Have you ever worked in a job that you hated? What did you do about it?
Yeees you in Toronto my city
I did last year. I worked in a company that dealt with sneakers, clothes, and everything hype in the resale market.
There was no work life balance there and I almost always found myself overworked. The people were young and toxic to have around so I quit after giving it a few tries.
Today I'm back into the aviation industry as cabin crew working towards saving up for my flying license some day!
Found a new one, not worth dealing with toxic people on a daily basis…
Eventually leave like all of us
i’ve really hated all my jobs for the past 5 years, but it has nothing to do with the actual job, only because 57 year olds shouldn’t be doing the kind of work i’m doing. i would love to explain my book to you
I worked in IT that pays 150k a year, I hated my job because of all the stress. I quit and worked labour jobs that pays 35k a year thinking that repetitive jobs without mental stress would be better. After 2 months I quit and went back to IT. It's better to be stressed at work than being stressed thinking how to pay the bills.
key thing is to find a job you would love to wake up for... but i guess most people struggle to find that

I do hate my job, but I hated all my jobs I ever had. I'm in my mid 40ies now and realised that I'm just not the person for a job in general. I do have a PhD and I work a well paid corporate job as a scientist, but it drains me and wrecks my life, honestly. My private life fell apart and I stopped dating long time ago due to lack of energy and depression, which is very sad. I'm longing for early retirement, that's my only goal left. Escaping the rat race as soon as possible.
Well, maybe you just need to do one year of volunteering where they provide your food and a place to stay. To evaluate you values in life and see what truly makes you happy, and how you gonna make that possible
I am 43, I’ve loved to work but I hate not being free. That’s where I get the anxiety from. I need a part time job and in my country it’s hard to find. I haven’t worked or dated because I was a caregiver and my mom died so I gotta get back to finding something I will love. But I am having a much harder time now finding my new passion.
If you aren't happy, make a plan with & end goal & move yourself out asap from where you are currently. Don't wait to retire unhappy, unfulfilled & alone. Heck, if you need to, cut down on the hours of work or spend time volunteering with compassionate & selfless people for the unfortunate of society...that warms the heart & soul. I've yet to see unhappy people at a soup kitchen, a foodbank, or a boys & girls club. If you're not into that, pick a hobby & learn something new. I so hope I've been motivating enough for you to think outside the box you're living in. It's daring and scary, but it's worth it 💜
@@rosameijering5161 I did this already, more than 1 year. Worked on a farm. After that, I needed to earn money again and had to rejoin the rat race, which was like a cold shower.
@@myjourneytotruth My goal is early retirement and I have been saving 70% of my income over the past couple of years to achieve it. Volunteering might come afterwards, but first the rat race has to stop.
It’s unfortunate that we as a society are so comfortable accepting working 8 hours a day as the standard. It’s a waste.
Unfortunately mommy and daddy can't pay your bills for your adult life while you do jack.

8 hours sleep, 8 hrs work 8 hrs leisure. Not true ratio for me. Work/life balance is needed for 2023. Seems like a lost dream.

I quit my meaningless 6-figure design job to take care of my mother as she went through chemotherapy and radiation for the second time. As I continued to take care of her, so much hit home for me. I reflected on my life and realized how much corporate was sucking the life out of me. My mental health had been in the gutter for so long, and I was putting everything and everyone else before me. I just got used to chugging along, and accepting maltreatment, and my depression deepened.
Eight months have now come and gone, and by the grace of God, my mother's condition has stabilized and she is getting continual treatment. She can walk again, and my dad will now be able to take care of her with ease. Now it's time to focus on myself, and hopefully regain interest in what I used to be passionate about. I have made the decision to return to teaching English abroad, as that was the last role that actually made me happy. The year I taught in Shantou, China was, and still is, the happiest year of my life thus far. Making a difference in another child's life is invaluable, and I hope that my time abroad will help me regain the me that I lost 11 years ago.

When man said he loved consulting I immediately thought - he's not been there long enough. Nailed it.
This really hits close to me since I hate my current retail job. I am underpaid and overworked. Crappy coworkers, managers, and customers. I’m saving up to start my own service business by next month. I just hope it all goes ok. Wish me luck everyone!

@Kat Baluglog Thank you Kat I appreciate your kind words! It is a cuddling business. I will be offering cuddling services for men and women. Everyone needs a hug sometimes especially in these time. I just love to hug and cuddle.
At 48, I can tell you that this is a massive realisation and the younger you are when you realise it, the better. Some people are just not made to work for others and others are fine with it. I wish I had known that and also had the opportunities (there were none) in my 20s. I only started working for myself in 2016 and I will never be able to recoup the financial losses.

