- This video is a flight report onboard the iconic KLM Royal Dutch Airlines 747-400 Combi, that is now retired from their fleet. We will be flying from Amsterdam, NL (AMS) to Los Angeles, USA (LAX).
Coming from a trip to Belgium and Germany we decided to come back the night before our flight and spend the night at the airport. We placed our luggage in storage at Schiphol and proceeded to go to our hotel that is Airside... This meant we needed to do immigration and security...
and then we would need to do it again to get our baggage. Please don't do this, learn from us. If you need to stay airside make sure you have all your luggage with you!
We arrive to an empty, ghost zone Schiphol and briefly checked into our hotel. Well rested we were ready for our flight back home to Los Angeles.
Flying the Queen of the Skies is always a special occasion. I am extremely sad that KLM has accelerated their retirement due to the global pandemic.
The 747-406 COMBI named City of Shanghai was the chosen one to take us home.
The flight was exceptional, the crew was attentive and friendly. Of course the cabin shows signs of wear due to the age of the aircraft but that is not to overwhelm its beauty.
It will truly be missed.

Thank you for your feedback! For sure, I was able to fly the 747 with KLM one more time after this video. Its always a great experience. It's such a shame that their retirement was accelerated due to the pandemic. They have retired all their 747s. I was already planning on going on the final flight in 2022. :( I wanted to do it in business class as the last trip ahahah
KLM does have a beautiful livery. The interior of the plane looks like Asiana's 747 I flew last year, very much outdated. This is pretty cool to see a 747 combi video. Thanks for posting.

I have just watched your video of this flight in the reverse direction, and my same comments apply. A very good trip in the Queen of the Skies, and as I said about the other flight, it's hard to criticize Grandma just 'cause she's old. KLM seems to be offering a consistently solid product nowadays.

That is exactly what we did, it didn't cross our mind until it was too late to change the reservation hahaha. Next time just stay at the Sheraton right outside Schiphol.

The worse aircraft ever.....TOO noisy
To modern standards, it is a noisy aircraft. The 787 is too quiet! hahah
