    Hello Flavia, Thank you so much for these wonderful, helpful videos! We purchased our female Caucasian Shepherd from a dog shelter/rescue in Texas, U.S.A., and while they recognized her breed, they did not know her age, or much history. She was found wandering in Texas when found. The shelter/rescue marked her as 4 years old, and at 80 pounds, this seems right to me. I am wondering about baths for our new baby, named Cassidy :) She is a beautiful happy girl, who obviously had some training from previous owners, but she LOVES to walk though puddles and sometimes returns from walks covered in water, etc. We let her clean herself, which she did.. Then I saw one of your videos about the proper way to give these dogs a bath, drying them so completely. Should this always be done? Thank you so much!

      Hi Janis! Thank you for your appreciation and sharing! It's a great thing that you have a rescue Caucasian Shepherd and that you are sharing your life with her!
      Are you sure the video about the bath is on our channel? Can you link it up here?
      We don't usually recommend baths for dogs, unless they go indoors and they get really messy and stinky. If that happens, drying up should be used carefully only if it is really cold outside or you need to go somewhere by car with the dog.
      Here is an article we wrote on the topic:

    How you make it possible to take a bone or food away from this dogs? And how to make sure to keep beeing the boss? People say you have to be conseqent, disciplined but lovley in the education of this dogs. But how should this look in reality? What do you do when the dog shows agression to friends and family members? I have sheeps, and im verry good with dogs, but these qestions are important i think. I like your chanel, you are feminine beautifull, kind and professional. Thanks!

    • @CaucasianShepherds
      @CaucasianShepherds  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Kristijan and than you for your appreciation! Please take a look at this article and also at the whole of our blog, we have many articles that answer the questions you have posted: www.titans-family.com/build-strong-relationship-guard-dog/
      The topic of the dog showing aggression to family members is very delicate, usually a dog that has been socialized from a young age and feels safe around people should only behave protectively around strangers. It might be because the dog has been left for longer periods of time outside, with little contact to people and this way it is accustomed more to use the protective mode rather then the friendly mode.
      Of course that there can be other reasons too, such as inconsequent treatment from the owner, distrust in the dog-owner relationship, unclear boundaries and so on.
      The best help you can get is from a trainer or animal communicator who can come and work directly with the dog and the family.
      Wish you the best!

    Hello Flavia, thank you for the information. I have a male that I had raised from a puppy, until he was 11 months old. At 11 months, I let my parents keep him, because I had to move to another country.Now I have returned a year and four months later, and this is the first time I have seen him since then. He did not notice me at first but at soon as he sniffed me, he realized who I was, and he calmed down a little. He let me pet for for a little bit, but then he tried to bite me afterwards :(. When I had him, I walked him everyday and treated him with lots of love, and now the trust is gone. Do you know why this is happening?

    • @CaucasianShepherds
      @CaucasianShepherds  Před 3 lety +2

      Hello Don! Unfortunately if the puppy is left with other people it is very hard to trace its behavior.
      If they do no get properly socialized in their growth years they will be instinctively aggressive to strangers. It is very probable that he did not recognize you totally. Something could have changed in your presence and he found it threatening.
      If you spend enough time with him and your parents slowly introduce you again to the dog he will be ok over time.

      @@CaucasianShepherds Thank you for the reply. He is slowly warming up to me again, because I started to feed and give him water. I can even touch his ears now. There is progress so I am glad. Also, I forgot to mention that I have a 12 month old female who is in heat, so that probably adds on to his aggression. However I am taking things slowly with him, so eventually he will that I am the boss at some point in time.

    You mentioned to be aware when they're in heat. Are they more aggressive when they're in heat?

    • @CaucasianShepherds
      @CaucasianShepherds  Před 9 měsíci

      No, we were referring to owning more dogs, including males. It is very hard to keep a male separated from a female in heat if you don't want them to reproduce.

    Do female Ovcharkas make a better guard dog?

    • @CaucasianShepherds
      @CaucasianShepherds  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It really depends on each dog's personality. Both a male and a female can make great guard dogs. You can read a bit more in this article we wrote: www.titans-family.com/caucasian-mountain-dog-male-female/

    TO BE SURE, YOU SAID THAT A FEMALE OVCHARKA IS MORE FRIENDLIER,TRAINABLE AND LESS STUBBORN. SO ARE THEY FOR NOVICE OWNERS? BECAUSE I WANT ONE.

    • @CaucasianShepherds
      @CaucasianShepherds  Před 2 lety

      Yes, usually females are more docile in any breed of dogs. Of course that there can be variations and exceptions depending to different circumstances but yes, if you are a first time owner, we recommend a female.

    • @CaucasianShepherds
      @CaucasianShepherds  Před 2 lety +2

      Hello Eric! Caucasian Shepherds need to be socialized from an early age and they will be very good with other dogs. They can defend their owner also, not only their territory but it only depends on how they are trained and socialized.

      Thank you for your reply. I always soak the dogs meal for (at least 1 full hour before) feeding them, this greatly reduces excessive thirst.
