  • 2017 BMW K1600B Bagger Review
    Having ridden the luxury super-tourer, BMW's K1600GT earlier in the year, I was very interested to see what this "baggerised" version was like when it was released by BMW, presumably aimed at the US market. Like it or loathe it, does it work as a vehicle in the UK and is it any good? Stay tuned to find out...
    Many thanks to Bahnstormer, the BMW dealer for Maidenhead and the surrounding areas, for the loan of the bike for this review. Check 'em out at www.bahnstormer.co.uk/

      Have to agree there, no bull sh*t withTMF's reviews, but I wonder, could he "fix it for me" to have a test ride on an R1200RT, without costing me money, as I plan to take my Advanced Test and become a Blood Biker here in Devon? As that's the main bike they use down this way. Just asking, no worries if not.

      Not a boring old git at all, don't sell yourself short mate. You offer real, practical, useful information that one actually NEEDS when they're considering buying a motorcycle. Nobody cares about intricacies of the gearbox or gear ratio or forged alloy pistons or auto blipper or suspension travel or the rest of the tedious information that most reviewers focus on these days that you can bloody Google! I mean, who in their right mind cares about the numbers when they're buying a motorcycle, I guarantee you that's the last thing on anyone's mind when they first walk into a dealership.
      How tall are you and can you flatfoot it, does it have protection if you drop it, can you handle the weight, how many useful rider aids does it have, stability, comfort, wind protection - these are all the information you want to know and you always provide these. Must say, if reviews like yours are considered "old & boring" these days, then I don't want to be a modern twat!

    So far I’ve Am Really Enjoying my K1600 GA I’ve been on one big toure and many small tours and rides so far. And she is a really capable bike and in the passes / Mountains she for a big and hevey bike handles like a VFR or similar bike even two up no massive difference. The power delivery is amazing I haven’t been in the top end of the Rev range. And so smooth. The storage is very good for two and the entertainment for big transit / Motorways days is awesome I’ve riden 11hrs got of her at the end of the day and still could ride more. Also the service I have had from North Oxford BMW has been amazing as expected.

    Duolever front end on the K1600, was also introduced on the K1200s in 2004 and carried over to the K1300 and K1600. Telelever front end was introduced on oilhead boxers in 94 and is still on the GS and RT but not all the twins, BM do now offer some bikes with standard telescopic forks. The duolever bikes are fantastically stable on the brakes. If it looks like tele forks but theres a shock hidden up there it's Telelever - if it looks more like old girder forks it's Duolever.

    Thanks for the review. The windscreen is actually one of the things I really like. Being 6'2", it actually provides smooth air from my shoulders up, and really wonderful for summer driving. I bought the Bagger screen for my K1600GT, and use it as a summer screen. Prefer the GT for travel, and not into the bagger styling. K1600 engine in either form is wonderful for long distance. Boston to Salt Lake City this summer for the BMW Convention. Mt GT does not have the up/down shift, and it could really use it, the 18's come with that now. One thing you cannot do with the Bagger is add the TOP CASE, which on the K1600GT allows you to ride without the side cases, and still carry some necessities....

Can not wait to get it tomorrow. I fell in love as soon as I saw it and I did love the GTL. What a F....N machine. God damn. It is a rocket ship and it is ok by me that it is limited to 105 mph. I would never come even close to that on NJ roads, sadly!!!! Riding the B, you can almost fall asleep cruising at 80. I am not joking !!!!!. It is unreal. Honda, start creating some nasty machines. Boring, is still boring.

    Good to see BMW have learnt how to make side/prop stands now. I have an older (1990) Aircooled boxer whose sidestand goes forward & underneath the left cylinder, impossible to use safely whilst sitting on the bike, have to get off first. Of course most airhead owners modify that ! Re air pressure from the screen, it is essentially a venturi effect (you know like how old carbs work) that creates a high pressure above you and a low pressure behind the screen. As a pilot you will know how a plane wing works to create lift, it the same effect giving lift to your helmet/back. Thanks for another interesting video, but I'm not saving up for one of those beasties.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  Před 6 lety

      Yes that's exactly the effect in practice.....although I think technically it might be the Bernoulli effect rather than the venturi effect but let's not split hairs!

