Def Leppard actually was influenced by a lot of Glam Rock bands of England during the 1970s. Phil Collen, the short-haired blonde co-lead guitarist, was in a glam band called "Girl" when the Leps recruited him to join their band.
This track was from 1987 Hysteria LP and music video filmed in early 89. Steve Clark would make his final filmed performance later that year at MTV video awards show when they performed Tear it Down, a very popular B side track from Hysteria LP. The track, Rocket , is a tribute to all the bands and influences they grew up with as kids. Love the reactions to this band as is my favorite all time band. If you want to check them out today, react to Let's Get Rocked live at O2 arena London to Vegas 2018. Great live performance with catchy hook, rocking music and those great Leppard harmonies to this day. Great job and keep it going!!
Incorrect... although the Hysteria album dropped in 1987 (August 3rd to be exact)... the 'Rocket' single and video wasn't released until 1989... the LAST ever video featuring Steve Clark during his lifetime.
@@jackdixon29jd The album came out as you stated 8/3/1987,you are correct, the video was in 1989,thanks for correction. They put out 'Women' as the first video and single off Hysteria, which was a huge mistake,if I remember correctly,it took a while after 'Women' was made for the album to take off.
Def Leppard guys are now in their 60's and still rocking the world. They are one of the best live bands out there and they never disappoint their audiences. Rocket is still one of the songs they feature on their play list. They also still put out new music. Take What You Want (a song from their latest original album Diamond Star Halos) is the opener to their show. Def Leppard's catalogue is very deep but you cannot go wrong with anything from their first four albums. Die Hard the Hunter or Billy's Got A Gun are two heavy rocking songs from their Pyromania album.
They were paying tribute to all the 70’s glam bands that influenced them, T.Rex, Sweet ,David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days,Queen,Elton John( his sound wasn’t glam but his clothes were). My favorites are Sweet, T.Rex and Slade
This song is a tip of the hat to some of the favorite bands that inspired the band, the glam rock bands of the 60s and 70s, came out in 1989 and was one of 7 top 10 hits off the Hysteria album. Def Leppard has been my favorite bands since high school in the early 90s. They have been lumped into the category of a hair metal band (for obvious reasons) but they have said they prefer to be considered a pop band like many of the bands they paid tribute to in this song.
Trying to sum up a few decades in a song is extremely difficult and only a handful of bands have been successful at it. This is one of those songs. My favorite is photograph which was the first song I heard them play live in Stuttgart Germany. Great job guys 👍✌️brings back some awesome memories
About guitarist Steve Clark, apparently his own father kept dealing him the lesser hand, all Steve ever wanted was to impress his father, and his father kept poo-pooing his own son and his choice of being a rock and roll guitarist as a career path, so Steve kept drinking alcohol as a coping mechanism...it finally caught up with him. Sad tale considering how fun and upbeat their music is, but they never forgot Steve Clark and his massive contribution to the band and the fans...don't be a jerk to those you love, even if expressing that love is difficult, is the lesson there.
It was 1987, I was 13 years old, Hysteria was the first album I bought (Vinyl) with pocket money after hearing 'Pour Some Sugar' on the stereo. I recognized the sound quality was on another level from most other music of the time. Family life wasnt great so I would escape into this album with eyes closed, headphones on.
My friend and I bought our cassettes the day it came out in the summer of 87 and it blew us away how good it was. It was interesting because the album didn’t really become big until the 3rd single Poor some Sugar on Me came out. People are like have you heard the new Def Leppard album? I’m like the one that came out 3 months ago no the new one I’m like yeah that’s been out for a while… and I wore it out.
They had lighting in a bottle and they knew it, a cool quote from vocalist Joe Elliott during the composing and recording sessions for this album, the band were getting mired in overthinking about how to write a smash album, how to write good songs the fans could sing along with live, he said to them [I'm paraphrasing here] "We're just a freaking Rock and Roll band, guys, we're not Jazz, just write Rock and Roll music"
Seeing as Def Leppard are British, all the bands mentioned are British artists they love. Elton John, Queen, David Bowie, Sweet, The Beatles, Gary Glitter, Slade, Mott the Hoople. They all get a mention or are shown in the video
This song, Women, Animal, Hysteria, Love Bites, Pour Some Sugar On Me and Armageddon It were all released as singles with videos from their 1987 album Hysteria, their 4th album.
Steve Clark had an alcohol addiction that he could never overcome. The rest of the band did everything they could to help him, to no avail. He literally drank himself to death. So sad. The world lost a great talent. We miss him.
steve clark was an alcoholic. He died from alcohol poisoning. pete willis was the guitarist they replaced him with phil collin. this is my favorite def leppard song
I can still see my 6'5 goofy friend dancing and singing and jumpin on the couch and falling on his face. The days we used to laugh till we cried. P.S. - he was a terrible singer, which made it hysterical.
This shortened version doesn't do the original track from the Hysteria album any justice. Try to find THAT version...it's over 7 minutes long. Give "Run Riot" a listen, also.

The lyrics and visuals matched up pretty well and I see this as an homage to the Glam Rock of the 70s.
Video came out in 1987.Steve Clark was in this video,he passed in 1991.

Family narcissism has been the cause of a big proportion of suicides.
Wohooo! They Rock! Just saw them at the Cardinal's Stadium with Motley Crue, Joann Jet, Poison last August. They were the headliners. Love them! =)
I saw this live. It sounded just like you heard it here. But with extra stuff so you knew they were playing live. The whole concert was unforgettable.
I has 2 cassette tapes of this album in the 80’s & played them so much driving the tape broke on both 😂🎶
The album came out in 1987 and Steve Clark was still alive, as you seen him in this video.

The song references the band's Glam rock influences from childhood back in the 70s. T-Rex, Bowie, Sweet, Queen etc..
Foolin...must listen and classic video too
This was my first concert ..... still amazing 🤟🤟🤟🤟
React to Rock of Ages

Good Job Guys.
PLEASE listen to Run Riot, amazing song 👍🏻
Right before the hysteria album, the drummer lost his arm in an accident
Gods Of War Check it out Steves in this clip he passed 91 or 92 just before Adrenalize
I believe this video was the last music video released from the Hysteria album. If I'm not mistaken, the video was recorded in 1987
And you cant do Def Leppard w/o Hysteria. Still one of my top 5. I know exactly where I was the first time I heard this one too.
The early 80s
React to Def Leppard's "Hysteria" and "Heaven Is."
You guys missed the party! The 80's was tha shit!!
Steve Clark was still alive and is definitely in this video.
Check out some songs fro, Adrenalized....I call it Hysteria 2.0..... Let's Get Rocked OR Make Love Like a Man OR Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)

Steve Clark IS with the band here.....this would be his last album tour with the band sadly
I can still see my 6'5 goofy friend dancing and singing and jumpin on the couch and falling on his face. The days we used to laugh till we cried. P.S. - he was a terrible singer, which made it hysterical.
Clark is there
Steve is there

You have to do a reaction to "Women" by Def Leppard and Billy's got a gun"and Bringing on the Heartbreak...
Steve Clark is there
Dudes. Dont cut the end of the songs off.
Steve Clark died of alcohol poisoning.
Oh yeah, all the bands and the people they were dropping down were infliences, if you will, to them.
Can you guys do recent videos
