I've been wanting to do a linen inspired furniture look on the channel for a while now and I finally found the perfect piece for it. I asked over in my instagram stories whether I should do a faux finish technique using paint OR try to cover a piece of furniture with actual fabric and the results were split right down the middle. So... in this video I'm taking a stab at flipping this dresser by wrapping it in linen fabric!

Katie I've been wrapping furniture, walls, wainscoting and doors with fabric for years. I use liquid clothing starch, which is as gluey as you can get! Some of it has been for years. If you'd like more information please get in touch. I'd love to give you the information. I love your work, in fit, I'm about to "unfabric" two solid maple dressers and try to recreated your paint dipped/washed technique on dressers that have had fabric on for 12 years!

Chris Posin Thanks for that info-I saw starch/ fabric method used on wainscoting years ago and always wondered if it would work on furniture that gets "handled" a lot.

This is totally different! You did a beautiful job on this. The weave of the fabric is straight and your edges are crisp and clean. This opens up so many possibilities for changing the look of case goods! 🌸

Congratulations on your new pup!! From the brief snippet, it looks like an older dog? I'm so happy to see older dogs being adopted: there are so many that need good homes, and they bring just as much pleasure as babies (without as much of the short-bladder retention periods and the chew-everything phases as babies, in case anyone else is looking for something to convince them to adopt?). I hope you'll all have a long and happy life together!!! And of course, as always, the furniture piece turned out well! That's the first time I've seen this technique.

Oh my goodness, thank you for doing this!!! 💖 My Mom was really into sewing, she passed away this year (Cancer, not Covid) and she left us with all kinds of fabric. Much of it will go into quilts and clothing, but we have large enough pieces to cover end tables, bedside tables, make headboards and cover a couple of dressers. My nieces really need their stuff redone...One niece has already claimed the pinstripe (It's subtle, and Mom was a businesswoman, but why did she have so much of it??? Lol). I may even use some of the fancy fabric to cover the inside and/or outside of the wood treasure boxes that I make out of my husband's project scraps. Congratulations on getting Winnie!!! She is gorgeous!!! 😍 We definitely look forward to seeing her again!!!

From SC USA....Our Habitat has auctions...I hope your Habitat does too. People silently bid on the items throughout a week or so and then a few Saturdays a month they hold the live auctions.....hope your items bring big bucks for our jointly loved charity. So proud you are able to do this. Keep up the good work.

One thing- my mother taught me to do this 50 years ago. She said that you should always wash the fabric before using to remove the sizing(finishing starch) used by the factory for ease in folding and putting on the bolt. It inhibited saturation of water based glues or starches. Real linen has a lot of sizing to make it look best on bolts in the store and Cotton shrinks when wetted! It would be a tragedy for it to shrink after applied to the furniture. She also taught me to use starch or to water down Elmer glue all if you can’t find starch. You did a great job and it looks lovely!
