As I have mentioned on some of your other videos, I am planning to purchase the Note Air 3 C in the near future, as I will make great use of the color display and the split screen features. Hey Kit, the thing I like about the Kindle Scribe and even the Remarkable 2 is the Fountain Pen option for writing; does the Boox’s or Supernote offer anything similar? Would love to go for the smaller form factor like the Tab mini C or the Nomad, but the fountain pen option is so clutch for handing off notes to coworkers, it dresses up the experience better. My penmanship is great on paper, but on these devices it suffers a lot. The fountain pen option seems to bring it back to something that doesn’t look like I just learned how to write lol. Would Love your insight using the above products as I can’t seem to find any form of real answer

Thank you very much for the review! I have to admit that after watching a few of your videos I began to doubt the Kindle Scribe that I've bought to day, and for a good reason. Other devices look better and can do more things. When I was considering buying the Kindle Scribe yesterday, my main concern was to save money on the books instead of buy paper versions and it became clear today that that is exactly what I need. Nothing more, nothing less. I have other devices which are far more capable than the "advanced/premium" devices discussed here, so there is no point for me to get a far inferior device compared to what I already have as far as "non-reader" devices. I only want my device to do two things, that is read and take occasional notes if needed. The so called "premium" devices that try to be more than a reader have some serious weaknesses, like battery life, app compatibility, ridiculous prices and rather poor specs. Perhaps they are good for people who can find the use for their features, but since I only need a reader, Kindle Scribe is more than enough for me.

  • @chadbryson4252

I have both, (non color version of that boox model) and the scribe. One thing I really like about the scribe is the battery life. I use my devices mostly as a reader and note taker. I thought I'd like having the full apps under my fingers, but the slower responsiveness and super short battery life turned me off boox. But the scribes lack of layers, being able to use my custom music sheets for my notes, and being able to use different templates on each page sucks. If scribe would just add those two things, I'd be content to just use it rather than having multiple devices. The Supernote is near perfect (for my needs) but the lack of a warm backlight (or any backlight for that matter) keep it from being my go to also. great for in the day but for at night when I'm sharing a bed and not wanting to disturb my wife, no back light and less sharp display cut it short. holding out hope scribe adds the layers, true custom templates, and the use of different templates on different pages within the same note. finger crossed but not getting my hopes up. I love kindle devices, but Amazon is notoriously slow with updates

Thanks for the informative review! My main issue is eye strain. So I'm looking for an alternative for my tablet. Is this colored Boox Note Air3 C is really e-ink technology? I think he really likes his Boox devices according to his other videos. But the main thing to consider is what kind of application do you plan for your device? In my case the Kindle Scribe far outweighs the devices that Kit describes. He seems to need his device for more than just reading, so he is willing to look past much shorter battery life, rather poor or non existent compatibility to some Android apps and very inaccurate color profile. I only needed a reader, so other capabilities of these "premium" devices is actually far worse than some "non-reader" options in my arsenal. So you have to decide on what exactly do you want your device to do. There is no wrong choice here, just have to pick a device whose features you will be using.

Kit, as always, a great video. I don't know if you noticed on the Supernote A6X2, but the Kindle App shows the notebook and annotation buttons in the app. Part of me wonders if they will not eventually integrate the Kindle App with these tools to work on any Android-enabled device like they have the reading experience. I would be interested in your thoughts.

Does the Kindle Scribe go on heavy discount often? I always see it at $300+ and by the time you bundle with a folio and pen/stylus it comes out to $400 or more, putting it basically at the same price as the monochrome Boox NA3...

What security? lol Welcome to the world of AI. Older methods of what we understood as cybersecurity a few years ago are close to becoming obsolete. The rule of thumb though is if you have a sensitive document you should refrain from letting it to travel via internet. Even if you have an antivirus installed, it is very likely not capable of defending you from AI based malware attack. I think best security, if I had to choose would be a hardened Linux device with an OS like Qubes where your passwords are stored locally on an isolated template that does not connect to internet with 2FA, preferably with something like hardware key, such as Yubikey 5 NFC, your own VPN server/client tunnel on your router, a good open source firewall like OPNsense with ZenArmor for WAN interface and IDS for LAN interface on the router, another firewall on the actual device. Also, it is important to keep in mind that the more applications you have installed on your device, the bigger is your attack surface and the more chances for an attacker to find vulnerabilities in one of them. Are you using VLANs for your types of connected devices? If not, then any of your less secured IOT devices can become an entry point into your local network. So in short, none of these devices can protect your data. Not in the way that you would want it anyways. Any time an outside server is involved, you are prone to that server getting attacked, or the man in the middle attack, or possibly Java Script if you have it enabled in your browser. If I had to pick a way to send and receive messages I would look at Session messaging app. It has a unique encryption and you don't have to always go through a server. In the end, when you are using someone's VPN service, or DNS service, you kind of just have to take them at their word that they will not mess with your data, as it gets decrypted and re-encrypted as it travels across the internet, because you cannot really be 100% secure while outsourcing your data to a third party. Like how Transunion credit reporting agency outsources your private sensitive data to Indian call centers.🤣🤣🤣

If you're taking confidential notes at least Amazon is a US company with extensive security and bound by US law. Boox is a Chinese company without a known privacy policy, I doubt anyone is auditing them and Chinese companies from what I know are required to comply with requests from the Chinese government. I would recommend NOT using Boox for anything confidential.
