself.
@@jamiekunz3761 so why are you even commenting? Stop jockin this dude.
With your logic this guy shouldn’t even make lists, because it’s not his music. Those musicians are “super talented.”
He criticizes on this channel, so it’s open season.
Rick the VERY best intro of all times is from Yes : Turn of the century from the album Going for the one......moving beautiful intense ...simply a true Masterpiece
