    I needed a way to organise my writing, plan out chapters, move things around and generally figure out all of the myriad of moving parts that make up my novel so far.
    Writing is a complicated hobby, it's never simple, but I've found Campfire genuinely helped me get past some writing barriers I've had for years.
    If you're currently writing or planning a novel, I would definitely recommend checking out Campfire!

    Thank you for this in depth look, Kieren! I looove that it's browser based and auto saves. That was my main hangup with purchasing Scrivener, which I've been considering. This basically convinced me to give Campfire a whirl! It has so many more features than my current online tool, Dabble, which is amazing for fast drafting but not so much for revising /worldbuilding imo.

      I’m with you on that, I love the seamlessness (is that a word?) of browser-based stuff ☺️ it’s just ready to go whenever you are.
      It’s definitely worth it in my opinion, I don’t think I could go back to a plain old google docs now!

    Hi Kieren, great video off the back of which I downloaded Campfire. Do you know if there is a way to plot sequences then scenes? Did you create a template within the "add event" on the timeline to be able to break it down further? I'd also love to know how you track character acr (potentially linking back to the plot) as well as relationship arcs whether in campfire or generally. Thx!

      Please do, I really like your videos of writers advice. I'm reading Chuck Palahniuk's "Consider This" now while working on a short sci-fi story. One of my secret weapons for storytelling is, "The Story Cure" by Dinty Moore. He's a prof at Ohio University for 20+ years and knocks it out of the ball park plus is easy to understand. Cool to hear from you man. Until next time, Adam Aimach.

    I read that you have to save your Scrivener work often or you can lose data. Forget that. I want something that is reliable. Thank you for this review. I am already on Campfire, but don't even know where to start, so I'm writing my book in Word and Excel. That's too hard, and in Excel if you undo several times in a workbook it can undo your work in other workbooks. It's because the undo is for all the workbooks in the file, not just the one you are working in. Quite a shock. This looks perfect. Thank you!

    • @KierenWestwoodWriting
      @KierenWestwoodWriting  Před rokem +3

      Ah, that might have been my issue with Scrivener then. Reliability was a top priority for me as well and Campfire hasn't given me any problems at all, been using it for a year now and written a very long novel in it! The thing I like most about it is that you can make it as simple as you want it to be, and all the compex stuff you don't need can just be hidden away.

    CampfireWriting looks interesting and helpful, but their "PRICING" page is a bit of a nightmare. The 17 separate costs per month is confusing, for example: the free version says 25,000 words per month but the monthly subscription specifies no word count. Perhaps a nice recap video of which modules you are using. I suppose I need to research things a bit more ... thank you for this video. ☮️

    • @KierenWestwoodWriting
      @KierenWestwoodWriting  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for watching! ☺️As far as I know, the free version is the only one with any limits. The other options are all just to decide on your payment methods I think, so it’s up to you which modules you use and whether your outright buy them or pay monthly or annually.
      For example if you get one module and pay monthly for it, you’ll be able to use it the same way someone who outright bought it for life would, just for the length of your subscription only.
      It is a little hard to sum-up but ultimately I think they’re focussed on writers being able to narrow down what they want to use and only pay for that ☺️

      @@KierenWestwoodWriting excellent. I'm in the process of transferring my Sci-Fi Epic saga The Parallax Odyssey into Campfire and already it's helping me get more clarity over the hundreds of different elements. I see true structure now where it was in pieces before.

    It was all sounding good and interesting until you mentioned that you can't export the entire manuscript in one go and you CAN'T PRINT??? Fundamental design flaws me thinks. It's an interesting project management tool and at the end of the day it is very much a case of "horses for courses" - so if it works for you great. But I would be concerned that you spend more time using the interface than actual writing. It is also at the opposite end of the spectrum of writers like George R Martin who just use the old DOS based Wordstar and nothing else, or even those who sit in a room with a pen and paper. But again, it is whatever works for you. Thanks for the review.
