  • Kia's Sedona blends crossover styling cues with minivan practicality and a strong value proposition. The Sedona isn't quite the CUV/van hybrid some of you are looking for, but it's far more practical than the average three-row crossover.

    Good review, but I wish we didn't always see reviews of the top fully loaded trim levels. Most people will probably be buying mid or upper midlevels and it would be useful to see reviews of those vehicles.

    I have two friends with Sienna's; one 2010 mid level trim and the 2nd an all wheel drive 2015 top of the line and have driven both. I considered the Sienna and Sedona mainly based upon the looks and bought a 2016 Sedona LX mainly based upon the way it drove, the looks, the price, and the great warranty. The first highway trip starting with under 100 miles on the vehicle resulted in 26 mpg which will probably improve a little after break in and when filled with synthetic oil, all 6.2 quarts. The vehicle is quiet and comfortable to drive and so far, I love it.

    We have a 2016 Sedona SX and other than an anoying cv axle noise when accelerating at extreme left or right steering angles, it's a fantastic minivan. I'm going to call it a minivan because it is a minivan. We are heading in for a 3rd pair of front cv axles now with only 35000 km on the van but that's the only real issue we've had in 18 months.
    It has very accessible fuel economy, plenty if power, very precise handling for a minivan and it's just plain comfortable to be in. It has an excellent climate control system. I would get cols on our Dodge Caravan but the Sedona pumps out the heat. I've found that all the control are intuitive and are of a quality feel. The seats are very comfortable and there is plenty if leg room in all 3 rows. It's a very spacious vehicle and ours is 8 passage to boot. Family road trips are no problem, even if you find yourself taking along some extra people.
    We won't need a van when we're done with this but if we did, I would have another in a heart beat. I would have to highly recommend this vehicle based on our real life experience. Hope this helps potential van buyers.

      Being a time serve mechanic with 35 years experience lm assuming you mean
      front drive shafts when you say cv axle you mean "constant velocity joints" .
      The only reason why you are getting excess wear would be extreme acceleration while cornering.Try slowing down your a family man and NOT a boy racer !!

    Latest of the Sedona in 2021 prior to the carnival replacement, it has a new 8 speed auto trans, updated dual projector LED headlights, more sleek DRL, updated design on LED taillight housing, upper trims have dual tablet rear seat infotainment, upper trims have double stacked LED projector fog lamps, no more DVD/cd drive but boasts a JBL sound system on upper trims, etc. to me it resembles a Mercedes Benz sedan from the front fascia. Especiallly in black with all the chrome!

    Never would have considered Kia 5 years ago but here I am about to buy a minivan and it's between the Sedona SXL with tech package and the Honda Odyssey Touring Elite. I drove both and while then Honda handles slightly better, the Kia isn't too far behind and blows it away in the amount of tech that's included. However, there are still some questionable plastics here and there like the flimsy cover for the top glovebox. Overall good job Kia. They just need to market this more.

    4:58 It did not pull the page from Toyota. Kia Sedona/Carnival is very mainstream vehicle in the South Korea and used as Limo/security car, airport pick up, Camper, Family hauler and keep goes on. Most of celeberties in the South Korea use Sedona/Canival as their place of resting living moving their work.
    Some Sedona/Carnival goes upto or beyond 100k for all the luxuary decked out option as Limo. Alex please do more detailed study.

    The Sedona has the best exterior styling of all the mini-vans on the market. I do wish they had hidden the sliding rail like Chrysler has done and really wish the seats were removable. Not having removable seats pretty much takes this off my list. I don’t need the full length often but I do need it sometimes so…
    Also while I know everyone says rear seats screens are no longer needed I actually like them as you can plug in a console for long road trips and kids can play together to pass the time. As of now I’m leaning towards the Pacifica although it is pricey.
    Oddly enough I’m also looking at the new ridgeline as well which would allow me to haul things which would be handy while still being as comfortable and roomy as a Pilot (2 rows of course).

  • @Falconlibrary
    @Falconlibrary Před 6 lety +2

    If I had a Kia Sedona and wanted to haul 4x8 sheets of plywood or drywall, I'd buy a utility trailer for $500-$700 and just tow it. Towing capacity for the Sedona is 3,500 pounds, which would tow a light trailer like that and all of the stuff you could load onto the trailer. If you get to the point where you're not hauling big stuff like that, just sell the trailer.

      @SDav21 Před 8 lety

      +Angry Whale Why does the US not get the Mercedes V Class? That is the proper Mercedes family van. The Metris would be the equivalent of the Mercedes Vito in Europe and other parts of the world and that is meant more for industrial use or shuttle buses for hotels and things like that. The V Class has a stunning interior. The Metris is a Vito and is more industrial. The V Class is very expensive though but really good. In my country a top spec V Class would cost the equivalent of 64000 US Dollars. A top spec Sedona costs the equivalent of just under 50000 US Dollars for comparative purposes.

    • @duranamo4297
      @duranamo4297 Před 8 lety

      SDav21 I don't know. I don't think Americans would like a minivan from a luxury brand, therefore lower sales. And I think most would think that $64,000 for a minivan is too much, rather get a full size SUV. But i'd totally buy the new V-Class if it was offered here.

    I don't understand what the US market has against diesel models. My 2011 Sorento diesel goes every bit as well as the 2007 V6 Kluger (Highlander) that I had before it and uses about half the fuel. The Carnival, as the Sedona is called in Australia, also has a CRDI option. As I work for a Kia dealer and have had the opportunity to see the factory in Seoul I'm admittedly biased toward the marque.

    Good gawd, I know this is from 7 years ago but, your review is lacking. Also, it’s not a neesaan, it’s NIS-SAN phonetically. You also gotta slow your speech down a touch. I found myself rewinding a lot to catch what you said.

    I’m not sure your math is quite right. Must be the imperial system that’s throwing you off…

    The "Middle Seats" Must Come Out... Bummer... That's a deal breaker... Major Bummer. And 3rd row headroom is horrible... What a drag.

    Whoever designed this engine needs a huge knot on the head for putting the oil pressure switch under the intake manifold!

    At this point, just buy a VW Transporter with the 9 seat option.

      America doesn't get Volkswagen vans anymore. The Routan was the last one discontinued in 2012.

      Sam Mehta Oh... Didn't know that. For a vehicle of this size, a diesel would be more suitable. Before you get concerned about the emissions, it's not that bad. The more performance for the given displacement, the worse the emissions are. If you give it a 3.x l V6 diesel, you no longer have a problem.

    135ft! Not an A in the modern world, even for a large vehicle, given the weight.