In many ways, being "happy" is a luxury that has only existed for last hundred years or so. Depending on how far you want go back, but life was all about survival- you worked in a coal mine or were some laborer who took whatever someone would pay you, usually in horrible work conditions. If you want to go back just a bit further, you were tasked with having enough resources like food, water, shelter- to survive a winter, not worried about being happy. I think "happy" is mostly a state of mind and largely determined by what you focus on, but be grateful you live at a time where you actually the ability to do something about it if you're not. For many of those who lived before us, this was not really possible

Incorrect. The struggle to be happy has only existed that long. Happiness/contentment was built in with the old way of life. Survival WAS happiness.. existence WAS the goal, the only goal.
but the way our WEF government wants it, we will all...except for the few billionaires....become feudal peasants again working like slaves to pay the ever-increasing bills. No more cozy MIDDLE CLASS MAJORITY.
I don't like my job as a teacher but then i tried another job and realized all jobs have there ups and downs. That's when i started appreciating teaching even if it's not the job i like.
I realized I don't need to love my job all the time, it is unlikely you will love any job all the time, but I need a job that suits me. Anything that requires me to be commuting every day and in an office all week will burn me out, I learned from experience, which is why I chose to pursue work that I could do from home and on my own schedule. If you know yourself you can figure out if your job suits you enough that it won't burn you out.

I have to disagree to some degree i feel some jobs have way more downside than upside and vise versa.

I was a technical engineering manager in my 30’s earning over $75,000, had crazy deadlines to meet, I was rude and crass to the guys in my team because of the pressure to deliver, 3 years ago I walked in to work and quit on the spot with ZERO regrets. I’m now in my mid 40’sand I drive a bus,I absolutely love it, I’ve always wanted to drive a bus, the money is good although I don’t do it for the money it’s all about life happiness. It’s nota Job to me❤

@@skyhappy I was head of a future diesel catalyst development department for the leading laboratory in Europe, I still to this day have emails from manufacturers, VW, BMW, Ford asking advice- mainly on where their testing/R&D processes are going wrong mostly down to lack of knowledge of the incredibly complex test rigs needed to replicate results without contamination, and the exotic metals and materials needed to prevent ingress from these catalyst (usually Ruthenium, Gold or Platinum) in to the rigs themselves, you see once you test a sample of powdered catalyst, any powder that comes in contact with the reactor made from( usually inconel 725) the whole reactor becomes a catalyst so you’ve just written off a million dollar rig! Anyway I help but I’m done with the grind and I’m happy….. be happy in your job and you,l be happy in life

What an awesome guy, yes. His idea of not trying to do better than our capabilities is also great, even though it is contrary to what's being pushed generally.
This was so encouraging. What the woman at 3:40 said was profound. The idea of taking some time to be unemployed and figure out what you want to do could be really valuable (if you can)
yeah I am gonna do that starting this year June .... made money the last 5 years in a job I dislike in a location I absolutely hate with every fiber of my being. one perk is I can just chill on passive income now and figure out what to do next. there are always pros and cons

In 2021 I made the decision to leave the work field that I worked in for five years to start something new.
I’m grateful that I had a savings to allow me to go after passion and dream. Also a community (family) who supported me.
Two years later and I could literally see my decision paying off.

absolutely! when i was 23, i was young and desperate to have a shiny job, with a shiny title that came with a gloomy life. now im 30, i work independently and value my free time. i take time off all the time to regroup and move on if i need to. last October, i took no contracts and started an online business that started making me money the following month. i took another contract this month to make enough money to take more time being unemployed and following passions that can make me passive income.
This is what I’m saving up to do now. Be able to leave my job and just chill for a couple months without having to stress about money and figure out my next move.
I’m 43 and I loved my first job as a nutritionist for twelve years, but because I’m a single mom raising two boys I decided to go back to school to pursue a more lucrative career. It wasn’t easy but I am now a Registered nurse and found out through the process that I love this job too! I think it’s all about finding the right employer, having a positive outlook in life and practicing gratitude!
How did you know you would love being a RN? Or was it a blind trial and error.
I’m considering nursing as a career goal, but not sure if I’d like nursing as a position and if it will be stressful and fast pace?

This man “just” talking to people but uncovering the deepest thoughts we have. At the age of 80 I an say that I’m happy, can still workout, think straight and have a very good relationship which makes us both happy. Thank you for your videos.

I finished the video and what I can say is that for me no matter what they think they are happy for their jobs, no one really likes being a slave for someone. They may think they want money but in reality, it is the freedom that they are looking for. Endless control will hold back your happiness.

