Acolyte is our entry level mountain bike group, but that doesn't mean it can't handle serious riding. Find out more here: www.microshift.com/news/intro...
i ordered the acolyte after i saw your video! i looked it up and the shifter, derailleur and cassette was only 85$ crazy good deal and now my schwinn axum has a way better range with that 12-46 and i upgraded the front chainring to 32 for even more range! thanks guys
Thanks for listening to all the bike shops , wanting to equip a great entry-level bicycle, in order to catch the eye of the "non expert pro super duper user" market. Long live Microshift.
I was a bit dubious about buying this groupset as I've never tried any microshift products before. I'm pleased to say I'm very happy with everything. Perfect shifting and a rock solid derailleur with clutch for a fraction of the price of other manufacturers. Microshift definitely gives other competitors a run for their money. Well done microshift!!
I've just purchased my second Acolyte for my custom hub drive Ebike build. The electric hub drives don't cater well for 9+ gears, 8 speed is perfect! Thank you for an excellent and reliable product!
THANKS!! I have been eagerly anticipating news about this group since it was announced. I REALLY hope to see a ride review soon😊 unfortunately I hear the components won't actually be available until mid November
sounds awesome!! the allen bolt usage is interesting. I converted an old Deore XT 9 speed for my daughter using the internal spring, holds way better than expected. this should be even better
Honestly I see so much OEM potential especially for kids bikes and entry range commuters. When approaching traffic lights the gear indicator comes really handy and for kids bikes that often land on the derailleur the improved tolerance is very nice. BUT for aftermarket, there is much more potential for Advent, especially since Advent is only like 30€ more expensive. However: My daughter will decide herself if her next bike gets the 9 speed Advent without gear indicator or 8 speed Acolyte with. (My son is perfectly happy with his 2018 1x10 XLE setup with indicator on his 2012 GT) Anyway: Keep on building good stuff and serving niches like thumb shifters!
A while back I converted my mountain bike to a mid-drive ebike (TSDZ2). This meant I was forced to switch it from 3x to 1x, like almost all mid-drive kits. Acolyte was a great choice for the conversion, without spending a ton of cash. With the 46, this ebike climbs anything with ease!
We currently don't have a down tube shifter that works with this group. The closest setup is to use a bar end shifter with our ADVENT drivetrain. If you have more question, please email us at service@microshift.com
Unfortunately, they won't work with each other. The Acolyte rear derailleur needs a much longer leverage arm to pull against the Spring Lock, which means the cable pull ratio is different from the traditional cable pulls.
Will your 8 speed Thumbshifter be compatible with the new shifter?, I imagine so, Looking for these to be available, with a Surly stainless chainring and nickel 8 speed chain this will be a perfect durable cheap 1 x group set for Fatbikes for beachriding! happy to test a set as if good I plan on adding 8 sets to my hire fleet!
Our standard 8 speed thumb shifter is not compatible with Acolyte drivetrain. Because of the SpringLock mechanism on the derailleur, the shifter needs to pull more cable to create a larger leverage force against the cage tension. Long story short, if you are looking to use thumb shifter with Acolyte derailleur, we recommend using ADVENT thumb shifter, and pair the derailleur with ADVENT 9 speed cassette. (also use 9 speed chain!)
I have been told they will not be available until mid November(i am in Pennsylvania USA), i was also told this group will work on a 20 inch wheel recumbent trike which absolutely THRILLS me. I hope it is true
That's super. As i understood, it won't work with 8-speed barend shifters of yours? Or will it? Im just dreaming about dropbar mtb build on this groupset.
Not yet. It uses the Advent pull ratio, but the narrower 8 speed cassette spacing. So for drop bars with barend shifters you might go for the slightly more expensive Advent.
Hey Steven, unfortunately, we had a delay in our shipment due to the increased bike parts demand from the pandemic. Acolyte should become available for retail in the beginning of November. Sorry for the delay!
In the middle to bigger cog ranges, the SpringLock should have the same amount of chain stabilization when compared to our Ratchet-and-Pawl clutch. On the smaller cogs, you will notice a little more chain movements.
@@cleanestedits1 Our shipment for Acolyte was delayed for the US. You should be able to purchase from your local dealer or online retailers in November.
You should be able to purchase from any of the shop near you as long as they have an account with our US distributor, QBP. Most dealers do. For online, usually Jenson, 365 Cycles, Universal Cyclades, or Amazon carry our products.
It uses the same cable pull, but the derailleur cage is wider for an 8 speed chain. Also the cage is designed for an 11-46 cassette, not 11-48. If you want to use the same derailleur, I would upgrade to Advent 9 speed. If you like Advent X, I would buy the whole group.
I've been looking online and I can't find anyone who has this available. I'm looking to replace the drive train of 2 bikes one of which is my wife's and my old bike both have 3x's on them. Gonna be using my old bike as a the back-up/loaner to friends who want to get into the sport. I'm in Sacramento, CA. Thanks.
@@jst_luz_it Our Acolyte US shipment was delayed due to the pandemic. You should be able to purchase from any local bike shop or from many online retails in November! Sorry for the inconvenience.
The answer to both questions is "no." Shimano 8 speed shifters don't pull nearly enough cable to get a derailleur up a wide range cassette, so we used the same pull ratio as our ADVENT and ADVENT X shifters for Acolyte.
@@microSHIFTTECH thank you for answering! Was trying to search about wether the clutch should always be on on these acolyte springlock derailleur and couldn’t find an answer anywhere 🤷🏻♂️
@@microSHIFTTECH But can it be ridden when off? I have 5 years old kid and for him switching with clutch on won't be possible so I wonder if he can use it disengaged (and switch on when he grows) or should I buy no clutch version. @@microSHIFTTECH nice. Thank you for the quick reply. You guys have been killing it. I've been running the Advent 9 spd since the beginning of the year and it's been rock solid. Yes, for sure. The long cage Acolyte will work with wheels down to from 24" up to 29" or even 36" if that's your thing. The Super Short version of Acolyte is the one that works with 20" wheels.
@@microSHIFTTECH thank you for quick response, sorry I have two more questions. 1)Will the cassette fit a 130mm clearance road frame with a Shimano hub 2) are the shifters child size or will they work for an adult?
Not that I know of. It doesn't help folks that have bikes with freewheels now, but fewer and fewer bikes are being made with freewheels every year, and it doesn't make a lot of sense to release new tech for that standard right now.
Pity. There are a LOT of older bikes and youth bikes that could benefit from the upgrade but too expensive to have to change the rear hub/wheel to do that. A freewheel version might be desirable for a lot of the big box bikes to go 1x with a decent system.
