    Remember to vote for your favorite commander using the 'i' in the upper right hand of the video. Also, let us know in the comments if you like the theme of powering up some commanders that aren't exactly at the cEDH tier. We plan to build them to be as strong as possible, but with season 2 we wanted to experiment a little with the commander choices, so let us know if this is something you would like to continue to see.

    MISTAKE (DOES NOT AFFECT GAME): As a Gitrog player myself, I noticed a pretty glaring error- T4, Nate could not use the floating black mana from Bone Miser to Terminate Nekusar since every time he was went to discard was actually an entirely new Cleanup Step & the mana empties from his mana pool each time. This didn't really matter, since he had an untapped land that could produce the needed black mana & he never used that land before his next untap step, but it REALLY matters in games involving Gitrog decks, since comboing off using the Cleanup Step as your discard outlet is actually very complicated & tricky due to the mana emptying during each new step

    If Joseph had activated his Top to draw a card after Jordan's Demonic Consultation had resolved, Jordan would have been forced to draw before Thassa's Oracle's ability resolved and he would have lost the game, unless I'm missing something? (end of the second game)

    Seat positions mattered in this episode. Windgrace being seated before a heavy control player and after the Nekusar deck (light control) meant that deck was going to take a lot more hate than if Windgrace was seated in Marchesa's spot.

    • @mmissing3
      @mmissing3 Před 3 lety +1

      @@rileyney1431 She's not especially powerful, she just especially resonates with me. I picked her as my first commander for 3 reasons:
      1. We share the same name (my name Marc was named after my italian family the Marchese's, thus the 'c')
      2. She is the best Magic character, hands down. Read up on how she became queen, and also other characters' reactions to her becoming queen. She is sly, elegant, deadly, but also generous, even to her enemies.
      3. she introduces IMO the funnest mechanic Monarch to the game. I have a severly disproportionate amount of 'combat manipulation' commanders (incl. Marisi, Thantis, Pramikon) because combat manipulation is the funnest thing that i can do in magic. Keeps those particular decks at a lower powerlevel, especially now, but i still play them every chance i get. I have a tryhard cEdh deck too (Kenrith/Najeela), but sometimes it's just fun to swing, or manipulate other ppl into swinging.

      -planeswalkers: you have to choose between getting monarch or hurting my 'walkers

If so, those state-based actions are performed, then those triggered abilities are put on the stack, then the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities. Not sure if you'll see this, but I had a question regarding The Lord Windgrace deck. You mentioned that Nate could win with the Mana made off of Bone Miser, but I am not exactly seeing how. I'm seeing a few things, but not necessarily a what I would normally see as a table killer, I guess (Kind of the whole point of these lower power decks). Ob Nixilis, the Fallen and Splendid Reclamation paired with Squandered Resources to get ~30 triggers off of Ob's Landfall trigger, there's also Field which pairs well with Splendid and Squandered to make extra zombies and have haste from Anger.
    Are these what the win cons are or am I missing something?

    Gitrog Monsters triggered ability is only one card for each instance of whatever triggers him so for example if you pitch two lands to bunting inquiry you only draw one card from the spell.

  • @TheGobboLord
    @TheGobboLord Před 4 lety +1

    I guess there could be a mistake in stacking the triggers in the Order active player -> nonactive players at the Burning Inquiry at 11:25 - First Niv Mizzet Triggers Putting it on top of the stack (that was right) then after that resolves, burning inquiry resolves fully (and that means each player draws three, then discards three), then there are a lot of triggers that are put on the stack in the order active player to nonactive player. So first the nine Nekusar (three to each) damage trigger go on the stack, then the card draw triggers from bone miser, then the niv mizzet damage ping triggers. When Niv mizzets damage ping resloves, Nekusar is dead and he cant trigger when Nate draws the cards from the Bone Miser.
    I dont think those 3 life would've made the difference, but yes, that was the most confusing burning Inquiry maybe ever.

    • @keep7smiling
      @keep7smiling Před 4 lety

      I thought the niv-mizzet triggers go on the stack first, since the draw portion happens first.
      Also they already missed 3 dmg from the first burning inquiry and like 20 niv-mizzet pings over the course of the game.

    • @TheGobboLord
      @TheGobboLord Před 4 lety

      @@keep7smiling You can't put triggers on a stack while resolving a spell. You have to put them on the stack as soon as a player would get priority (i.e. after resolving burning inquiry). Then each player, in order, beginning with the active player puts their triggers on the stack and then you resolve the stack as usual...

    The first game was a lot more interesting than the second honestly. Equal back and forth is what generally makes magic fun to play *or* to watch. I think the general issue you guys have been having when you do a 'Hey let's pull back on the power level a little bit so we can see different decks and games' sort of match is that generally, not everyone pulls back the same amount. Here the Nekusaur deck is clearly a step above the table, with Windgrace and Niv being in the middle and Marchesa just having a hard time. Windgrace and Niv are powerful decks with strong strategies and synergies, but the difference between the first and second game was how many times Nekusar's deck got piled on with answers; it was enough to draw the game out but even from a dominant position Niv couldn't stop Nekusar from pulling a win out after just one really draining turn going back and forth with Marchesa with spells. The second game Nekusaur just got going and didn't get meaningfully knee-capped and just ran away with it.
    This was honestly still a much better try at the 'lets do something a little different' than the 'Tribal where not everyone was really playing Tribal' match from before. The Tyma/Thrasios was way further above that table than Nekusar was above this one. I just think when you do these you should talk more among yourselves about what you're thinking about bringing power level wise and you can probably get your next one of these pods even tighter in power level across decks, which will only lead to games that are more fun to play and watch and leads to more games where really clutch plays and skill at magic matter a little bit more and who was able to steam roll to their 2-card combo will matter a little less.
    Also, who knew you could take Nekusaur: an already linear, repetitive and boring commander/deck and make it even more so by just added Oracle/Consultation/Pact to it?

    9:20 Nate uses floating mana that I'm pretty sure should have been fizzled out. It doesn't affect the board much because he could have tapped his Overgrown Tomb and Blighted Woodland to pay for the rest of the Terminate. 514.3a as far as I'm aware in between each discard it's treated as a new phase which mana fizzles through, that's why the endstep loop for Gitrog requires all the cards in hand and not just to loop dark ritual during cleanup kill.

  • @Peronioz

    I have pretty much the same exact deck as Jordan's Nekusar, but I use a (proxy) Gwendlyn Di Corci, and instead of all his counterspells I have a ton of Bloodchief Ascension-like effects (Liliana's Caress and Migrain) to try and win through wheel damage in case the combo fails.
    His first game is my wet dream!
    An addition to be considered is Geth's Grimoire. It's a bit slow being a 4-drop, but it more than doubles every draw you get in this deck, given everytime someone discards a card, you'll be getting a draw from that.
    Wheel of Furtune? Discard your hand, draw 7+all the cards on other players' hands.

    In the second game, did Nate not activate Lord Windgrace the turn he came out? Nothing was mentioned. Similarly, on the same turn cycle, did Adam miss the Flayer of the Hatebound etb trigger?

    • @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG
      @CasuallyCompetitiveMTG  Před 4 lety

      Nate didn't activate it because he didn't need to negative it and he didn't want Jordan to draw cards. He just wanted to cast it for future plays. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the way we understand it is that Flayer needs to EtB from the graveyard as well for the damage to go off.

    • @Sliver_Boi
      @Sliver_Boi Před 4 lety
