On Couturier, I'd like to hear what other options Torts had for holding him accountable as a player and captain.
Couturier was in a big funk production-wise and it was starting to impact his defensive game as well.
Is Torts supposed to be more patient and let Couturier work through it longer? Torts is expected to get this team to win games, develop the culture for success and identify what players are going to be part of that puzzle and who is not.

Drysdale already pretty much admitted he needs surgery. I don't believe he will be ready to play by game #1.
Its definitely appropriate to classify him as a project. His #'s were so awful this year that he cannot possibly be considered an elite player unless some kind of miracle happens.
That's why its absurdly stupid to spend money and term on a veteran replacement. Drysdale as well as Andrae and Attard are already here, and all display various qualities of PP D-man. Simply changing the coach will do wonders.
In An actual rebuild you give your kids a chance and then see if they can turn into something. This team however makes a guy like Ronnie Attard wait until his AGE 25 season until he's actually given an opportunity, and sign vets who won't be here in 3 years in the meantime. Its maddening and antithetical to a true rebuild.
To think that they might AGAIN sign someone to block these underrated young defenceman for yet another year is mind numbing. Other teams are led by a multitude of young diamonds in the rough, while we continue to make ours wait 2 years too long in the minors...

The flyers team I felt most connected to was the mid 80s teams. Those were amazing teams with no major super stars (maybe Howe) but filled with talented and tough players that would go through a wall to win.
Those were the epitome of Flyers teams. Bunch of lunch bucket blue collar guys taking the mighty star studded Oilers to 7 in the cup final.

Seasons like this are why the flyers have been mediocre for... Decades. Everyone now thinks they are a piece or two away from being a contender.
The obvious move is to send tk away as his value is huge.
I’m actively rooting for Gauthier to suck. Partially because of how he disrespected the team. Partially because I’m not sure the return we got will make us regret the trade.
That scouting angle is weak. They picked a high end player at 5. They traded that player for a small Dman that hasn’t looked good and has been injured. So….. good scouting going an easy lay up at 5 but bad scouting getting a ? In return.
Crazy that Torts’ treatment of Hayes caused us to lose the second best prospect in hockey.
If Petersen is still a thing next season Briere needs math lessons.
Torts benching Frost, he just couldn’t help himself, reveals much; exc. coach for setting disciplined play, but poison for morale. Wonder if Michkov is observing this?..the lack of power play cost the playoffs over goaltending; the pp was bottom feeder entire yr, we had solid goaltending til Hart’s sitch.

worst pp in nhl history I believe. 1st move is to change PP coach. Bring in PP specialist coach. Then focus on making Frost pp specialist player but needs more talent on ice for pp.
There is zero chance Sanheim has gotten over the way he was treated, & his failed trade. There is zero chance that TK was ok w that treatment. Frost, Farabee, Coots, & Brink all have BFF’s on the team. Zero chance they are cool w their friends being publicly demeaned. I highly doubt they would tolerate the toxicity for long. Im sure that would stand up for each other, in some way.😉
They are a good group that needs a #1C & a true #2C. That would really boost Tippett, Farabee, Foerster & TK’s production. Not to mention that would help the league worst PP (2 yrs in a row). How can they be fairly judged when they are set up to fail? Rocky needs to be fired. Brad Shaw is the reason for this team’s success. We can’t let him go this summer. We should make him the coach. Torts is a clown show at this point, that is costing the organization more than what he brings.
I never said Andrae could FIX the PP. Simply saying that signing a veteran to a multi year deal at this stage of a "Rebuild" is asinine. Signing a vet would keep him in the minors, and continue their absurd thinking that every prospect needs 3 full years of juniors and 3 full years of AHL time. Which has not worked to this point to unearth any diamonds in the rough.

The Tortorella Courturier crap is so overblown. Couturier is done. He's not going to get any better and Tortorella was right. Any players who "give up" over that need to be as far away from the NHL as possible. Move on.
you bring up Johansson, this is part of Walker trade, and why i think it was a bad trade; it wasn’t just Walker for a first rounder (out of top ten) we took on Aves liability; Aves know they put one over. Walker is only 29 and he’s a solid reliable D.
hated the Walker trade and has me wondering about Briere and company. I think the pick will be the 29th pick in the first round this year. How can you possibly think getting a very late first rounder is worth a 29 year old very solid, proven NHL right handed defenseman? A late first rounder may never play in the NHL, say German Rubstov. At best a late first rounder may make it to the NHL in five years and be a bottom six forward or stay at home defenseman. And it also sent a terrible message to players and fans that despite how well the team was playing they didn't care about making the playoffs. Personally, I think making the playoffs would have been way more important for the future success of this franchise than all the stupidity about sacrificing the present for the future.
@@willcc5074 Its obvious why the Flyers didn't want to make the playoffs: they can't afford to sign Konecny to an extension. This way they have a cover story: "we're rebuilding so it makes sense to trade Konecny for draft picks".......Konency pretty much already admitted in his exit interview that he's going to be traded sometime in the next year. So the truth is the rebuild hasn't even started yet. Because I don't believe michkov is ever coming here and Fedotov and Kolosov are probably nothing special. Kolosov has played 1 game with the phantoms and allowed 4 goals on 28 shots, .857 save percentage for 1 game.
The Flyers have missed the playoffs 4 straight years and appear to be happy to miss them several more in a row.

Walker has been bad every single year of his career except for this one (During his contract year HMMMMMMMMM). To think he will play at this level at any point again over the next 6 years is straight up foolish. Once he gets paid he will revert back to his usual self. Getting a 1st for that is massive every day of the week.
Also its next years 1st people, keep up.
Torts antics are not conducive to building confidence and giving younger talented players a fair opportunity especially in a rebuild.
The improvements in the team were the players making a natural progression, despite the poor coaching.
If lots of players “naturally” progress simultaneously. One could argue their environment (coaching) could be involved
Controversial opinion here: they should try to resign Walker for 4/5 years. It’s clear the defense is much better with him which helps give the goalies confidence…. And if Ersson is part of the future that has real value. And since Torts ended up playing Johnson and Staal anyway, just spend the extra 6 mil on an actual competent vet vs the minimum for guys we know don’t move the defensive needle.
