I think if you encounter a dog like that as a burglar you immediately think about another kind of gig. That is if you live to tell. Maxximus seems like a docile nice dog but you don't know what happens when he sees you at night without his owner. My neighbours dog is a big baby when his owner is with him. Been living next to him for 4 years but if i walk into his garden without the owner present he'll still bite the crap out of me

My experience with this breed was in my dad’s neighborhood after he died. We’d walk the MS neighborhood we’d always be accompanied by a Caucasian who liked to walk with us. Always walked out in front of us, but always looked backed to make sure we were still there. This wasn’t even our dog. We didn’t even know who owned the dog, but he watched us like a military trained dog, which we found out he wasn’t. I have for dogs now, but if I were to get a new dog, I would seriously consider this breed because they are are very people oriented, protective and if you have crops or land, they will help you out.

My father has a rescue, white caucasian shepherd (called bear) weighing in at 82kgs and he's not quite done growing yet. He was imported from Russia then abandoned at a kennel by a moron owner who didn't want such a large dog anymore, my father made a delivery to the kennel and met him then decided to rescue him after owning Leonbergers before and already having an american and German shepherd. Do NOT get one of these dogs if you live in a small space or have no previous experience, they are absolute units and in the wrong hands, lethal. They are very intelligent dogs and need exercise and mental stimulation. Despite their background, he's a gentle giant (it's always how they are raised) and happily lets my 2 year old nephew clamber all over him and plays football with my 6 year old nephew, always aware of his size. The only time he's not cuddly is people entering my fathers home, rightly so, if invited in like Maximus, he'll happily let you in but will be watching!

I live in Georgia where this guys are bred , I had one of these , I called him batura, pretty normal name in our country , well when I was young my parents took our Caucasian shepherd to the mountains in the monastery where there are sheeps. After a year I hear some news about my dog and I was so surprised what happened to him , so the story is this that while my dog was patrolling the territory two wolves came out and started to attack the sheep. This giant of a dog started fighting them off and actually won killing one of them and wounding the other one which eventually bled to death. For some time I couldn't actually believe that batura did it but the owner actually came down to us and again said the same thing the guy that told me the story, these guys are beasts which can go head on against wolves

We have a farm in the uk we had 2 Caucasians that we did everything research told us to do. They were absolutely fantastic with livestock ,they ran free with stock until about being 18 months old where unfortunately we had to retire them and bring them in the house as pets due to the risk of people being where they shouldn't be. Absolutely not the dogs fault but you've got to understand 2 dogs weighing 12 stone + doing what there bread to do isn't great around unknown people. They were fantastic with known people but ours weren't 100% safe around unfamiliar people that shouldn't be there ,not the dogs fault but getting a nip of a colly is totally diffrent from these ..... lovely dogs don't regret having them but won't get another. We had 2 dog trainers that both said socialising is what was required and preceeded in training . Long story short in our experience its irrelevant how socialised they are if there around livestock they protect from everything including people. Luckily no harm was done. Can't reinforce how lovely these 2 dogs were with family and livestock but unless your in the middle of no where then please just understand what your getting into. Oh and by the way ours didn't take kindly to other breeds even though they were just pups when introduced. Both sadly are passed away now RIP oz and milly x

I always had "a thing with dogs". True to this day. Anyway, riding my bike to a corner store about 3 or 4 miles from home, I saw a GIANT dog chained on a porch.
This dog was big. I mean BIG! So I stopped. Walked up the steps of this porch like I owned it.
This GIANT, old dog saw me, and just wagged his tail weakly. We were immediate friends.
I stopped by to spend time with him. I thought he was lonely. Never even saw who lived there.
I know now, 55 years later, he was an Ovcharka. He was so calm and kind.
He wasn't even my dog. I never even knew his name. Yet I still think of him.

Even with their great size they do amazing work and you get to see just how fierce they can be. I am always cautious when people call dogs "wolf killers", especially when most of these dogs are being compared to European wolves and not North American Grey Wolves. Of course, no dog can actually take on an adult bear in a real fight but these dogs, along with Kangals and a few other breeds are outstanding deterrents and they do a fine job against European wolves. Their bravery, work ethic and dedication are legendary and respected worldwide.

People saying that it doesnt make them scared even a lil bit are delusional.
NEVER approach a dog on the street like all those people did, with your hand in its face or even worse behind its head, especially a big boi guard dog like that!
Have some manners, read a book on dog psychology, save yourself a world of pain.

I agree with that...was trying to pet a big dog like him...he stood silent until i raised my hand to pet him and jumped to bite my hand...luckily i saved my hand..and learnt a lesson

You can't approach my Caucasian, except for my neighbors, they have mutual love. If outsiders had slipped a hand to his face, they would have remained disabled. I live in Washington state and am looking for a bride for my pet. The parents of my boy, champions of Georgia and Russia

Regardless of its size the jaw is basically the same size with the same bite force of any other shepherd. In reality its not any more deadly than any other dog the difference is it has way better body for taking damage. Overall dogs don't scare me unless in packs. I've been attacked by 4 different dogs doesn't change the fact no matter how big a dog is it has eyes and i have thumbs you do the math I'd guarantee you id stop the biggest dogs in their tracks. Hell simple jiu jitsu would stop any dog. Big cats however scare me they attack stealthily have massive claws and jaws way worse than any dog