    Last week I traded in my K1600GT for a GS Rallye (after being sold by your review of the GS!). My GT didn't have the reverse gear. I've watched your "gravel driveway test" on some of your reviews... and you'd find that quite the challenge with either 1600. I had mine for 4 years and toured in Canada and the US... where it really shone. However, closer to home, Iincreasingly found myself leaving the big BMW in the garage and riding a smaller bike. I'm hoping that the GS will still work for touring but also offer some fun on unpaved roads we frequently come across in Ontario... as well as as being easier to move around... not that I ever actually dropped the K1600!

    I recently ride the GT, and overall I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I thought the front end was extremely heavy, I hoping the B version has a different sort of feel, perhaps improved by the different riding position. The engine is magic, you can really ride it in 6th for most of the ride.

    Great Job, mate. As overviews go, you have really nailed it. I looked very seriously at this bike to replace my Victory Vision, a bike that I dearly love. But this new bagger, as nice as it is didn't quite have what it took for me to pull the trigger. Don't get me wrong, it's a great machine and superior to the Vision in many ways. The power train is the biggest strength in my view. That said, I still love the rumble and character of my big V. I am also disappointed that they didn't adhere to the Concept 101's design. The bike lost too much in translation when it went production. It looks too much like a GT for my taste. And of course, the ridiculous purchase price and cost of ownership was a huge turn-off.
    Also, this bike isn't nearly as comfortable as my Vision, nor will it be as reliable. So I passed on it, kept the Vision and bought a Triumph Trophy SE instead, a fabulous machine that you also did a very well-rounded review on. So thanks for that! I have come to value your observations and attention to detail when you do these things, and it helped me quite a bit.
    Make no mistake, the K1600B is an extremely nice bike and I am sure BMW will sell a ton of them. It just wasn't for me.

    Don't know if there is different ECU mapping for the Euro bikes, but in the States there is an noticable throttle lag when coming off idle during take off. • @bugsbacon3025
    @bugsbacon3025 Před 2 měsíci

    ❤ the review . Have gone back to watch this knowing you have ridden the GT version. So would you prefer the bagger over the GT? Is the weight lower down than the gt version where you say it feels top heavy.
    Also if you push the winglets out to get air flow in towards the chest does this not counter the suction over the scream at speed?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  Před 2 měsíci

      To be honest, even though the bagger looks lower, the engine still sits relatively high in the frame and so the bike still fill top heavy. I didn’t notice the winglets that’s making any difference.

    I rode this bike last week. I loved the agility, six cylinder, and the option of putting up my feet on the floorboards. I will say it does not have the low ed torque that a Harley offers but I am also comparing to it my Low Rider S which is not the same segment of vehicle. My biggest gripe is that I cannot pair my phone to the bike and listen to the music through the speakers. I have to wear a helmet.
    This is where I get angry....both saddlebags were filled with water after the bike was sitting in the rain for a couple of days. I could not store my hat, wallet and phone. I had to find a plastic bag. And another thing, roughly 400+ miles on a brand new bike, the left heated hand grip was inoperable.

I'm not saying to replicate a V twin sound but give it something besides a whine BMW. I've found that lot of big bikes handle really well at lower speeds. It's trying to keep all that mass stuck to the road in corners at high speed that can become engaging. Fortunately, most will do just fine at anything near legal speeds.
    Would like this one more if they added a little color contrast. This all black business doesn't really rev my engine.

I'm 5'11" and took one out on test last week and it was awful and my head was getting blasted unbearably. the radio was inaudible at motorway speeds...which is exactly where you want it on a long trip. When I complained to the dealer he agreed and said that has been the biggest complaint from customers and suggested either the BMW taller screen @£300 or Puig screen at £107 should cure the problem.
