'THEY USED SOME INTERESTING TECHNIQUES IN THE STUDIO'.
This is a monumental understatement. At the time 'Hysteria ' was the most technologically advanced and expensive record ever made. At least, in the UK it was. To the point where Def Leppard had to sell five million copies just to break even on the production costs.
Their genius producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange would sometimes record them playing literally one note at a time on the guitar, and he would create a chord from those single notes to give a passage more clarity. The band called this 'The Dentist's Chair'.
And even after the years they spent recording Mutt still took four and-a-half months to mix the album.
This is why 'Hysteria' is still technically flawless to this day.
