  • With any older Roadtrek you may find that your swivel seats for the driver and passenger may have a wiggle to them. Here in this video I will show you how to repair a loose swivel that causes the seat to wobble. It only takes about 35 minutes and makes your seats more comfortable, safe, and functional. A must for any van lifer. I hope that this video helps you in your Roadtrek repair journey. Leave a like and a comment or question. Thanks so much, I appreciate you!

    So how has this repair held up? I had a castle nut and cotter pin in my 1999 Roadtrek to keep the center nut on the pivot bolt in position...I would expect the nut to loosen without something keeping it in place....perhaps your nut was a lock nut? Further, I did not have the spacer you showed. But my wobble problem was related to the threads on the bolt and nut having worn over time. So my fix was to replace both the center pivot bolt and nut; a process complicated by the fact that the head of the bolt was welded into the base and there was minimal to no access to cut away the weld and remove it. Thus required using the angle grinder to cut a window in the underside of the base, then cut the weld, then replace with a new bolt. Rather than a castle nut, I made the bolt long enough to accept two nuts that when tightened against each other locked them in place. Thanks for your video.

    nice video. my seat won't lock into position, it continues to rotate. I looked an saw the levers spring appeared detached from level. could this spring cause the seat to not lock into postion? I liked the grease sandwhich bit also where the nuts where left very funny.

      Hi Steve, if you go back to the video and pause it at exactly the two minute mark you will see the underside of the seat with the locking mechanism. Yes you must have that spring there to apply the compression to hold the lever in the notch to lock it into position. A pair of needle nose pliers will make reattaching the spring much easier. Good luck!

      @@steveleston1848 Your best bet may be to take the spring to an auto parts store (auto zone or Napa) and see what the closest sized spring they they have to replace it with. Good luck:)

      Hi Raymond, yes I think the wiggle is caused by the same wearing of that bottom plate. I hope my video helps you in your repairs. Thank you

    do you think it would be possible to turn that 3rd seat into a swivel. Is there enough room to install a little better captain seat in that spot, that swivels. Like the pleasure way rs-4? I want a road trek 4 seat but want to make the 2 extra seats swivel and be more comfortable.

    • @Davesgreatideas
      @Davesgreatideas  Před rokem +2

      Hi Autumn, anything is possible. The key here is safety. To have a legal third and/or fourth seat in this model of van you will need to have a base mounted to the swivel, the. Have it bolted directly to the frame. You could then put any swivel certified mounted product into place. Whatever you do be sure to have it inspected and signed off on by a certified mechanic to ensure that your insurance stays valid. Thanks for the question and good luck :-)

      @@Davesgreatideas Dodge vans are unibody and don't really have frames like chevy and ford vans do, their being body on frame.

      It would be difficult as the entire top of the seat is lifted and taken out in order to access the storage. If you screwed it all solid, gave it a sturdy top, you would then have to either offset the square seat or put a round seat in the centre so that you could rotate it. In my opinion, not really worth it as the backseat is super plush and you can sit comfortably in any direction.👍
