    This iron - on method of decoupage is the absolute BEST WAY to apply your paper. I would never do it any other way now. I just finished decoupaging an old wooden tray and I ironed the paper down onto the base of the tray, and then I cut away the excess paper with an exacto knife. I still use Mod Podge but I let it dry first before ironing on the paper. Love from Amanda in Australia

    Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included czcams.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

      @@dee6075, I tried both and found I got the best results with Fusion's Ultra Grip as it's pure acrylic emulsion and that's why it sticks so well. I was lucky enough to learn this I call Iron method, from a very creative woman, 3-4 years ago, and it works magics. You can do wrapping paper and posters over dresser, too. Just another tip, the surface should be painted white before glue (any glue, mod podge, school + water glue is fine, too, other water based sealers)... Glue will dry clear, but colored surface will distort the paper, if thin enough

    Thanks for the video! I just found out about decoupage while looking for a way to decorate my dresser. I was looking at lame doilie's and such stuff when I just landed on the page for some beautiful cocktail napkins. I looked at other's comments and they were talking about decoupage! I think this year for Christmas I'm going to get all kinds of nice gift boxes and decoupage them so they are decorative, but more sustainable. Our family loves to reuse gift boxes, but the paper year in and year out is such a waste. We switched to real fabric ribbon many years ago and we try not to destroy our tissue paper (but now I'm thinking if there's a better alternative to that). For my mom's bday this year I just got some bright colorful gift boxes with the most adorable ribbons... we will be able to reuse those for a while because I didn't put anything on them and just them shut with some ribbon. Also, how much easier is it to just put things in boxes and tie them up instead of having to wrap everything? And honestly, you can only use so many bags if you want a pretty display under your tree.

    What a great video! I love listening to you talk. I think I detect a bit of Canada. I am buying an old double wide and will be doing a lot of upgrade and refurb. I am looking for ways to spruce up the old flat laminate cabinets. I think I will do some favorite images and use this method. I hope it works! :)

    Kristy - Instead of using a brush on top coat - Can I spray a top coat on to avoid the wrinkles? Thank you

      @NextTimeAround  Před 5 lety +2

      Absolutely. And if for some reason you find it wrinkles the paper, just run your iron over it once your top coat is dry.

    Thank you so much for sharing this technique. Does it work with rice paper decoupage? Im working on a flat surface coffee table. I also would like to apply to stained Wood unpainted-any suggestions for that? Thank you

    can you do the same with vintage magazines? Thanks

    • @jaytee2642
      @jaytee2642 Před 4 lety

      I think decoupage is normally done with one sided paper.
      If there is printing on both sides, I think the printing on the back would show through.
      You could experiment with a newer magazine page (so you're not destroying a vintage page) and a piece of scrap wood to see how it turns out.

    WOW! It's been over 2 years since I last decoupaged ANYTHING. I wanted to make some Spring Design Decoupaged serving trays & was merely searching for a video tho refresh my memory on it's process again....& I STUMBLED UPON YOUR! VIDEO(SO GLAD I DID). Decoupling sure had come a long way since I last tried it with paper, & my project wasn't A1 Quality. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for making & sharing it. You were so thorough with explaining each step, that I have no questions! I also wanted to know if this phenomenal ironing process ALSO works with Fabrics? I HOPE you get my message, even though this video is a few months old. Thanks in Advance, YOUR NEWEST SUBSCRIBER from South Florida...XOXO

      Thank you so very much for your kind words. Yes, it does work with fabric...I find the thinner the better. However, a couple of people have found that their fabric tends to bleed a bit. I'm not sure why that happens, but if you're unsure you may want to pre-wash your fabric. I'm planning to try this technique on a poster (as it's thicker) to see how well it works. I will post an update soon.

    I have a wood bowl I’m thinking of using for a project like this.
    Can I use a blow dryer?

      Since the iron is also for smoothing out the material, I wouldn't imagine so? I would love to know the answer to this!

    I loved your video and the way you impart your knowledge. Lovely steady pace, easy to understand what you are conveying. How does fusion work for cardmaking. It would seem to be a very long process for cards or is it not meant for that purpose. I would though like to try it. Thank you again. Jo xx

    I put two coats down. It worked great until it cooled. I’ve come back with the iron several times, and I think I’m actually getting more bubbles each time. I want to layer more paper on this desk to make a collage, but I’m afraid to go any further. Any ideas? I used a nice Italian paper that I had ordered online, so I dont want to rip up and start over. Before beginning, I cleaned it with your tsp alternative as recommended, by the way.

      I'm thinking you didn't apply enough Ultra Grip. As much as you don't want to lift it off, I think I would run the iron over it to soften the Ultra Grip and gently remove your paper. Then apply another coat of Ultra Grip and try again.

    If you are applying a tissue paper just in certain places with most painted surface exposed, do you apply Ultra Grip all over? Or just under places with paper covering? Thanks for any advice in comment stream. I'll check back.