"You can only do the best you can do. STOP trying to do better. Can't exceed your capacity". That is one of the best piece of advices I have ever heard. I feel like greed for always achieving more is very prevalent in city life, but enjoying life should prevail over work. Shout out to my man for the advice!

I thought I should start my own business, but really never had the desire....i wanted all the money that came with a successful business, but didnt want to deal with ALL the nonsense.....i lied to myself, and regret that so much.....
If you are prepared and have sufficient expertise like accounting and taxes. Businesses don't run themselves and you'll be first in and last to leave. Even when you sleep, you are still working. But really, college sucked all the energy out. Doing really hard tasks for no money. Listen to your gut, anything whether it's a person, a program or a change in situation. If it doesn't feel right. It isn't.
As an Australian, I can honestly say that all the Canadians that I have met in my travels and at work have been so lovely. Down-to-earth and respectful.
Funny I worked in Canada over the years , basically just a suburb of the United States with 90% of the people living a mile over the border. Clubbing truckers and baby seals is really who they are

@@jerrygriffin7629 I've travelled a lot to the US and all across Canada, and both countries are actually quite different on tons of aspects, most particularly the province in which I live (Québec). Going from Québec to any US state looks like you entered into a different planet, while going to Europe is for me much less of a cultural shock.
I think the provinces that are the most similar to the US are the Great Plains (Manitoba, Sakatchewan and Alberta) and Southern Ontario to some extent
My govt job sucked the soul out of me. I had no time for friends, dating, hobbies, seeing my siblings or parents. I quit and I’m doing better taking smaller gigs while prioritizing my health and well being.

i work in a government job and i can say the same thing. most government jobs are not relaxing they are very draining and stressful with low pay.

I completely switched careers after 9 years. I don't expect to be happy with my job; I expect to be satisfied.
I really like the lawyer, real estate consultant and the guy who said, "do your best and don't try to do better than that".. droppin 💎's
I disagree with the last bit. You should always try to do better than you did last time, whether it's in work or life--this is what makes you grow as a person. I think giving that sort of advice is borderline dangerous and can send someone down the wrong path. People always underestimate their ability, so their "best" is usually not their 100%, and that can make people lazy and complacent. A famous example is if you asked everyone in the room to raise their hand as high as they can, they will do it. Then, ask them to raise it just a bit higher, and they will be able to do it, even though you asked them to raise it as high as they can the first time.

I am a dentist, and for or me it's the opposite. I work 50-hour weeks by choice, but it's the nature of my work that stresses me out the most.
I really enjoyed this video. I think so many people (especially young people), are stuck in the "I need to save up to buy a house NOW so I will reach that life goal"....meanwhile, they hate their jobs and your job is part of your lifestyle. I would much rather find something I enjoy doing, get a hold of my lifestyle, than focus on buying a house, only to be miserable in that house, and still hate my lifestyle - AND be burdened by the house now, which creates more pressure of having to stay in that job as well.

This is why at 19 I've decided to not go to university and instead get a qualification in fitness just because I enjoy it even though I might not be the best at it. This might be incredibly stupid, but it also might be the way to live a life I enjoy every day even if i get less money for it
Hmmmm is have a backup plan that includes an education because when you are up young, it’s easier to get school out of the way, but as you get older, it becomes a bit harder.
You're still very young. Try different things and aim your life towards that which you are passionate about. You still have plenty of time to "figure it out"!

Yeah but if she doesn't know what to study in school don't waste your time doing university and changing your major and courses. I have a friend who is 29 and still in uni because she dropped out many times changed degrees and majors etc. She has a job and works as a manager for an online education-related company. Something about preparing student applications to ivy league schools. She loves her job and doesn't really need a degree.
I love the concept pf your channel. Your questions are authentic. And if we think of it, these questions are simple but if we are not grounded in our heart and we donlt know who we really are, that true authentic self inside, takes time to reflect and answer those questions.
I am a career coach and I have so many clients who come to say how they hate their job but they can't leave it because of "stability"

I love your channel. I'm an introvert and I hate being around people, but oddly enough, I just love the conversations that you have with these strangers.
Introvert like talking to people too, they just don't enjoy talking to people about stupid vapid bullshit. This makes extraverted ones complain that the introvert is a "snob", which they aren't necessarily--they're just not interest in incessant jibba-jabba about trivial inconsequential bullshit.
I'm certainly not a natural introvert, practically the opposite, but my life has been really fucked up so I've spent almost my entire life in near-total isolation.

