- On Friday, the Philadelphia Flyers officially closed the book on the 2023-24 season with media availability for head coach John Tortorella and General Manager Danny Briere.
Bill & Charlie share their reactions to the day’s news, including the fact that Rocky Thompson will be returning to coach the power play despite historically bad results in his first 2 seasons, and that Ivan Fedotov and Sam Ersson will be the goalie tandem next year, in all likelihood.

You guys are missing the point. If you guys didn't know it at the time I did but when Hart left I knew we were in big trouble! And then you add trading Walker at the deadline for a 1st round pick. Couple that with Risto going down Seeler & Drysdale going down with injuries you can talk buttons all day long to make a show but there weren't any buttons left to push in fact the whole fricken keyboard was gone! It's a shame they missed but it's clear why that stumbled down the stretch. Especially with Couts and Cam completely out of gas! That's it folks! Next show!

I also found it interesting what Fanny said about Frosty praising him and sounding like he is safe to stay next year. Does Torts feel the same? I think he does but just was frustrated w hjs play at end though he needed to be out there anyway to have a Chance to win

Was Rocky T a big influence at least in the style of play w the transition game and flipping the pucks? If so that is a major positive as a coach since Torts said he got w the coaches to come up w this style of play. That was a great improvement
i would bet turning the offense around was entirely rocky
A lot of the pp conversation, rocky being inadequate, unqualified and useless is probably somewhat justified. BUT some of the talented players arent adequate PP Players, its a unique skillset. Prime example - Konecny is our best scorer but he isnt a great pp guy. Not many teams suffer from that problem, but we do. Charlie constantly referencing the SJ sharks points more towards my point than his. Powerplays are not just a pure on paper talent competition. Its chemistry, mix, individual players being mentally able to process a powerplay and of course coaching
I am not sure Torts is the right coach for all situations. Maybe he should move down to the end of the bench during the power play, third period and overtime... and maybe let someone else coach during these situations, some one like GRITTY?
Why would they sign TK? 1. He’s not anywhere near worth what he’s gonna get paid 2. By the time they’re good enough to compete he will be 30 and breaking down and 3. His value has never been higher. Please trade him and Laughton.

@@kod8933 Yeah sure it gets you a decent defenseman. Problem is then the Flyers really tank because its just easy for other teams to concentrate on tippet. How is it possible to get a good offensive forward in return?
@@JoeAnton-rl4ds plenty of markets on players. For instance this year Mittelstadt over in BUF was on the chopping block. Zegras over in ANA also. Or rather you use TK to move up the draft table to teams like Buffalo or Ottawa that are desperate to start entering the playoffs again and with that higher pick select either one of the highly rated Dmen like Silayev or Buium, or a center like Catton or Helenius. Or packaged deals with TK+ in order to move him for a young A+ prospect or TK straight up for multiple picks. If Sean Walker was able to fetch a 1st and 1 remaining year of a bad deal, TK can go for premium. Him and Laughton should be available this summer
@@JoeAnton-rl4ds also them "really tanking" is good for the future of the franchise. Imagine next year getting into the Top 7 or maybe even winning a lottery spot for 1, 2, or 3. So instead of banking solely on Michkov to carry, you add another guy like Michael Misa at center for your potential 1C star. Thinking long term I'd rather have the chance at getting a 1C level guy for Michkov that will be a pair for a decade, over aging TK

I don't want this rebuild to be a Buffalo Sabers rebuild or even an Edmonton Oilers rebuild. Buffalo still has yet to make the playoffs, and Edmonton sucked for quite a long time until they got McDavid and Draisaitl. If that happens, the Flyers will be relocating to another state. This fan base isn't as loyal as it once was.
Danny basically confirmed this team will be mediocre for years to come. I do believe in our wingers, but they need a high end center to improve, & they need it now. He was gaslighting when he said it’s
too early to tell who is going to be available this summer. There are 3 young high end centers reportedly ALREADY on the trade block. Zegras drafted #9 2019, Kent Johnson drafted #5 2021, Martin Necas drafted #12 2017. Zegras w Tippett & Farabee or Foerster would be wild.
Supposedly the rules are changing this summer in Russia & all “elite” U21 players will have 5 years added to their 3 yr contracts. If that is true, Michkov wouldn’t be here for 7yrs. He said he wanted to play here this summer. If the Flyers won’t help facilitate getting him here when he wants. He will find a team that will, & force a trade. I can think of a team he would definitely be released to tomorrow if he wanted. I bet that team will send their all star to recruit him over the summer. Oh & that teams top prospect won’t come here bc he is friends w Cutter.
might as well get rid of Laughton, Coots, Atkinson, Frost and for that matter TK since nothing on this team will happen for many years. Its going to be Arizona Coyotes because they have no base to build on. No stars, no hitters. Just undersized forwards that can't get the job done.
The rebuild goes as long as Michkov stays in Russia. You aren't competing for anything until then and I'm totally fine with that. If that takes 2 more years so be it, but I would make Konecny available if so. Whether it's a summer trade or they take it to the deadline they will get an absolute haul for him to further the rebuild. Makes no sense to be in year 3 of his contract until they're actually competing for something.
