So much of what they're talking about is what you've gotten for years from many Tortorella teams. Limit the chances against, block a lot of shots, don't give up a ton offensively, but struggle on the PP, have a tough time putting up 3 or more goals per game, and not necessarily letting your high end offensive players do their thing to maximize their production. (That last part also applies to more skilled teams that Tortorella has coached).

One of the flyers biggest power play problems is every team knows they suck and can pressure relentlessly

They need a net front presence to help with the pp. that and they need players to work on one timers, don’t have to be ovi but they need that option to keep teams and goalies on their heels

Benching Coo's the worst move. And acting like a child not leaving the bench

I think the PP suffers most from poor shot choice and poor shooting - fun fact but in 17 games here Erik Johnson had a higher shooting % than Owen Tippett, despite Tipps having one of his best shooting seasons to date. (still sub-10%).. We need him to turn that volume into more goals. We have a lot of dangerous natural 'RW' players but that is about it. We also need better offense from Coots, it was good he finished the entire season (and I think will be better next season) but in truth his offensive numbers were extremely rough. Same with Cates but to a more drastic extent. Farabee's underlying stats weren't bad but he was very inconsistent which hurt later in the season. I do think Brink and Frost could each be great at coordinating PP puck movement from the walls or down low (ahem, NOT net front) - but we need shooters to finish plays, OR bodies in front to clean up the garbage. (the Wayne Simmonds special, if you will)

You know what you're talking about. players who are slick with the puck create room for shooters on the Power play. Look at Eichel in LV, Kucherov in Tampa, Backstrom in Washington, etc. Not saying that Frost or Brink are as good as those guys yet, but, we also need to be able to set up the shooters we do have. Tippett, Forester and Koneckny should be lighting it up on the Power play. Unfortunately, in my opinion (due to poor coaching of the Power Play), those good shooters aren't seeing the looks that they should. But a quy like Simmonds in front (Simmonds as you adroitly pointed out) is also needed to bury the rebounds. We need to find that guy. Not to mention, the cannon from the point would be nice.

Noah Cates, for all his effort and hard work, should never be on a Power Play, but since all our big guns couldn't do anything, there was no reason not to play him out there.
