Labour didn't bankrupt Birmingham city council, what bankrupted many councils in England and Wales was the reduction of funds from central government. It was the Conservative party's strategy to reduce the so called social state. And what did the conservatives do with the money they withdrew .... used it on Tax Cuts for the rich. It was this transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich which bankrupted councils !!!

Some councils certainly didn't help matters with their passion projects of unused cycle lanes, tearing up miles and miles of road, or commissioning statues from artists, turning libraries into office blocks etc. but have no problems paying staff 100k to sit around out of sight making these silly decisions, or paying for hotels for "temporary accommodation" instead of building more social housing, hiring temps from agencies instead of full time staff and so on. Yes central government didn't help, we've all suffered due to cuts by the Tories, but local authorities had their part to play with the poor allocation of funds, just as we see in the NHS.
Check out council waste. Council pay for bosses, their unsustainable pensions. Everyone wants everything free, but someone has to pay.

@keicbell Sunak is not answering the questions he is just talking. Trevor Phillips is a model of restraint. Watch the 18 minutes again and put a stopwatch on how many minutes are just Sunak talking and talking and talking and talking but saying very little in relation to the questions asked of him.

How is that not a clear and concise answer? He even had to repeat his answer like five times before the interviewer accepted it. The only people worse than politicians are journalists and new anchors. The interviewer is a joke and cannot do his job competently. I don't like any politician but this interview makes Sunak look good in comparison.
The first thing he said was a lie, tax cuts of £900 for the average worker. I have a friend who earns £17000/Annum and his tax cut is £25/annum. The only people who will get a £900 tax cut are the people in the 40% tax band. THIS IS WHY WE NEED THESE LIARS OUT !!!
Even worse the £900 tax cut is simply a lie. The 900 number comes from someone earning £35000 when it’s been found that someone earning that is £500 worse off due to tax band freeze

The UK government gave everyone a £30k payoff, some may have had more depending on years worked down the mines.

Being PM is much much more than just winning a political egg and spoon race, we need a statesman with sound morals and a clear philosophy which benefits the WHOLE country. Sunak clearly isn't up to the job.
He absolutely does not appeal to Conservatives. They wouldn’t vote for him. He appeals to a small group of Cameron types. He was parachuted in Hagues old constituency, a place he has no geographic or cultural connection to and couldn’t even beat Liz Truss. Whenever the interviewer cuts in he becomes increasingly tetchy, which makes for a frustrating and painful experience for the viewer.