Happy is such a transient state. Hate is such a strong word and i don't think anyone should do a job they "hate". There are usually aspects of any job that we don't like, but it's a trade off. They don't pay us to be happy and looking for that "Happy" job can be fruitless. Look for things that you do like and less about what you don't. Doing a job well and to the best of your abilities is rewarding.
Another way of looking at it is through an employee's perspective. It is important to do something or have a job that you feel happy doing.
Of course, employers don't pay you to be happy. They pay you to do a job. But obviously, it would be a whole lot better and more fulfilling if they pay you to do a job that you do actually love.
@@jvkenshin416 That would be ideal, but if people only did jobs that they "loved", many needed services would vanish. Actually, it's happening now. There used to be a strong "work ethic" and people took pride in their workmanship.

If money is what you want, then be prepared to be depressed (unless you are passionate about the role/industry and have a desired career path). If you want to be happy then work-life balance is the holy grail (assuming you are able to make use of your free time and not just sit around being bored, which can lead to all kinds of mental health issues. Pick wisely and good luck. Life is never always up....that would be pointless. The duality of pleasure and pain is what is required to appreciate both. Good and bad dont exist without each other...how you play the balance is on you.

Theres levels to this: If you hate the people you work with you cannot be happy. But if you like them and hate the task at hand you can compromise. People make the party. I think about this alot, even a dream job your going to have bad days thats life. And even a crap job you hate your going to have good days. Relationships with other people is what truly makes people happy thats why you can look back on life and some of your best moments you might not of had alot of money. So much goes into happiness , Spirtual fitness, Relationships with people, Health and finances. Those things only aline in streaks through out life. Enjoy those streaks while they last and thank god for another day.

I tolerate my job, I don't love it. I love writing, I dot it every day after my shift, I want to be a writer in the future and I don't mind not receiving a single penny until there. Not only that, but I believe that doing what you love is very important as long as you can maintain yourself financially, and if it's not the case, work on something to earn money and do what you love on your free time.
There is a difference between profession and passion. Your passion is writing, which is an activity you love. Some luckily make that a profession as well but not doing so isn't end of the world.

I think i speak for everyone when i say that this video turned out to be way more wholesome than i thought it was gonna be.
I find it really interesting that a lot of people use their job as their persona.You need to look at work as aa way to make money, only.If your lucky you can pursue a career that you love. But We are more than our career paths ,but it is rare there is focus on this way of thinking. I remember reading that a person who visited Australia 🇦🇺, noted our way of thinking is differant to other western countries, in that at social events often the question of career is not brought up. The job is never controlled by a single person: market forces, customers, other employees, government regulations, economy growth and many other things and forces govern it together. Tying all this complexity to just your persona is madness.
I was in a job for 14 years I didn't like. I liked some parts of it but on a whole, the industry was toxic at a systemic level due to being underfunded. I transitioned and currently like my job because I started specializing in the industry. I returned to school part-time in the evenings and got a better one during Covid. A large part of my liking my job is the work environment's psychological safety. I learned that I can be good at something and not like it due to a toxic boss. They drain the company of its resources and productivity.

I drive transport truck for now but sitting at home since last one week because I quit my job. I worked in different industries as well. But not more than a 3 to 6 months. Any new job I start I like it because it is new and I am learning which keeps me motivated. But once I learned the job and it become routine then I can't stand that job any more. Because I need constant growth and change and if I don't get it then I get kind of angry and stressed out and lose temper. Then I think the time has come and I find excuses to quit and then I do. I really salute those guys who worked and working in one company for years doing the same thing over and over again.

I really believe in the mentality of we work to live not live to work. I think work should be a means of getting by but never jeopardise your happiness, sanity or health as they’re far too precious when life passes us by so quickly. As I get older I’ve come to realise I want to wake up each day happy and work needs to contribute to that goal…. Therefore if I don’t like my job I don’t want to waste precious time being unhappy, I stop, reflect and look for something else that serves me and my happiness.

What the guy said at 3:50 I believe is quite valuable. Realistically, almost any work setting is going to suck. If you have a strong foundation outside of work, knowing how to make yourself happy otherwise. Being able to seperate the two lives, if the job can supplement your personal life and allow you to have/do the things you want, There's value in that.
All jobs that you do will have challenges and aspects you won't like. The idea is to find something that you can be good at and then teaching the mind that this is what I do best and I will enjoy it.
You can love your job but also not be in love with it every moment of every day. Same as a long term relationship or marriage, it can’t be fireworks all the time. There’s actual work involved and that comes with challenges and compromises and disagreements and stress. If that’s all you’re getting out of it then you for sure have to stop and reevaluate, but setting the expectation that you have to be happy all the time with your job, your partner or your life is just unrealistic and can cause greater unhappiness as a result.

I refuse to work at a job I hate. Life is too short to spend 1/3 of my day doing something I hate.
I love my job, the people I work with and my patients. If/ When I start to hate it, I’ll know it’s time to move on.
