When Joe Elliott explains about Gods of War being played backwards in Rocket, Collen says

Finally, somebody did this song. One of my favorite songs of all time. What blew me away is that Allen was able to come with this beat after losing his arm. He had his accident and lost his arm. When Hysteria came out we were more concerned about the sound. Would Allen be able to keep up with just one arm. Rocket was track number 2 and it erased all doubt!!!
I am impressed that you realized the beginning was reversed. And yes, it does say "We are fighting with the Gods of War", which is in track 6 or 7 of this album. Song titled "Gods of War." Also realize that the drummer only has one arm. Lost left arm in car accident after the previous album, and the rest of the band let him decided if he wanted to quit. He didn't and the waited two years for him to relearn how to play the drums with one arm, and his feet.
This album is a true masterpiece. I love that you are not doing “sugar”. Love the reaction. If you like Rocket... listen to Gods of War on the same album.

I'm old enough to remember when this song was originally released and I remember waiting for MTV to show the video. This song is perhaps my favorite of theirs. It's epic! The Hysteria album is my favorite of all time!
Any song off the Hysteria album is worth listening to.. they’re all great!! My favorite album of all time. I was in the Army and wore out cassette after cassette of this album. It also kept me company and pepped up during Desert Storm!
Mine as well. One of the only albums great start to finish IMO.
This song is a tribute to all the 70s rock bands that inspired them.. with shout outs to bands like Mott the Hoopple, Sweet, Elton John, Bowie and Queen. At the time this was the most cutting edge album out there because this was one of the first digitally mixed albums. It took 4 or 5 years to make.. partially because their drummer lost his arm in a car accident and had to relearn how to drum on a modified kit that allowed him to use his feet to make up for the missing arm.

I’m glad you enjoyed your first dip into Def Leppard. They have a deep catalogue of similarly great songs. Armageddon and Photograph are two of my favorites, but you will pretty much enjoy anything you choose from them. Their biggest hit is pour some sugar on me which you’ve heard if you have ever been to a grocery store or out in public in general. Can you believe that their drummer Rick Allen plays this well with 1 arm? Truly inspirational.

I believe that the backwards phrase in the intro and in the solo is "We're fighting with the gods of war".

I saw their concert a few years back and this was the first song. I have never screamed and sang so much in my life. Such an amazing concert. Best fucking band ever! This is one of my favorite songs ever!

We used to chant/sing the chorus back in junior high when our star pitcher was on the mound. Worked pretty well at psyching out the opposition.

React to Rock of ages live 1988! Drummer lost his arm in 83.. came back after 4 years.. reinvented the way he played drums.. they released hysteria and he tours with the band to this day!

The drummer Tony Kenning rocked the drums through this whole album single handedly, but then again, it was because he only had one arm. He'd lost his arm in an accident just before they recorded it. Proof that the only limitations a person has are only in a person's mind. If you have a will to do something, you'll make it happen dispite your limitations.

@Mike Adams Tony Kenning was the drummer for the Def Leppard EP 1979 and parts of On Through the Night. He quit, the band placed an ad leopard looking for skins, enter Rick Allen. The rest is challenging; but, awesome history.
I stand corrected. I knew who I was talking about I just had the name wrong. Not the first time I've messed up. Lol
Good job, I was fortunate to see them 2 times, once before the drummer Rick Allen had his accident and his left arm was amputated, then when he came back and played with one arm. He is a true bad ass.
