    🔥 Campfire’s monetization tools are available to a limited number of authors who applied for early access. We’ll roll out open access across the world in 2024. In the meantime, anyone is welcome to apply for publication now, or prepare their story for publication on Campfire once monetization is more widely available. Learn more: www.campfirewriting.com/learn/how-monetization-works
    📱 Stay tuned for news about the mobile app for readers! Our team is working on an app that will allow anyone to read stories published on Campfire from their phones and tablets, coming early 2024.

    Feel like it's worth noting that the exclusivity may not exist from Campfire, but I imagine you still need to weigh publishing on Campfire with the exclusivity from other publishers who will still care if you've published on Campfire...
    And I think basically anyone can publish? (Once it's open access)... Just need to go through the review process probably and then you're good?

    • @campfirewriting
      @campfirewriting  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Yep, that's right! Once open applications are available, you'll just need to submit it from within the app, and pending review, it should go up shortly after.

      If anyone does videos on self publishing through campfire I would like to see videos. I have uploaded all chapters but that was beta reading before campfire had publishing offered.

    So it's like you can do any type of publishing on campfire and spread anywhere?

    • @campfirewriting
      @campfirewriting  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You can self-publish your work on CF, provided your story is approved (it's a quick and painless process, and if you're denied we'll tell you exactly why).
      We don't have any exclusivity deals either so-yes-you can publish with us and on anywhere else. Provided the other platforms also allow non-exclusive publishing. Not all of them do.

    what about publishing sequential art/storyboards/comics?

    • @campfirewriting

      Self-Publishing on Campfire is currently more focused on prose, but you can add images to your manuscript, and we have lots of tools outside of it to add images via image panels. You can see the latter on this tutorial: czcams.com/video/IeUb18qtkRI/video.html

      You can write on campfire in any language, but at the moment we only support English in the site/app's UI.

    (EDIT: Check replies. AI art goes against Campfire guidelines, so disregard what is mentioned.)
    One thing I'd suggest considering for covers (or at least images for available elements inside the story) is AI art... If you're able to do it well (easy/effective method probably being via Bing btw) probably a good option for people with not much visually artistic skills... You probably don't own the image using AI art (going to vary and be kinda a legal grey area, traditional publishers might not approve as a result but they can potentially use something different) but then again if you're just going to make stuff with Canva using freely available imagery that you also do not own then there's not much of a difference between that or AI... Again, assuming you are good at making AI art... It can be great for getting an image of a particular character since you can describe that character and then do hundreds of generated images till you find one that is pretty much as you imagine...
    I think AI art is perfect for something like this, assuming you're not able to do better with paying an actual artist who can save you time and follow your instructions and even offer feedback on your idea... Otherwise doing a mix would be another option... I think having lots of illustrations add so much to a book personally...
    The best thing though would be finding an artist who has a particular style that's catching, like John Tenniel who did the Alice in Wonderland illustrations is who I think of in particular... Those are very memorable... Also not using AI helps you keep the consistency of the character across many different images/angles, which is something they're working on but I haven't really figured that out...
    It works though for just doing one image per character in the story...

      AI art is not allowed on Campfire per our community guidelines. You can read those here: www.campfirewriting.com/learn/campfire-content-guidelines

      @@campfirewriting Was a bit confused at first about why that'd be the case, but then I realized that not everyone uses AI-generated images the same way... When it comes to writing I can understand not wanting AI writing given it's generally garbage due to mistakes it makes and plot devoid of meaning and so on... AI images though in my opinion should be fine BUT I can definitely see where it would lead to copyright concerns since while some AI images are grabbing from a ton of different things (which I would think would make it so no one should own it) I realized there's also people who would just use Sylvanas Windrunner from World of Warcraft or something very specific and copyright infringing like that (it's also popular to use something like the style of Van Gogh which is very questionable in copyright infringement I think)... And yeah, in retrospect it's probably simplest to ban AI generated content altogether... At least for something that's going to be sold...
      Plus also it's your guidelines so obviously you don't really need a reason, I was just pondering the rationale behind it...

      @@RealmRabbit Yeah, it's a complicated issue and the legality of it is still up for debate right now-to put it lightly. I appreciate your understanding + editing the initial comment to clarify for anyone reading this later!
