  • Do you feel like your bike isn't the right size for you? A bike fit might answer your problems! The way a bike fits you is often more important than the bike itself, some mountain bikers understand the importance of a bike fit and skeptics think it's just another marketing ploy by the bike industry. Rich Payne has been doing a lot of long-distance cross-country riding over the past few years and wanted to find out more about key MTB bike fit adjustments to ensure his riding position is as comfortable and efficient as possible.

For anyone who gets sore palms on long rides: This plagued me for years and about 18 months ago I tried the Ergon grips with the "wings" favoured by round the world type cyclists.
GP1 is the model I have (It looked like SQ had something similar) but there's many different configurations/sizes.
Its a complete winner and I don't have the pain anymore , quick easy and fairly cheap fix, that's made my ridding so much more enjoyable. 🙂
Also bars with more back sweep like they said in the video was another winner for me.
Hope this helps somebody out. 👍

i tried those years ago... worked to relieve the exact point of pain in my hands but caused a mayor problems in terms of the main gripping strength ... it was a nightmare in heavy rocky terrains so I finally went for good quality silicon grip. I totally understand the benefits for someone more marathon oriented thou

I have been testing the SQLab 611 ERGOWAVE for the past month and also the CHROMAG Trailmaster LTD. Both feel great, but you definitely need to get the tilt dialed, as even the slightest over or under-tilt makes a big difference. Also, I am a huge believer in backswept bars. Been running 20 degree back-sweep, 780mm bars for quite a few years and they are just right for me.

I have to say there is a reason to use round grips for certain situation you employ different hand positions. So having either ergonomic or round grips is a compromise but, the length, diameter and grip material can all be the same.

Everything's changed now though its been a goot 12 to 15 years and life aswell, i so desperately want back on a bike im just lost on what bike to start back out on? The biggest mistake we see in our shop (where we do bike fits), is that people buy a bike, then book a bike fit. GET YOUR BIKE FIT BEFORE YOUR BIKE 😊
There is only so much you can do to help people when they have the wrong bike, and it can be expensive to change lots of parts. We use a lot of Ergon saddles and grips 👍

I struggled with saddle soreness well pain really for a good couple of yrs before after I stumbled on an add from SQ Lab on social media in Aus.
Upon contacting them then doing required tests in the questionnaire flier they sent out.
I purchased two sets of chamois & the appropriate saddle that was measured to me.
I noticed pretty much straight away that my pain was disappearing. To the point that after a few rides my ass was really enjoying what I was doing. That pain just upped n went.
    Game changer for me.
I also got bike fitted when I purchased my bike but not to the point what I saw in this article.
Does SQ Lab have a similar flier sent in the mail that hi lites it’s go to points 😎🇦🇺🤙

Saddles are very personal but the SQ labs 611 is the worst saddle I've ever ridden. Seems like a good concept, but I felt like I was constantly sliding forward off the saddle. If I tilted the saddle up enough to get rid of that the nose was so high to cause uncomfortable pressure. One ride on that saddle messed my lower back up for days.

Great for XC and Road, but doesn’t translate the same with Enduro style riding.
The problem with SQ Labs scientific data and perfect body position is that it works good for flat trails and road bikes, but there’s a lot more going on when it comes to Enduro and DH riding, which means your up off the saddle smashing downhill. This changes everything SQ works to perfect with perfect body position in the saddle.

I was pleased to come across a bikefit vid for MTBs but this one dissappoints. A good proportion of time was spent on the saddle but very little on the cockpit, and nothing about handlebar width. My understanding is that the ideal is for handlebar width to match shoulder width so that the arms aren't splayed. Now whilst that suits road riding it doesn't give the control needed for hard core MTB-ing. Where did +/- 740mm originate from which is on every new MTB? Luke says that width, height and backsweep are important, but then leaves it at, they're personal! Width and height affect reach, which inexstricably impacts on the pelvis, and therefore power, and cause back, neck, and hand pain. None of which is covered. Also, looks to me like your arms are locked out when seated. Hey, but I'm not the expert.

All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
