- Dear Viewers, its with a heavy heart that we must tell you that the star of Animal Watch The Mighty Maximus has passed away from a brain tumour. He passed gently in the arms of his loving human Brendan. Today is a celebration of his best moments on our channel and a thankyou to him for being such a gentle, beautiful giant and showing how such a powerful 'wolf killing' breed can be so sweet. We are all sad here at Animal Watch.
The Caucasian Shepherd / Ovcharka or Russian Bear Dog is one of the world's most powerful flock guardian breeds which has the capability to engage and possibly kill a wolf in one on one combat. Developed in the Caucasian Mountains Georgia, he has a thick coat to protect him from the elements and stop bites to his neck. It has even been said that he can take on bears.
Mighty Maximus was the most famous Caucasian Shepherd in the world with multi million views on Animal Watch. People trembled as I met him and were astonished by how gentle he was around other dogs and children. Max was proof that good training and socialisation can create a loving pet as well as a powerful guard dog. We wish Brendan well in this difficult time.

Such a lovely gentle giant. Reminds me of my first ever Staffy (Butch), who was 50% bigger than breed standard, but such a placid yet protective brother to me when I was a young boy

Adding the word ''Ovcharka'' after saying ''Caucasian Shepherd'' is redundant, because ''Ovcharka'' is just a Russian word for ''Shepherd.'' As for saying the ''worlds largest'' - What? That's misinformation. That dog wasn't even large enough to be listed under this breeds average height, let alone being the ''worlds largest Caucasian Shepherd.'' My grandfathers female is somewhere around 32-33'' at the shoulders and weighs about 78 kilos, which is already about 15% more than the so called ''Worlds Largest Caucasian Shepherd'' here was and our male, Prince, is even taller and heavier than my grandparents female is and to top that off, I'm 100% sure that I've seen much larger Caucasians than what our Prince is, on multiple occasions on multiple Caucasian Shepherd meets and shows in Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Russia and so on!

I've lost several dogs (best friends) over the years and cherish every single day with them. I don't mind them barking or drooling over me because sadly, they won't be with us. RIP Maximus - Good job boy!

I’d a friend that went to Russia from Northern Ireland to work for a year at a power station. While there he stayed with a family that kept these magnificent dogs, he brought home photos and I was in awe, this was around 1997, before we had the internet and knew anything about dogs like this. Before I depart from this world I hope to own sure beautiful dog ❤️👍
You can't own these dogs, they own you 😂
Make sure you don't get a working line one with high drive. They can be exceptionally hard to control. Some are more pet lines or show lines. Some working lines aren't as high drive and energy.
Another beautiful breed to consider is the Cao Fila Sao de miguel. Mastiff type but a cattle dog breed that also has many of the great mastiff qualities combined with some herding dog instincts. With enough socialization there's no dog aggression issues really. They tend to love smaller dogs and animals if raised with them. Uber intelligent.
They however have an average life span of 12 to 14 years plus. My last dog was a Fila rescue from a puppy mill. 17 plus years 7 with me despite having a bunch of damage done to her. A breed I recommend as a first dog for a child once they're a tad older and can take on some responsibility with the parents help.
St miguel cattle dog and the Cao Castro laborio were also used to develop the st John's water dog which is the foundation of both newfoundland dogs and Labradors

You describe so perfectly the Caucasian shepherd. My sweet girl friend has one cross breed Caucasian shepherd. He is very. Big stubborn dog. He has only 1 mistress. She is the only member of the family who is able to brush, feed and walk him. Rocky is more the white version of the Caucasian shepherd. He doesn't like the other males he only like to play with female dogs. He wants to catch whatever cat who the balcony. He is really a great guard dog. Nobody could come close to the house door and he wants to protect her outside against stray dogs and human being too when they on Yerevan (Armenia) streets. But he is the best dog.

I'm sad to hear hear about Maximus, but he had a great life and was a great ambassador, and I' m sorry about your the loss of your mother and brother Anneka, I was caregiver for both my parents, and lost them during the pandemic, it affected me more than I admitted ,your speaking about the mental health aspect of losing people touched me , thank you I'm going seek some help 🙏

RIP Maximus, a truly magnificent dog. If had a lifestyle and home that was compatible with these magnificent animals, I'd surely have one... or more 😁. Although this fellow seems to manage just fine in a surprisingly small house without a ton of land, I simply enjoy travel too much and even if a kennel would take one of these guys for a week, I'm sure they wouldn't do well in a small, strange environment without their owner. I'll leave these dogs for kind folks like Brendan that can be as devoted to these dogs as they are to him.
