I can relate to all of this but I'll give a perspective from someone a little older. I'm 41 and I left my last position working for someone else back in my 20s. I saw your other video and your story is almost identical to my own. I started my career right out of college in an amazing position, at a great company. Five years into my career, I was sitting in a pointless weekly Monday morning status meeting and all I could think was "this is wasting my life." I got up, walked back to my desk and wrote my resignation. I started my business the next day.
But I was ready. I had savings. I had leads on contract work I could dive right into. I had a business plan I'd been working on for months. That was just the day I'd officially had enough.
I did have a marriage, a kid on the way, and a brand new home. But I was prepared. I always tell my friends about how prepared I was when they talk about quitting their jobs. But it's completely possible. I actually did it the exact same way my dad did. And my life as a kid was better because I had a dad who worked for himself and I wanted that same life for my kids. 13.5 years since I turned in that resignation and it's still going great.

      Facts

  • @charleshurstreinvention3959

You have to carefully assess yourself. This is my weekly topic for my own subscribers. Career. One thing that can really bring a person into depression is 40 hours a week of hating their job. The job is literally almost half of the waking life. The problem many people have is that they have a craving for security. The person will tolerate being unhappy if that is their normality. People would rather have secure bitterness than the fear of stepping off the cliff. The fact is that you can change your career anytime. At 40 or 50. I once knew a car salesman of 30 years who did really well but started to hate his job--so became a nurse at 57. He is now a travel contractor. His friends told him he would be 57 by the time he got licensed as an RN. He told them he would be 57 anyway. So he will now spend the next ten years doing something he likes instead of something he hates. But you have to decide if it is life on the sea you hate or just that ship you're traveling on. In other words--do you hate your trade or just the company you're at? But whatever you aren't happy with you must change and continue to advance yourself. Hope this helps someone---Charles.

New subscriber and I'm on a Vincent marathon. LOVE your channel! Funny, how I just watched "I quit my $120,000.00 job" and now I'm watching this. I'm working at a corporate world and I can vouch everything you said Xs 100. I am trying to strategize my resignation. People leave management NOT their job. I work at one of the most toxic workplaces where abuse of power is rewarded. Management constantly schedule unnecessary ZOOM meetings just to keep their jobs.

I needed this so much. I have been working with the same company for 7 years. I work as an online English teacher . And within those 7 years, I have been shouted at and cursed at by my students. I told management about it and they did nothing. They said that students will either like you or not and that I should never take it personally.
I came to a point wherein I forced myself to work, making matters worse. I cried myself to sleep and I developed work anxiety.
Thank you for being the voice I wanted to hear these years. Now I'm sending applications to different companies. Anxious to start again but I need this. I have to do this for myself.
Planning to move back in with my mom for the time being to save money and stop renting for the time being until I can financially support myself again.

First time was got married n had to move where my husband was getting trained. Second time quit to move to where I want to spend the rest of my life in beautiful San Diego after living 4 yrs in cooooold Rochester. Third time I quit to have more time to raise my kids while start my own business, be my own boss which was a dream I always had in the back of my mind. I always been frugal n hard working n a people person . I used the money we saved to buy my first apartment building in 1984 , then another then another. I create nice comfortable dwelling suitable to my tenants, take good care of them . In 37 yrs met a few bad apples but generally very rewarding mentally financially n gave me time to raise my two great kids with a husband with busy career and richly rewarded on my own right… I’m still frugal n hard working at 70 … your advices are all very wise for those ready to take the plunge or jump ship into a more rewarding life. Best wishes to you and your viewers who are contemplating career move.

I left the Army after 5 years of service. The first 3 years were pretty good. I had good community, good learning experiences, and I felt like I had a purpose, sort of. The last 2 years however, were what you described. Toxic workplace that wrecked my mental health, toxic leadership that wrecked the community (everyone looking out for their own best interest instead of the good of the group), shifting away from structured and purposeful work to more degrading, meaningless details wrecking my basic desire to apply myself. It made me realize that decent pay and benefits are worthless if my mental health is in the ditch and I'm never happy. Decent pay and benefits are well and good if you can be happy, but it's more important to be happy, even if you have to sacrifice your buying power.

Then I saved for freedom, enough to replace something if it broke, then I saved to buy back my time and give myself breathing room to make my own decisions about my life. Money for rent, food, school for the kids etc. We saved enough that we can quit (my wife did and is employed again) or move overseas towards new opportunities. Same advice I give on other posts.

Great tips. Risk management is super important before you take any final decisions like quitting your job 👍

I hate it- I need to vent this. I don't think I can take it anymore at what was supposed to be the "dream" position- I finally got a full time job as a Media Marketing Coordinator at an animal organization- PERFECT for an animal lover and creative person like me, right?....At first, I was SO excited and ready to learn and improve my skills. What really ended up happening was a disorganized mess, crappy communication, and a workload meant for an entire team is composed of TWO people. From start to finish. I finally realized how badly it's affecting me because of the physical signs like losing weight, hot flashes, heart palpitations, uncontrollable shaking, and more that I couldn't shoo away or ignore. Even visiting my parents noticed how frail and terrible I looked and were so upset to see me like that. I work so hard even worrying about my work outside of paid hours, getting calls and emails when I'm supposed to be off...I don't think there's room for compromise- I'm taking the risk and lining up a new job (scary) and once that happens, I'm gone.

my reasons are simple, high blood pressure levels , some bosses say you good, others say you do not anyway, I know this work is not something i'm really good at
and last but not least, is taking the most of my time and my energy, this is stoping me from follow my dreams to become a programmer, and right now there is familly who can support me by the 10 months i need to made it
