  • trinities.org/... In this episode theologian Dr. Randal Rauser interviews me for his CZcams channel (original video below), asking good and tough questions. He inquires about my theological views and how I came to them, and why I think Christians who accept the authority of the New Testament should re-examine their assumptions about traditional triune-God speculations. We discuss the true humanity of Jesus, his being called “God” in a few New Testament passages, common arguments that some Trinity theory is implied by Scripture, the pattern of worship we see in the New Testament, how becoming unitarian in my theology has impacted my own spiritual life, Jesus’ faith in God, the concept of heresy, saving faith, ongoing reformation, historical unitarian Christians, “mystery” defenses of problematic dogmas, the implosion of 19th c. American unitarianism, and a providential argument that some sort of Trinity theory must be true.

Excellent interview. Dale, I loved your responses, and I think you explained yourself clearly and represented the unitarian position well.

Can someone tell me whether tuggy believes Jesus ever sinned or did something requiring the atonement Jesus himself provided?

@DJ thanks! Where does he discuss whether Jesus sinned or not? A book, article, podcast (what number?)? Is tuggy comfortable saying that any human has the capacity for the righteousness Jesus had? I would also add that it seems more than coincidence that only one human has ever been perfect.

The gospel of John & Pauline letters are your biggest problem then. What are you going to do ignore these?

But, Dale, the imitation of God the Father is clearly and unequivocally taught by Christ himself. “Be perfect [merciful] as your Father in heaven”. As above, so below. Geza Vermes argues as much in his books. Also, Rabbinic Judaism has an idea of the imitation of God too.

I am anti-Trinitarian but not a Unitarian since they do not acknowledge Christ as God while I know Him as the one true God.
Christ in scripture is clearly unfolding the revelation of His divinity gradually and the mystery of the Incarnation cannot avoid the appearance of Christ and the Father being separate persons.

Why are we better off without monasticism? Christ and Paul appear to allow for celibacy, so why not monasticism?

No trinity exists. The concept of a TRIUNE GOD was UNKNOWN to Jesus! He crystal clear reiterated throughout four gospels to be ONLY IN THE COMPANY OF THE FATHER (who is a spirit), NEVER with two Persons! Thus, we are sure that NO THIRD DIVINE PERSON EXISTS. The trinity theory was formulated later to bring together the different currents of thought about Christianity that existed at the time. Its goal was to put peace and uniformity of thought in Christianity - good for the roman empire - NOT to respect the Truth. That theory was negotiated between the different parties until an agreement was reached. That is, the doctrine of the trinity is only a CONVENTIONAL (i.e. false) doctrine issued in a first form by the Nicaea CONVENTION. It was not understood that the "Spirit of God" is simply "the almighty God who is a spirit", i.e. no "helper-God" exists.
